GAH! Media always blows things out of proportion. However it is still good to be cautious and gather all the facts and make informed decisions. When SARS hit Toronto it was blown out of proportion too. I remember out of towners wearing masks everywhere in the city. However, my fiancee's family friend was a doctor who contracted the virus from a patient and sadly died whilst the patient survived. So it does happen. We just have to make sure we are prepared and informed to minimize these types of incidents.

Hopefully we can use that as a rough estimate for 2010 weddings. Who is your travel agent (I am hunting for a good one right now) and what month are you planning to get married? I am in the same boat as everyone here. The pricing for my resorts in 2009 were $1300-$1500 (Gran Porto Real) and $1800-$2000 (Royal Playa Del Carmen). When the 2010 pricing came out this month I found the prices to be $500-$700 more than 2009. I'd like to wait until August but my wedding is in January so I would like to get a head start on booking.

There is a lot of topless women on the beach (I am actually curious if you guys can report back on how bad this is, I really don't want to someone else's tits in my face all day, especially on the big day). LOL!!! Thanks for the that Ok so I am confused now too with the pricing! I will be a guest at the hotel, BUT I am NOT getting married at the Royal, but I am doing the reception there. So are these price changes only if you book BOTH wedding and reception?

Anyone know? What month are you getting married? I am in January and I asked the photographer/videographer this "since we are getting married in January we heard the sun goes down early. We don't want to have the ceremony too early because that means the reception will start early. So what time do you suggest? I was thinking around 2:30-3pm for the ceremony. Maybe the cocktail around 4-5 and then the reception from 6-onwards." His response "In January at 5:30 is completely dark, I think is ok to have the Ceremony at 2:30 PM" My next question "how long before the ceremony do you typically start shooting..." His response "We use to start one hour before the ceremony taking some shots while you are getting ready, then the ceremony and after this the video session by the beach and different locations, family and wedding party."

It really depends on the prices, trying to keep it under 2k for everyone out of Edmonton, Calgary and Toronto. Its just tough really knowing right now. Prices for 2010 are so high. We originally were thinking Cancun in the spring but the prices we were quoted from the Travel Agent were outrageous, almost $1000 more than we were expecting. This got me looking for alternatives and I stumbled upon the Gran Porto Real. EmenGeeRoxx The prices you were quoted for the Porto Real, were they out of Toronto. Hi yes, out of Toronto. I looked through TripCentral, iTravel2000 and Air Canada Vacations. Currently all are quoting the same high prices. It was actually cheaper to book back in February 2009 when I started shopping around. Didn't realize the prices would jump up so high. In fact I thought it would be the opposite given the economic situation. I'll wait another few weeks.

Yes that is what I am hoping. I just got worried because I have been watching the prices/trends for this past year and didn't see the consistency once 2k10 hit. I want to get my invitations out asap as well so I am hoping the pricing settles downward soon. I have been using January 2009 pricing as a barometer for my guests so they will sh!t if they see the current January 2010 prices. I am seeing this info on the typical travel sites in Canada (tripcentral, selloffvacations, etc). I guess I will wait a bit longer!

Best of luck Shay in the next few weeks! I noticed the pricing for trip packages are starting to come out for January 2010. I am disappointed the prices are really high! I haven't actually seen anything for the Royal yet but everything in Mayan is higher. For example the sister resort, the Gran Porto Real, for January 2009 was averaging $1300-$1500 CAD. For January 2010 they are asking $1900-$2100 CAD. I can't imagine how much the Royal will cost. Any idea why the prices are so high for January 2010. Historically January has been one of the cheaper times to go outside Hurricane season.

My fiancee uses MAC all the time and she gets a discount. Thanks.

Everything was phenomenal. Our choice to marry in PDC and at the Royal was the best decision. I will get my professional pics this week. But, I'll try to post a full review ASAP. xoxo, Veronica Congrats!!!! I am so happy to hear you had the best time. Can't wait to see your pics and read the full review!!!

Should she spend a fortune on them? NO. But she should be able to find something she is happy with that you can agree to spend the money on. Are you guys DIY people? You could save a ton of money and get what you want doing it yourself. The invite sets the tone for the whole wedding, she just wants it to be perfect. I am very DIY and good at that stuff. I honestly just think it's a waste of time and money. I'll probably end up doing it but I would have rather used that money to pay for more playing time for my live band. I think of it as a necessary evil, like paying taxes We will probably be doing both the traditional old school invites as well as following up with electronic invites. Pretty much all of our friends our age prefer the e-invites as they can easily upload to their PDAs, while the older people are the only ones who would make use out of the traditional paper invitation. Oh well I guess everyone can use extra coasters for their homes.

I hate to say it but most of us guys don't pay too much attention to invitations or save the dates. So many weddings I have been part of the other guys are always asking the other people "when is the wedding?, what time? where again"? even though they all received invitations with all the details. My fiancee and I are butting heads right now about invitations. I don't want to spend too much time or money on them because as a guy I cannot honestly remember one invitation I have received in the 20+ weddings I have been to in the last 3 years. Yes this includes even the ones I have been a part of. I only remember the food, the drinks, the music and the overall party of a particular wedding. I know the sentiment is the same for my wedding. Most guys just check online for updates or on our Facebook group. I can guarantee any invite we send will be used as a coaster lol.

Best wishes Veronica. I know you guys will have an amazing time!!! I also have some good news. My fiancee and I won a salsa competition this past weekend and we got an all expense paid trip to Cancun or Puerto Vallarta. We are trying to see if we can get it switched to the Royal of course so hopefully it pans out for us Here is a vid in case you are interested Winter Salsa Carnival Finals: March 13, 2009

2010 Brides
EmenGeeRoxx replied to leogurl's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
I have the same problem. I am not liking the prices some of the TAs are giving me. Way overpriced in my opinion. I will wait another month or 2 to see. -
After! I have been to a few destination weddings. The ones who had more time before the wedding were stressed out. There is always something to do or nitpick. The ones who had more time after the wedding were more relaxed and had a way better time since they were able to just hang out and spend time with their friends and family.
