  4. Hi, I did passport STD and am planning to do boarding pass invites. For the passport the most time consuming part was the creation of the design, the majority of the creation happened at the printers. The boarding passes will have more "stages" of construction so I've already enlisted some crafty friends who will enjoy the process. DO you have anyone like that you could ask so it becomes less of a chore and more of a social event? It might be less likely to stress you out? Hannah x
  5. Hello everyone, We've spent the weekend putting the finishing touches on our website; please can you let me know what you think and anything that would be useful to add. FYI I made it using momentville.com and have been really pleased with it. THe formatting when you're typing in is quite annoying as it keeps adding in HTML code, but I think you expect some glitches with a free service. 6. Hi, I did a special box for each of my Bridesmaids. It was shoe box size and the lid had their name in lettering. As you lift off the lid there was a sheet of tissue paper with the words "will you be my bridesmaid?" and then they tear through the tissue paper there were the folowing items: a "how to be a bridesmaid" guidebook a mounted card with all the wedding details, days times etc A DVD of the hilarious film "confetti" which doubled as the greeting card as I wrote the special message inside the sleeve (I thought everytime they watch it they'll think of being a bridesmaid whereas cards get lost over time) A downloaded french phrasebook from single-serving.com A little tape measure and pencil to write down their measurements An invite to a "bridesmaid's bonding weekend" in London three weeks later so they could all meet and finally their invite to the engagement party. I went round saying I needed their help to make some wedding decisions and each one of them took the mick out of me for having a shoebox full of wedding stuff already! I then gave them a stack of engagement invites to give out but not their's and then handed them the box and said, "and your's is in there". Their faces when they took the lid off were wonderful - they all cried, it was a lovely moment. They cost about £10 each (about $20), cheap boxes from ikea, tape measures and pencils were the free ones from Ikea, I made the stationery using paper and card I had already bought for scrapbooking. The books cost £3.99 ($ each and the DVDs were £5 ($10) - the only real expense. If I hadn't had the book and DVD it would've been pennies. I remember taking some photos, it you're interested I'll look them out and post them up, Hannah x
  7. Hello everyone, A big thanks to everyone who posted pictures or advice on passport STDs. Mine are complete and went in the post yesterday. Here is a photo: (I hope!) I did the cover using yellow cardstock for the cover and used plain paper for the insides but the "dotty" pattern made it look yellow. The lovely ladies in the printroom at work offered to do all the printing for me so that has only set me back a box of chocs. Instead of envelopes I used small polythene bags and created address labels to go inside them, then stuck them down. This was much cheaper than using envelopes and I thought it was nice that you could see the design as soon as it drops through the door. Finally, I had a problem with "personalising" each passport with the names of the invited whilst keeping with the passport theme. So I came up with the idea of having a "baggage label" like the ones which they stick to the back of your passport for baggage reclaim. It wa a bit different and I think it works. I have attached both templates for your use, they are in publisher format and I have downloaded some fonts so it might not look exactly as it does in the photos if you don't have those fonts. Also the design is a hybrid between a French and UK passport so some of the details are a bit different from your US ones. I hope this is of use to someone, Hannah x template for BDW.pub baggage tag.pub

  10. Hello everyone, I attach a spreadsheet which has been handed down to me from various brides who assure me it is really helpful for before you get your invites or date saving stationery out, and more importantly the RSVPs back. Basically you fill out your guest info as normal and after each couple/family you put the percentage chance they will attend. The spreadsheet then adds it all up and churns out an estimated number of guests at your wedding based on all your percentages. It's pretty rudimentary but is helpful for estimating costs and accommodation, OOT bags etc. My sister said it was pretty accurate, but you have to be brutally honest about whether people will/can attend, also helps you factor in people who you have to invite but certainly won't come due to cost/distance etc. It's a planning document probably for your eyes only as feelings may be hurt!! Hope it is helpful to someone, Hannah x guest expectancy ss.xls
  11. Hi everyone, We're getting married in South-West France and my FI is French. He loves wearing linen and really wants to wear this on his wedding day and for it to be "de rigueur" for all the men at the wedding. I'm more than happy with this. However I want him to stand out a bit as the groom. He's going to have a flower but so will his Best Man and our Temoin (french equivalent of witnesses). We aren't buying the attire for male attendants, not done in France and basically impossible given that they all live in different countries (France, UK and USA). So, how can I make him stand out as the groom without losing the relaxed linen look? Waistcoat? matching handkerchief in pocket? white tie? What do people think? Hannah
  12. Hi, I'm just reading through people's posts about their "out of town" bags and I really want to do one of these too now! For our wedding we're inviting 90 guests, about 70 will be travelling from outside France (England, Wales, Canada, US, Italy to name a few). Can anyone recommend something to make guests feel special on their arrival without costing a fortune? Hannah

    Bonjour!

Hello everyone, I'm Hannah from the UK and I'm getting married next summer in South-West France, about an hour away from Toulouse. We're getting married on the 1st August 2009 and having a traditional "big french wedding". I've had a good old read of all the posts on here and am looking forward to getting to know everyone. RIght, now I must go and work out how to put a photo on here! Hannah x
