  1. You could look at any of the villas in Soliman Bay on Loco Gringo. My favorites Casa Corazon and Nah Uxibal. Here is Nah Uxibal's website. Nah Uxibal in Solimon Bay along the Mayan Riviera It's main house is two stories, the bottom story is an open air living room. The upper story has two bedrooms, pool table and telescope. Drop me a line if you want to chat. I can walk you through the area from Maroma to Punta Allen.
  2. What is your budget and privacy preference? Do you want all the cabanas on the beach?
  3. Welcome - it all depends on what you are envisioning for your wedding. White sand beach? Rainforest? Lake? Vineyard? What do you like doing? Snorkel? Scuba? Climb? Colorful parties?
  4. Yes, that section you can stand in. I had discounted that side of the cenote because it's not very tall or deep. You can hunch down and walk through the tunnel in about 10 steps. It's also not very pretty. You don't have any stalactites or greenery. The section of Gran Cenote that is available to non-divers is shaped like a C and about 35 meters wide and 10 meters wide. 4/5 of the cenote is deep enough that you need to swim and is only light enough to see about 10 meters in. The other part is the tunnel your picture was taken in. You walk through the tunnel to a dry hole. Add 75 tourists and you might have a difficult time taking pictures.
  5. I just had my cenote photos shot at Hidden worlds. Dreamtime Images Blog Archive Tulum, Mexico Wedding Photography: Malisa and Todd We looked at Gran Cenote but it was very very crowded, and the caves were not shallow enough to stand in. Labna Ha is also very pretty but they charge a tripod fee (we didn't use one). When I thought we were going to use one they originally asked for $500. I talked them down to $150 including admission and snorkeling. Hidden worlds was $10/person and I'm pretty sure they shut the cenote down for us.
  6. We decided against a legal ceremony. Someone warned me that if you were legally married in Mexico, god forbid you should get a divorce, your husband could take you to court in Mexico and divorce you in Mexico as well. I don't know whether there is any truth behind it, but it sure made the legal requirements for a Mexico wedding less appealing. We had a beautiful mayan ceremony performed by a local shaman. We then had our friend become a legal officiant in the US. At the point in the ceremony where we exchanged vows, our friend took over, gave a nice introduction, we said our vows and then he pronounced us man and wife. It was a lovely ceremony and he signed all of our paperwork to legally marry us.
  7. Most of guests arrived around 4 PM in the Cancun airport, after renting a car they left the airport between 5-6 PM. I had them spend the night in Playa and then finish the drive in the morning. The other alternative if you have 6-8 people arriving at close to the same time is to hire a private shuttle. No one will mind the drive when they are all together.
  8. We had a mayan ceremony and then made our friend a legal officiant. He signed our certificate that we sent in to the state for legality. I had considered getting married legally in Mexico but someone mentioned that if you got married in Mexico, they can divorce you in Mexico as well. I didn't do the research to follow up on that, but it scared me enough to not play with it.
  9. Hi girls, I was just married in Tulum, so I don't qualify for the 2010 thread, but I was exactly where all of you were a year ago. I've made three trips down to the Cancun/Tulum area in the last year and have visited almost every resort and boutique hotel between Maroma and Tulum. I ended up in Tulum, away from the resorts. All of my guests were well traveled outdoorsmen and would have been disappointed if I would have sent them to a resort that could have been duplicated in San Diego or Vegas. We were the only ones on the beach for our ceremony and had the reception in a mansion built by the infamous drug loard, Pablo Escobar. It was a truly intimate and authentic experience. Drop me a line if you want to run your ideas past me. Here are pics from my wedding. Dreamtime Images Blog Archive Tulum, Mexico Wedding Photography: Malisa and Todd
  10. Congratulations, and thank you. We had the ceremony about 1/2 KM inside Sian Ka'an. The beach in Mexico is public property and you do not need approval to have a ceremony on the beach as long as you do not need access to the beach. We had several people staying at Hamaca Loca, Mil Amores and Casa Blanca so we just walked to the site in the morning. We had the reception at Mil Amores, which was also my favorite place to stay. I had just found them in January, when it was too late to change everyone's reservations. They were super nice, reasonably priced, and the venue is absolutely dreamy. The pictures in the cave was taken in Hidden Worlds. I have to be honest, there are cenotes EVERYWHERE and if we had more time we might have found something closer or less touristized. This one was easy. We had taken the group to Hidden Worlds and paid for their full package (skycycle, ziplines, snorkeling - I wouldn't do the skycycle again, but the rest was fun). The photographer thought it was a great site so we went back the next day just as they opened. The manager lent us his car and they gave us full run of the cenote for 3 hours.
  11. Hello, I just wanted to say hello. I was just married in Tulum, Mexico. We had a wonderful, beautiful time. Tulum is an absolutely gorgeous beach town that is just starting to grow. There is so much to do, our guests were actually too busy. They could visit the breathtaking cliffside ruins, zipline into cenotes, scuba dive, snorkel in Soliman Bay, kayak through the rainforest preserve.....too much to do! I didn't have much of a chance to post while I was planning. There is so little information out there regarding Tulum and I had great difficulty avoiding a "package" wedding. Now that I am done, I thought I would spend some time posting everything that I learned. My photographer was amazing. We won't have the full set of pictures, but this is what he came up with in a few hours. I can't wait to see the rest. Dreamtime Images Blog Archive Tulum, Mexico Wedding Photography: Malisa and Todd I will certainly post a full wedding report - but if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to send me a message.
