If you want to go down south do it! Don't regret not doing it. But anywhere you choose your wedding will be special and beautiful.

Everyone there was great and they made it worry free. I highly recommend having a reception, wherever it may be, in a restaurant. We had a great time.

I am curious though, why didnt the DW at Riu Ocho Rios pan out? It didn't work out for several reasons: pricing, family resistance, timing ... Although, I am kind of glad it didn't work out or else I would still be planning a wedding. It was fun, but I am glad it is over. We will get to Jamaica though for a real honeymoon. Right now we are renovating our house. How romantic!
  4. I did this in 6 weeks. I only work well under pressure. I think I did most of the crafty bits in 2 weeks, very sporadically. I didn't want to be planning and stressing over a wedding for months/years like some brides, so we decided on a quick turn around.
  5. The flowers turned out so good. Exactly what I had imagined. I asked for something natural with lots of berries and greenery. So beautiful. The boutonnieres (sp?) and corsages were great too, each one was different. The reception was held at The Bier Markt in Toronto. The room was so cozy and warm. The ceremony was at noon (City Hall) so I wanted a place that wasn't too bright. It turned out perfectly. Ok. Thats all the pics I have for now. I will post pics of the day when they are developed.
  6. I made the table decorations out of dogwood branches that I glued fake snow/sparkles to (giant sparkle mess). Stuck the branches in floral foam (the green stuff) and then poured fake snow over it to hide the green. I think they turned out quite nicely. I put "wish" tags on the trees instead of having a guest book. I took this idea from some of the guest book I have seen on the forum. Couldn't get the book together in time but I will put the tags in my scrapbook, one day. I took this directly from someone else's idea page.
  7. The Menus - I made them. I am not crafty at all, but I have my moments. The Drink Menus - we had the reception at a beer focused restaurant so the drinks menu was essential. The favour bags - I made shortbread cookies (10 dozen) with Toblerone in the middle as the favours (my husband is Scottish).
  8. The shoes are from David's Bridal. They are called Chloe (new line - not on the internet when I bought them 2 weeks ago) The Jewellery - I got it at Macy's The purse - I got it at a vintage store where I live called "The Cat's Meow"
  9. The dress - I didn't have time to order a dress, so I had one made. I think it turned out pretty well.
  10. Hi All Jamaica Brides, So my wedding at RIU OR didn't pan out, but I did tie the knot here at home yesterday. I took a lot of the ideas and bits of advice from the forum so I thought I would share pics of my wedding stuff, as soon as I can figure out how to attach images to a post. Its been a while since I posted so it may take me a few minutes to figure it out.
  11. Oh, you should post the pics on here if she doesn't mind. I would like to see them too.
  12. You could always have your weding off site. There is a company mentioned in some of the other posts that will coordinate an off-site wedding/reception. they looked really nice. My travel agent is trying to convince us to go to the RIU in Negril, he really loves it. He said he saw an awesome wedding at some little hotel called the caves.
  13. Does anyone know if there are a minimum number of days you have to be in the country before you can get married. My travel agent said 72 hrs., but i want to confirm that.
  14. This stuff is soooo helpful, keep it coming!
  15. holy, this thing is going to add up. I'm not sure who suggested it , but candles, sand and shells seem like a good choice for centrepieces. I am glad to see that the green orchids are available, i love those, although i won't be ordering the centrepice for 90 bucks, but a single orchid for the bouttonniers (sp?) would look nice. I am interested to know if we can order from off site.
  16. I need to know where David's bridal is in Buffalo. I looked in the store finder, but it must be just outside the city b/c I didn't see a store in Buffalo. My friend went there to find a dress so I knew existed, just not where.
  17. Thanks for posting this review. I was having a hard time with my decision and now I feel completely comfortable with what I have chosen. My cousin works on a cruise ship that stops in Ocho Rios every week and she sent me a warning about crime in the area which made me a bit nervous, but I haven't heard anyone else mention a problem with crime, so I think I will tell my guest to be careful, but am still going ahead with Jamaica.
  18. Sorry about that girls, had a bit of a meltdown, but its over now. I looked through all of the Jamaica threads and re-affirmed why I picked there in the first place, because its so freaking cool? Anyways, found a list of photogs that I will look into. It will all work out in the end. I took a break from the forum for a few days, probably a good idea every now and then. Thanks for all your support. This was the first meltdown but, I'm sure it won't be the last.

And i'll let you all know what I decide.

  21. I haven'y book my wedding location and am having second thoughts about my first choice. Right now we are planning on getting married at Riu Ocho Rios in Jamaice, but after being on this forum and seeing everyone's amazing photos and reviews from Cabo I am thinking that it looks really amazing. I haven't been to either Mexico nor Jamaica. Does anyone have any advice? I have looked at Riu Palace Cabo and was wondering if anyone had ever been there and what their thoughts are about it. One of the things that is really bugging me is the photographer at RiuOR is terrible, absolutely not what I am looking for and the resort has a no outside photographer rule unless they are a guest for 3 days (way too expensive). I have been looking at all the sites for photographers in Cabo and they are amazing (Sol and Juan especially). Photos are really important to me so this is really worrying me. Anyways, maybe just the thought of committing to a location (ie, putting down the cash) is making me nervous. I would hate to pick the wrong site.
  22. I saw those at Chapters (Canadian book store like Barnes and Noble) this week and immediately thought about putting them in my OOT bags. What a great idea.
  23. MMMMMM, this sounds so yummy. I have never had it before, but it sounds so good I can't stop thinking about it. I will definitely have to make this one. I even went to buy a mexican cookbook, but couldn't find one with this recipe. Good post.
