  1. Figured it out! Don't get me wrong there are some beautiful areas at Dreams as well...here is a pictures of my favorite tree there!! Unfortunatly a vendor guy sets up his table underneath it most of the days! but if you walk a little further that direction it looks like this : Here are a few pics of Paradisus Punta Cana: And the beautiful gazebo!
  2. Hey! We personalized our ceremony by having my maid of honor read a little poem about marriage after the Dominican Judge and Translator said their thing....Then we did the exchange of rings and then had another friend read the sand ceremony poem (easier to understand our friends then the Translator).... They had absolutely no issues with us personalizing our ceremony Here is a copy of our sand ceremony below: Bride and Groom, may your love always be as constant as the never ending waves, flowing endlessly from the depths of the sea. Just as the waters touch and nourish the many shores of the earth, may your love be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Just as there will never be a morning without the oceans flow, there will never be a day without your love for eachother. You have just sealed your relationship by the giving and receiving of rings. This beautiful union is symbolized through the combining of these two individual jars of sand. The first jar represents you, Bride, in all that you were, all that you are, and all that you will ever be. The other jar represents you, Groom, in all that you were, all that you are, and all that you will ever be. Each one holds its own unique beauty, strength and character. They can stand on their own and be whole, without need of anything else. However, when these two are blended together they create an entirely new and extraordinary more intricate entity. Each grain of sand brings to the mixture a lasting beauty that forever enriches the combination. When you pour the sand into this common container, it symbolizes the union of your two lives. (begin pouring) Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again in the individual containers, so will your marriage be a molding of two individual personalities, bonded together, forming one heart, one love. The life that each of you experienced now, individually, will hereafter be inseparably united, for the two shall become one.
  3. Hey! Come July the sun will be setting earlier then it did in June, however the sun did not set untill around 730 for our wedding June 9. We did pictures right up untill 730 and our photographer had no issues. They are proffessionals and know how to work with the lighting...also I wanted sunset pictures but unfortunately the sun sets behind some mountains in Punta Cana at that time of year and there are no sunsets Oh well! This is what it looked like the day we got married...some blue sky, some clouds, but it was perfect!
  4. I am biased but the beach forsure forsure forsure is nicer at Paradisus Punta Cana vs. Dreams Punta Cana anyway. We stayed at Paradisus for our wedding which was gorgeous....well kept, lots of room, comfy well kept lounging chairs and beds. The terrace at Paradisus was half indoorish with open areas to the outside, in the main lobby area but very private. We went to dreams for our second honeymoon week....we were not impressed.... dreams beach had pricklies when you walked on the sand...the ocean was filled with random coral which cut our feet so we barely went in the ocean. it was small..you look to the right you see garbage, you look to the left you see garbage and are in the middle of no where...there is no where to walk and nothing to see and KIDS!! Also the terrace at Dreams is overlooking the garden area, nowhere near the ocean...actually it is right by a HUGE kids area... If you send me a message with your email I can send pics...I just am not good at adding them on here! Good luck!
  5. We got married at the Paradisus Punta Cana.....We got married at 530 p.m. (took MAYBE 30 minutes), had a cocktail 1/2 hourish. Had supper at 730-1030....the reception time does not start untill your supper starts (supper was served basically right at 730 too, no messin around!) and really we said 1030 but we danced untill atleast 11 and then went to the disco which is AWESOME! Altho we did not stay long our friends had a blast...that disco was pumpin almost every night!!
  6. We, along with our 24 guests had absolutely no concerns or issues whatsoever with any staff at the Paradisus!! Only at the airport did we sort of have an issue....there are guys who try to help move your luggage for you and one of our friends cell phones got picked off of him... The hotel felt very safe...and there is a safe in the room as well!
  7. We did airplane luggage tags which served also as our seating arrangement. We put each guests name in the tag, and I made little tags to put on them and then the resort put it on their plate so they knew where to sit. I ordered them off a wedding website, not sure which one now. Depending on your size of group its not that expensive.
  8. Hey there KPEG....I am originally from MB, but now live in Edmonton. We just got married June 9 at the Paradisus Punta Cana....obviously I'm biased but I believe this is THE Place to get married!!!! Look into it atleast. Half of our guests travelled from Winnipeg (Air Canada) and their trip for one week in June was approximately $1700.00. From the research I did planning our wedding May and June prices are quite similar. When we were booking we wanted our trip to be less than $2000.00 and figured those who want to come will come, and obviously those who matter will come too. This resort is definatly worth the "extra" dollars, and our wedding was amazing. Feel free to message me for more info! Chow!
