  1. We're still in the beginning stages of planning but I think we'll stay for a week at the Royal, a few days before and a few days after the wedding. After that we plan to take another week as a honeymoon. We're thinking about heading down to Belize if we can work out a reasonable method of transportation.
  2. Wow! Sounds like you've gotten a really great start on the planning. Welcome to the forum and can't wait to hear about that awesome proposal!!!
  3. These are so awesome! We had friends who sent out invites like this a few years ago and we thought it was the coolest thing ever. You're guests are going to flip!
  4. Lady Di, I'm pretty sure that I read in a post from a bride during the Swine flu madness that the resort was flexible with her changing guest count until a day or two before the wedding! When is the final balance paid? It seems like it would be after arriving in Mexico since so much of the final planning happens in the meeting with the WC.
  5. Congrats on your Key West wedding. I grew up in Florida and it's always been a favorite destination for me! My wedding date is May 2011 also...plenty of time to plan and plenty to read on this great forum. Have fun!!
  6. Thanks Jescam, That does help. I'm guessing that we'll have close to 70guests so the pp charge becomes pretty important! Based on what you said, I guess I can plan for $40 pp above the 35 (including the cocktail hour and reception). Steph and Jescam... From the email that the WC sent me, you guys should def be locked in at $3100...but I would get it in writing and bring it with me to Mexico just in case! I can't wait to start planning the FUN stuff!!!
  7. Jescam and SuperKate, We did get written confirmation, from someone names Suzanne, that we could lock in at the 2010 rate. BUT, have any of you guys noticed that they increased the prices of the Luxury Package for both 2009 and 2010? They are both $600 more expensive now, the 2010 rate being $3700. Those of you that already booked are fine but it seems like a very strange business practice to increase fees for a year that's practically over! And yeah, I think the general consensus is the Doreen is bit, um...'speciial'. One more question...I can't seem to get a straight answer from the WC's about fees for guests over 35. Is it just the fee of $30pp on the website or is there a separate fee for cocktail hour and reception? I can tell you girls are going to be TOTAL lifesavers in this process!!!!!!
  8. Welcome to the forum! You'll find lots of great information here. A Vegas wedding sounds so fun!!!
  9. Hi MaryJane, Congrats on planning your DW!! I think that a lot of brides plan their wedding without a travel agent, it just depends on how you feel about all of your guests contacting you with questions/problems about travel plans. If you're good with organizing this sort of thing and have the time, you could def do it on your own. I'm using a TA that I found through the forum...just because I wanted the planning process to be as stress-free as possible!
  10. Hi ladies...quick question: For those of you that booked over a year in advance, were you able to lock-in the rates at the time you booked? I ask because FI got verbal confirmation s via voicemail a few days ago for our date from someone who was covering for Doreen while she was out of the office. This woman said that they would honor 2010 rates for our May 2011 wedding since 2011 rates aren't available yet. We asked for written confirmation but didn't receive anything. Fast forward to today...I get an email from my TA who called Doreen...Doreen now says that we'll have to pay 2011 rates even though they aren't out yet. This seems absurd to me...I mean seriously, who signs a contract without the numbers on it?? Did anyone encounter this or have suggestions on how to approach the situation? I definitely plan to push back, I'm just not sure if it would be better to let my TA do the negotiating or if I should call and do it myself. Thanks for the help!
  11. Oooohh! Fire dancers sound awesome, and 30min is a pretty long performance! It's definitely going to be hard to chose which 'extras' we want for the beach reception...fire dancers vs lounge furniture etc... Are any of you planning to extend your reception for longer than the included 3hrs?
  12. So...I received confirmation today that we're booked for May 8, 2011 (and apparently I'm a bit of an over-planner as they told us that we're the very first wedding to book for May 2011). Even though we're still very far out, do you all think that I should try to contact an actual WC at the Royal just to introduce myself? I remember reading that sometimes Doreen doesn't communicate well with the WC's and that it has resulted in double booking, etc. VERY excited to officially have the date!!!!
  13. This is a great thread! I just started working on ours through weddingwindow.com and you all have given me a ton of great ideas. Thanks...I'll be sure to post my finished product!!
  14. LOVE the postcards...so many unique details, from the stamps to the cruise ship to the 'Save the Week'. I bet your guests love them...I'll def have to check Ginger out on Etsy!
  15. Thanks! I think it's a great idea to do the site visit at the same time of year that you'll be having your wedding. We're planning to do the same thing this May (still waiting on confirmation for our date in May, 2011). PLUS, what a terrific excuse for a little vaca?!? I'll be sure to let you know what questions pop into my head!
  16. They look terrific...very professional looking with a very cool monogram too. Good job!
  17. Hi ladies, I've been checking this thread for a while and today I finally sent in my deposit and date request to the Royal. We're hoping for May 8, 2011. I can't wait to participate in the discussions over the next year and a half or so...everyone has already been so helpful! Becky
