Also from BC and planning a wedding in Dec. 09. We too are finding the rates a little steep (~$2300 for The Royal PDC!) so we are still looking for a resort with more affordable rates. Quick question, if we and our guests decide to book now and then the rates go down in the next few months, can we avail of those lower rates or are we "stuck" with our original rates?

donation to charity instead of gifts?
bcbride replied to bcbride's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Hi there! Ya I just found out about this option at a recent bridal fair... we are thinking of doing a tribute to FI's grandma at the same time, who recently passed away from cancer, by choosing the Cancer Society as one of our charities. I thought it would give guests the option, but not feel forced at the same time. Yay, glad to have helped! Good luck with the rest of the planning! -
whereabouts in BC are you from? I am from Vancouver Island, and am considering Ocean Turquesa as it is one of the resorts that have more reasonable rates, everything just seem so much more expensive flying out of the west coast/Vancouver and I really like the look of the resort, so hopefully everything will work out!

Do you know of anyone who had or are having their guests donate to charities instead of buying wedding presents? This is something we are considering because we feel they are already giving us their gift by attending our DW. And I don't want it to seem that we are still expecting presents by creating a gift registry, so I thought maybe registering with charities that are important to us would give the guests the option of donating. What do you ladies/guys think?

It's definately cheaper to book flight and hotel at the same time, rather than separately. I don't know though, if I would fly out of Seattle again. The worst was coming back home, it sucks to drive 3 hours back home, after the flight, especially since everyone was so tired. Hi there, what did you think of the beach at GPR? We really want a beach wedding and was considering The Royal but it was a little pricey... (over $2200 per person, for 1 week out of Vancouver in Dec. 09). The GPR would also be a great resort, I just love the location! Any info. about the beach/water would be great, and if you have any pics as well! Thanks!

They charge 450 for a minister or judge is a little more including transportation. I have decided to get the free package and make my own kinda thing..The free package covers the basics, a la carte restaurant is $20 pp, flowers are 150 maybe for bride and maids, my minister is 350 then 70 for day pass to resort. soo for 20 people..I am spending 970 approx for what I want. The package was 2000 that would of covered what I wanted plus a bunch of things I didn't need. Do all your homework before choosing..with all the help on this site...it makes it easy! Thanks for the info! I agree with you that their "free" wedding package doesn't come with much. We are also having about 20 people and would rather have a private reception. My fiance is not very happy about the fact that we have to pay for "reception dinner" and "open bar" at an AI. I would consider a reservation at an ala carte restaurant, but I don't think they would provide a dance floor, sound system, in one of their restaurants? Did you get the rates for addtl items, e.g. flowers, and such from the WC? I will try and email her these questions and hopefully get a timely response Thanks for your advice, $970 is alot cheaper than $2000! PS does anyone know if Ocean Coral/Turquesa offers timeshare properties?

Thanks everyone for all the info! Re: operator, I think my TA will book through transat holidays. Does anyone know if the resort offers a "free" wedding as well? I found this site OCEAN HOTELS - by H10 :: Set on one of the most beautiful white sand beaches in all of Bávaro-Punta Cana. Surrounded by thousands of palm trees.... but at the bottom of the page, it talks about the Dominican govt. I wonder if this package is applicable to Mexico resorts?

Hi everyone, I am interested in having my wedding at this resort too, hopefully in Dec. 09! Would anyone be able to send me the pics and wedding info as well? I don't think their website has much about weddings, so any addtl. info would be great. My email is [email protected] Has anyone heard much about the beach/ocean? I realize the resort is in Puerto Morelos, (more seaweed compared to Playa beach...) Oh and will any of you ladies be going to their spa for your hair and makeup? Does this resort have its own photographer? Sorry so many questions!!!

Hi everyone! This is such a great thread, so much information and support from each other I have been trying to look for an all-adults resort that would allow kids for the wedding/reception, and then I found this thread! We are planning to have the wedding in early Dec. 09, does anyone know how busy it gets at the Royal PDC this time of the month? Also, has anyone received an actual confirmation recently from the WC saying that kids are still allowed? I was on tripadvisor and read how the resort changed from family-oriented to adults-only in 2006... basically they didn't give the wedding couples any notice, so most of them had to do huge last minute changes... anyway, I just wondered if their policy re: kids on the wedding day is still the same. I emailed one of the WC but still no reply. Thanks!

Just wondering about wedding insurance... is it really necessary? We are planning on having about 20 guests, does the 'wedding insurance' cover their airfare/accommodation package if the wedding gets cancelled or changed to another date for some reason? Or would that be covered under travel insurance? Thanks any info. will help!

Thank you Bianca for sharing the pics! The resort looks beautiful! I emailed DPA wanting some sample work of their "own" photographer and she sent me a pdf attachment, unfortunately the file is too big to post on here and she didn't give me the photographer's name. Let me know and I can email the file to you. Does anyone else know re: outdoor reception, how they would set up for a dance floor? Or if I wanted dancing, is my only option indoors? I have been looking at diff. travel sites and each ones gives a diff. "star"-rating for DPA. Is it a concern when it's rated 3 stars?

I see you're from BC too, are you working with a destination wedding consultant?

Azul Beach Hotel in Riviera Maya
bcbride replied to TammyWright's topic in Riviera Maya and Cancun Accommodations & Site
I have some questions... I really like the intimate and private atmosphere of the karisma hotels... was wondering if anyone knows what the beach is like here at azul beach? I may have children on my guest list so the El Dorado resorts are out of the question... -
Thanks everyone! It is a tough decision, I heard the beaches in Punta Cana are just amazing, but it seems there are alot more options for activities (outside the resort) in Mayan Riviera... but definitely a beautiful beach is important to me!

Hi Ladies, My TA/Wedding consultant is recommending this hotel for my wedding hopefully in December 2009! Ive been looking at the info on their website, but I would like to know what are most people doing for the reception? I think what's included in the package is "reservations" for the Spoons restaurant, but it would still be open to everyone else staying at the hotel right? I was trying to see how much it would cost to have a private reception, and it looked like it could cost around $60 each guest.... is it possible to do the Spoons option and still have a dance floor/DJ? Also, are you ladies thinking of using the spa for your hair and makeup or bringing/doing your own thing? Thanks! Any info/advice will help!

Hi everyone! I just got engaged over a month ago now, and we have always talked about a destination wedding. Trying to decide between Mayan Riviera or Dominican Republic.... hopefully in Dec. 2009!