  9. Ha, ya whoops a little tiny! Ya we were afraid of rain so we had our reception in the Terrace...it's very secluded and they set it up beautifully! And it didn't rain, but we were still very pleased with our decision to have it in the Terrace...the only problem is it was HOTTER then hot, luckily we all had fans, and Inoska brought in some electrical fans so we had a little bit of a breeze! I must add to that they did not charge us extra for any of our decorations at the gazebo or at the terrace! Inoska really helped us get around some of the budget loop holes!!
  10. OH also, we spend our second week, our "honeymoon" at the Dreams resort. In my eyes Dreams does not even compare to Paradisus Punta Cana, its much smaller, more children EVERYWHERE and the a la carts are nothing overly special. The Paradisus Punta Cana just has that WOW effect!
  11. Hey Erin! We flew from Edmonton and Winnipeg, staying at the Paradisus Punta Cana for approximatly $1700/person (for double occupancy). We went in June, I'm sure prices vary during the year. But this resort is worth the money (I thought it was cheap for EVERYTHING we got!!), everything about this resort is fantastic, and our wedding was AMAZING!
  12. If anyone is questioning where in Punta Cana to get married, THIS IS THE PLACE! I was one of the "unfortunate" brides whose dream wedding in Mexico was cancelled because of the Swine Flu....however I am a true believer that everything happens for a reason. And I honestly believe we could not have had a better, more beautiful wedding than we did June 9, 2009 at the Paradisus Resort. First off, this resort is breathtaking the second you arrive. The lobby is gorgeous, the grounds are well kept with lush greenery EVERYWHERE. The resort is HUGE, which at first I thought was going to be a downer, but it turned out to be better then I could have ever imagined. There was enough places for everyone to site see, you could get a way from the group if you wanted, yet all of us seemed to find eachother frequently throughout the day and at night. They have transportation which zooms you around the resort getting you where you want to go quickly, and if you choose to walk it really isn't that far either. The front counter staff were very accommodating when we asked that all of our group be in the same area, we ended up being in buildings 22, 23, 24, and 25. The rooms are not brand new, but you can tell that they have been recently renovated. The beds & pillows are soft, and the rooms are kept very clean. Obviously some people had bug problems, after all we're in the Dominican!!! I was slightly stressed upon arrival to Punta Cana, first off it was raining when we arrived which scared me because the last thing I wanted was rain on our wedding day (who does!!?!?).... We met with Inoska, our wedding coordinator, the next morning and all my stresses were put to rest. Even though I had only received 3 or 4 brief emails from her in the one month of planning we had, she was very organized. She was proffessional, polite and understanding. She asked us what we wanted and got it done. After meeting with her I knew our day would be great and that I had nothing to worry about. I was very worried about my hair for the BIG day, so I had a hair trial 2 days before. I am sooo happy I did this. Although the girl (Ana) did a pretty good job the first time, it wasn't perfect. I went prepared, had pictures of what I wanted. Ana did not speak very much english so the receptionist was translating for her. Ana seemed very confident, which reassured me. The only real problem was my bangs, she couldn't figure out how I wanted them. They allowed us to take pictures so on the day of the wedding I took the pictures from the trial and explained what I wanted differently, and it turned out PERFECT! I absolutley loved my hair on my wedding day, I felt and looked like a princess. I have tried to attatch some pictures so you can see how beautiful the resort, wedding gazebo and my hair was!!! When I have time I will finish my review on Paradisus Punta Cana, but untill then if any of you bride-to-be's have any questions don't hesitate to ask!
  13. I too have been severely affected by this Swine Flu...our wedding was scheduled, booked, EVERYTHING for June 11, 2009 at the Dreams Resort in Cabo. Last night we found out all flights to Mexico from Canada are banned untill atleast June 20, probably untill the fall ...Now I'm in a mad rush to re book our wedding as well as our 25 guests. I am crossing my fingers, praying and hoping that the Dreams Punta Cana can accomodate us and our guests, and that there are flights! What a NIGHTMARE!
  14. Hey I know this is an old thread, but just wondering what you found out for translating your documents, or if you even had to translate them??! I had our birth certificates notarized and then was going to get them authenticated if needed.... If you know what I need to do please tell me!!! Thanks!
