Blood Tests required in Cancun Hospital before wedding

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am from England and most of the wedding brochures state that to get married in Mexico a mandatory blood test for the bride and grooms is required upon arrival in Mexico which is done in a hospital in Cancun and costs I am sure around $190 each for the bride and groom.

I am not sure if this is the same for other countries but is anyone from the UK aware of this. This has totally put me off getting married in Mexico and I have been there on holiday and loved it.

Thanks Kim.

yes if you want a legal ceremony you have to have the blood tests. depending on the resort and wedding package you choose, the cost will be included in the package. also, some resorts will bring in the docs so that you dont have to go to the hospital. the blood tests and the translation of documents require that you arrive at the resort between 3 and 5 days BEFORE the wedding day (depending on the resort's policy)

once we looked at all of the necessary documents, translations, and blood work we decided to get married in the US first and do a "symbolic" wedding in Mexico. it just seems a lot easier to us. only our parents know that we are getting married here first. it will just be signing documents and we will use our mexican wedding as our actual wedding. good luck!!

Hi Kim....

Were from the UK & getting Married at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya in May 2011. We umm'd n Argh'd with this for so so long... but want to get married in Mexico so decided to just have the test done.

I have spoken to Thomson, First choice and Thomas cook and a couple of girls on here about this as it was my biggest worry.

I have found out our blood test will be included in our wedding package if booked through them and not with the hotel direct and it is done about 2 days before your wedding with test results back that day or day after and this is done in your hotel room by a doctor.

I would say check with travel agents as this may vary resort to resort. If you havent decided on where to get wed yet this could maybe be one of the deciding factors. I know how you feel though as this was the major thing i was worried about.

Where are you getting married? & When?

:-) x

Is there anyone who has already gotten married and did get their blood taken? I was wondering how experienced they are in taking your blood. My FI has always had a hard time getting his blood taken and we definitely don't want a noobie at it probing his poor arms. Any wise words?

Hi NicyX,

We went to Mexico in May 2008 and stayed at th Gran Bahia Principe Coba. Everything about our Mexico hol was perfect so I thought this would be the place to get married. I must say having to have the blood tests has put me off looking more into Mexico Weddings. I havn't actually mentioned Mexico as a destination to my Fiance because of this. I therefore went back to the drawing board and I am now focued on Sandals Whitehouse. It will probably only be the two of us or a couple of friends with this as after all it is our honeymoon as well and we don't want the fuss of family etc as at the end of the day it is about us two.

Hopefully it will be Sandals Whitehouse in either November 2011 or April 2012. Off to Australia for a month in November this year and skiing in March 2011 so it has put the wedding date back!.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
