  1. We got married in December 2009 and aren't having our AHR until August. I just graduated from law school so between classes and now studying for the bar exam, there just really wasn't much time.
  2. We had a legal ceremony in CR in December 2009. It worked out well but the only thing I would say is to ask more questions about the document preparation. I was under the impression that we would get certified copies of our marriage certificate in English and Spanish, but (after more than 3 months) we ended up only getting one and it was in Spanish. Luckily it's worked everywhere I've needed it (like with social security, banks, dmv, etc.) but I do wish I had one in English as well.

I'm so sorry I'm just now seeing your earlier post asking about the Occidental, but I see that it's no longer on your list of options. It ended up working out well, but I'm not sure I would recommend it. We rented a car and drove south down the coast one day and stopped by the Barcelo Langosta b/c we had met people on our tour that were staying there. It's beautiful but much bigger and more "commercial" than the Occidental. The beach is really beautiful though - white sand and a perfect view of the sunset. It would be a wonderful place for a wedding. Have you made a decision yet?
  4. Did you make the wine stoppers? If so, where did you get the supplies? I love them and love the idea.
  5. Everything looks great! Very creative and the color combo is unusual but looks really good.
  6. I love these and they look so simple. This might be a dumb question, but what are you going to do with them? I got married last December but our AHR isn't until August, so I'm looking for ideas for favors for the AHR. These are cute and cheap!
  7. KJW - it was the Buena Vista Canopy Tour. Here's their website: Costa Rica Eco Lodges – Buena Vista Lodge. They take you to the tour location in a van, and the guide explains about the people, culture, scenery, etc. on the way there. First, we went ziplining and then down a huge water slide. Then we had lunch, rode horses up to the hot springs, and then just relaxed at the hot springs in the sauna, mud bath, and different temperature pools. It was a great time, and I would highly recommend it! Where are you staying in CR?
  8. I thought I would chime in here...I finished my first round of Insanity a couple weeks ago and am totally hooked. It is AWESOME. It's so hard, but it definitely produces results. I also followed the nutrition guide very strictly in the beginning but then began venturing out, although I still eat 5 or 6 "clean" meals per day and stick within the calorie range. The thing I liked about Insanity is you don't need any equipment. I recently started ChaLean Extreme. It's ok, but I missed Insanity, so I've been doing both. I would highly, highly recommend Insanity. But, as with any exercise program, you have to eat well or you won't see results. 80% of losing weight/getting in shape is diet.
  9. I got married in Costa Rica in December 2009 and loved it. It's so beautiful, and the people were really nice and friendly. We flew into Liberia and got married at the Occidental Grand Papagayo in Guanacaste. While we were there we rented a car and drove south down the coast towards Tamarindo, Playa Hermosa, etc. I would highly recommend CR!! The only thing I wanted to do that we didn't get to do was go to the volcano, but because we were staying on the coast and the volcano is more in the middle of the country, it would have taken about three hours to get there. And we decided we didn't want to spend an entire day to do it. I've heard it's really cool though. We went on a fabulous tour (of course I'm blanking on the name right now...) where we went zip-lining, horseback riding, down a huge waterslide, and to a hot springs. It was awesome.
  10. This is my dress too, and I LOVE it! My hair is halfway down my back, so I'm definitely wearing it up. I would be way too hot too if I didn't! I have another question for you ladies wearing "Reese"... What are you doing with the train? At my last fitting the seamstress was trying different ways to bustle it, but nothing looked right. They kind of ruined the look of the back of the dress, which is the best part. I thought about cutting it off to make it shorter but wasn't sure if I really wanted to do that. I'm just worried about it being too long and getting really dirty. I'm 5'11 so the dress length is perfect, but the train is pretty long. Thanks in advance for any ideas or suggestions!!
  11. Hi everyone. I'm brand new to creating a profile but have been reading the forum for awhile. We recently booked our destination wedding at the Occidental Grand Papagayo in Costa Rica for December 2009. We originally had planned to go to Sandals St. Lucia in October but after the return flight was cancelled and the price increased substantially, we decided to go with a different location. Anyway, just wanted to say hello!
  12. I'm getting married in Costa Rica this December and wondered if anyone knows the date the marriage will be legal here in the U.S. I know we won't get our copy of the marriage certificate for a few months after the ceremony, but I didn't know if the certificate we get will have the date of marriage as the date of our actual ceremony. This may seem like a weird question, but we bought a house this year and need to be married by 12/31/09 in order to take advantage of the new home buyers' tax credit! Thanks.