  15. We are from Canada and will be having a legal ceremony in Los Cabos, Mexico next year and are trying to figure out the whole apostille thing. I found out that in Canada we don't apostille but instead have to notarize our birth certificates with a lawyer/notary. What I'm wondering is if we also have to further "authenticate" our birth certificates, and also if we have to translate them into spanish? And if so what is the order to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
  16. How much did it cost for your "Spa Day" before the wedding? I am interested in doing this as well but worried about HOW MUCH it will cost...I have myself as well as 4 bridesmaids, and I thought maybe the moms too!! But its worth it ?!!!!?
  17. We invited about 40 and so far have 23 with deposits down. We are hoping for 3-5 more people! (those who said "oh yes yes forsure we'll be there" yet haven't put their deposits down...just tell me the truth already!!!)
  18. I also have Yesica as my wedding coordinator. I only waited about one week to confirm our date (and that was only 8 months before our date). Although we are getting married during the week as the Saturday was taken, but we don't care! Our guests and ourselves are there for the whole week anyways! I find it does take a while for her to get back to me via email, but at this time nothing is really urgent anyway. The only thing I have found is that Dreams may charge slightly more for things then external vendors. For example, to "upgrade" my bouquet at Dreams they told me $150.00 "with discount", however a external vendor has quoted the same bouquet for $95.00. Because of this I am doing MORE research into external vendors. I too was wondering if they add extra costs once we get there
  19. We too are slightly stressed about people forsurely coming to our June 2009 DW wedding...right now we have 23 people (and us) who have put down their deposits ($250), but really that doesn't mean they won't cancel last minute before final payment!! I'm just crossing my fingers that they pull through!! Also, our travel agent has a deal where if we have 26 people we get one free trip....so we really want ONE more person to sign up so we can get that deal! We are having a Wedding Reception and Dance back home 2 weeks after come back from Mexico. We are inviting EVERYONE, all the extended family, highschool friends, college friends, work friends, etc..... That way everyone feels included. Our plan is to have a slideshow of our wedding in Mexico so its like they were there, i'll wear my dress again, he'll wear his suit ...the whole deal!! I think it will be fun to have 2 weddings!!!
  20. We are getting married June 2009. We are going with Manuel Burgoin for our photographer and he suggested getting married at 630 p.m. As the sun sets between 750 and 810. So our plan is ceremony 630-700, individual/group pics as well as cocktail hour 700-800 p.m. Supper to be served at 815, have small speaches during supper. Dance to begin 900 p.m. and go untill 1030. I think that still gives us plenty enough time to do the cake cutting, first dances and dance, then we'll just hit the lobby bar or something!
  21. Wow, as soon as I found out our group rate with our travel agent she told me that rate only applied for one week and that I have to have 10 people put down their deposits before the end of the week to "secure" our group rate for good. So i had all of our immediate family (moms, dads, siblings) book right away....then the travel agent went and told me our rate actually is only saved untill end of january (for a june wedding)...does this sound normal to you?? We already have 25 people booked, and final payment has to be in by the end of january. ....we're hoping to get one more person because then we get one free trip....probably to use towards ourselves!!!!
  22. I hear ya....exact same thing here, I bought our chair bows on ebay for cheap, thinking they could just set them up for me without charge...and she keeps saying 2 USD each....i was hoping it was the language barrier, and that she was just unsure of what i was asking/saying...if that is the case i might just have some of my friends put up the chair bows... Did she say anything to you about charging to put your favors out?? What other extra costs should we be expecting?!?!!?
  23. We're getting married June 11, 2009 at the Dreams Resot in Los Cabos.... So far we've....Confirmed a group rate (and have 25 guests booked!!), booked the photographer and DJ in Cabo, bought my wedding dress, the bridesmaid dresses, bought fuscha chair bows, sent out my Mexico Invites and Canada STD's... I'm sort of at a loss of what more I could be doing right now.... Thank goodness for this site!
  24. We are getting married on a Thursday (June 11, 2009), and I think its absolutley fine!! We sort of had to with the Mexican laws...we are doing a civil wedding and therefore have to be there 4 full business days before they will marry us (not including the day you arrive, weekends or holidays).....So because of this we are actually going to Cabo the week before so that we are their long enough to legally get married (sort of important ) Our guests are all arriving Monday-Monday, we will have to use some of the "locals" to sign our marriage license but thats fine!
