  1. Good tip! Our ceremony is at 11 a.m., and the reception isn't until 6:30, so I think my FI plans to change shirts for the reception, but I like the idea of having a "back up" shirt in case shirt #1 gets really sweaty before we finish pictures.
  2. My bridesmaids are paying for their dresses; however, they are quite reasonable at only $80 each. I plan on paying for the girls' hair and makeup at the resort. If we had chosen more expensive dresses, I probably would've picked up the tab, because I wouldn't feel right asking them to pay a lot for a dress they may only wear once, especially considering the money they're paying to travel to the DW...
  3. Has anyone considered making donations to a charity in your guests' names instead of a wedding favours or OOT bags?
  4. Welcome to a fellow OGX bride -- my wedding date is February 16, 2010. Best of luck with the planning!
  5. Thanks for the post on your wedding at OGX, Heart 0476. I'm getting married there in February and plan to do the same as you did -- semi-private reception and renting out the disco afterwards. Glad to know you and your guests had a blast! You mentioned the ceremony site was gorgeous -- was that the wedding gazebo? My FI was a bit disappointed when he learned the ceremony would be in a gazebo versus on the beach, but I think the gazebo looks beautiful. Did you guys do pictures in the sand at all?
  6. DMB 1980, sorry to hear your family is having difficulty understanding your decision to have a DW. Everyone has their own idea of what a wedding "should" look like, but bottom line, it's YOUR wedding. I had some mixed feelings at first about our decision to do a DW, but it made the most sense for us and was the most appealing, and now I'm more excited than ever! Luckily, our families have been very supportive. In the end, you have to have the special day that you and your future husband want, not what you think others want. Best of luck, and stay strong!
  7. I need some advice! I'm booked in at the OGX for our February 2010 wedding. Right now, I'm struggling with bridesmaids' attire. I wanted to do things pretty casual, and at first told my bridesmaids they could wear whatever dress they wanted, just "think beachy". However, my bridesmaids now would like to match somewhat (they think this would look better in the pictures, which I tend to agree with). My dilemma is that I have two bridesmaids in Canada, and one living in the U.S., so it is difficult to find designers and/or brands that are available in both countries. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!
  8. Could anyone here comment on how or if they were able to ensure their guests got rooms near each other at the resort? We booked a group travel package through a TA, but we also have others making their own travel arrangements... Thanks!
  9. I have finally reserved a wedding date at the OGX for February 2010 and we just put down the deposit for our travel package...so excited!
  10. Thanks so much for your help, sspiris! I suppose that makes sense about the paperwork/legal costs, but once I add in extras to customize our wedding, I'm not sure how much cheaper it will actually be. The OGX looks like a very nice resort. We're still trying to make a decision. We of course had to pick the time of year that is "reading week" for students here in Canada, so that means higher prices and more demand for rooms!
  11. I am considering the OGX for our wedding, but I do have a few questions, for those of you that have been married there or are planning a wedding there... If you are planning a symbolic ceremony versus a legal ceremony, can you opt one of the wedding packages other than renewal of vows, or do you have to get the renewal of vows package? I've seen/heard from browsing this thread that the beach at the resort is smallish -- is there any room on the beach for guests to actually lay out, or do you have to stick by the pools? Is it worth it to upgrade the room (Jr. Suite)? Thanks in advance...
  12. Hi, my name is Tesia and my fiance and I got engaged in February in Australia. We are looking at a destination wedding, likely on the Riviera Maya in Mexico. I haven't nailed down a resort yet, so any suggestions would be helpful. Our tentative wedding date is February 13, 2010.
