  1. By the way, the place where ur having the AHR is beautiful.
  2. The joys of planning a wedding. I think that's one of the reasons I'm not having a AHR. The thought of planning a second wedding would drive me crazy. Although I probably should be having one 'cause there is quite a few people that will not be able to come to JA and not too happy about it being there. Oh well. Getting back to your dilemma, I know how Jamaicans can be when it comes to these type of events and asking for $$ but they also need to be realistic and senstive to the fact that weddings are not cheap and you guys are having 2.
  3. I hear you. I guess if I were having an AHR then I wouldn't be as inclined to pay for everyone or collect afterwards. I think you should let everyone know upfront. I'm sure they'll understand that you're on a budget. I see you're also from TO. Where are you having your reception?
  4. Actually we'll be paying for everyone. Many of the peope coming from out of town still have to pay for flight and accommodations even though they're not staying at the RIU. Thought it would be a bit much for me to ask of people. Could you possible pay for everyone and get someone to collect it on your behalf the day of the wedding??
  5. What a relief I expected to pay the $50/pp but not $80. Thanks for looking into this.
  6. Thanks for asking that question Shenmaat. I am also in the same boat with a lot of our family from JA. The ones that live in Canada and the US know people in JA and so they want to stay by them and then come to the wedding for the day. This is definitely a downfall for me getting married there. Pls post the response when you get it.
  7. Thanks for posting the pics. Evita's looked great and you looked amazing. Glad everyone has such a great time!
  8. I'm glad that she offered this too because I was going crazy. If I had known about this site and realized that Evita's was even an option, I probably would have chosen them instead. I do have a plan B but really praying that I won't have to use it. I didn't even think about the steps, so thanks. So many things to think about and so difficult when your so far away. All your info has helped out ALOT!!!!!
  9. When I tried to book the Plantation she told me it was already booked. I wanted to have it at a private area, so she gave me the option of having it by the pool or at Seagrapes. They are both $50/pp which includes (set up, food, drinks). The good thing for me too, is that I can have both the dinner and the danicing at the same place (which is why I initially wanted the Plantation). I won't know until I get there and able to look at both places but I'm glad you saw Seagrapes and liked it. In terms of the disco, I'm sure it will be perfect for many people, but I have quite a few older folks coming and stools just wouldn't work for them.
  10. Thanks so much for taking the time to write this very thorough review. It has helped a great deal and I will definitely not be having the dancing part at the disco. I'm still considering doing the whole reception by the pool. Did you ever see it set up for a wedding?
  11. Hi Mo, I know ur busy with school so I understand that you may not be able to answer right away, but I would like to find out about the store you used, Ocho Rios Flower and Garden center. I'm thinking about going with someone off the resort for my bouquet and centre pieces, etc. Any info would be appreciated. Good luck with your homework.
  12. Congrats Mo! I just got a chance to look at your pics and you look absolutely stunning. I am sure you must be so happy that after all the planning, everything turned out so beautiful. Can't wait to hear the details.
  13. Glad you made it to JA safely. Have a fabulous time!
  14. LOL.... sounds like a great plan. I'll definitely be doing the same....thanks once again!
  15. Jerzzygirl, What did you end up doing to carry your sand/vases back
  16. I might be having my reception by the pool, as the Plantation restaurant wasn't available and my party may be too large for the semi-private area. I'm alittle concerned that there's no room set aside for a reception by the pool area, especially if I have to pay $50/pp. I've asked them to send me pics so that I can plan some decorations accordingly but the said the have none....boo
  17. Hi Jerzzygirl, Wondering if you saw any wedding receptions by the pool while you were there.
  18. Congratulations to you!! I am new to this site and this is actually my first post but I really wanted to say a little something. Yes, I'm a newbie...lol I'm getting married at the ROR in April '08 and I am so thankful to all of you brides-to-be for the vast amount of info that you have shared. I don't really think I could possibly provide you guys w/ anymore info than you already have, but I will be sure to send anything I get from the WC. I am really looking forward to seeing the pics from your wonderful day. Mich PS - sorry I don't have any fancy pics or anything exciting attached, I'm not very computer savy
