Wafflesmom Moon Palace Planning Thread - January 23, 2016

Recommended Posts

I felt terrible asking to change my ring. I couldn't imagine asking to use my ex's diamond cause it was bigger. Just when you think you've seen or heard it all, you really haven't ;)

Thanks @@Danielle1! I'm sure you know most of my decor inspirations since you've helped me come up with some of them ;)

Legal or Symbolic:

Since our travel was the week of January 19-26, we had to pick our wedding date. I know that we’re out of the norm but Derrick and I both agreed that we wanted a legal ceremony. We knew the drawbacks from having a legal ceremony (blood test, translation, cost) but we didn’t care. For us, we only wanted to do it once and have it be witnessed by our family. . Plus, one of my best friends had a legal ceremony in Mexico and she reassured us that it wasn’t too bad. Since we’re having a legal ceremony, we have to be there 3 full days before the wedding. So that’s how we ended up with a wedding date of January 23, 2016.

Since our travel agent is a destination wedding specialist, she not only did the travel arrangement in terms of liaising with Air Transat for our group package, she also liaised with Moon Palace to solidify the wedding contract. Being a Pro Palace Agent, she knew the Canadian Rep and easily had him draft the wedding contract to secure our date. We had her arrange the deposit and without any headaches, we were booked!

Wedding Vision:

Right away, our travel agent forwarded me all of the Moon Palace brochures she had in her files, including the wedding locations within the resort. For us it was a no brainer, we wanted to get married on the beach. Knowing the risks (i.e. having a guy in a speedo in all of the wedding photos), we just couldn’t imagine going to Mexico and not having the idyllic beach ceremony. AND I knew I wanted the reception outdoors, perhaps in a terrace. Coming from Vancouver, we spend enough time in the Fall and Winter months inside watching the rain. We wanted to be outside in the fresh air!

So now the next decision was our wedding colours. Derrick’s sister had graciously offered to make our invitations for us. She loves crafts and she is wonderfully gifted in making cards and invitations so I didn’t hesitate in taking her up on her offer. Derrick and I had been discussing colours and while he wanted orange, I’ve always wanted pink (my favourite colour). I discussed this with his sister and she suggested coral since it was a blend of both colours. What a genius idea! I researched colour palettes for a nice colour to pair with grey. I had narrowed it down to navy or grey. I showed Derrick and he instantly chose gray. So our colours are grey and coral. These were the Pinterest boards we used for inspiration (disregard the gold on the last pic):

Yay another planning thread! I'm definitely way behind now! Will take hours to catch up when we get home!!

I love your story! I'm another online dater and Doug and I have been together nearly 14 years now. I had a lot of fun getting back on the dating bit too when I finally did and we are proof that the good ones are still out there! You just have to have some help finding them!

Your ring is beautiful and so special! Your colours are gorgeous too! Things always go so much better when you get a TA that Is helpful and it sounds like you've found a real gem!!

Looking forward to reading more!!

@Wafflesmom

Always good to see another planning thread (and from a fellow Vancouver bride, no less). I hear you on the outdoor reception. That was a must-have for me, too (barring rain that day - fingers crossed!). Your colors are gorgeous!  :)

@@TinkerSofi thank you so much. How her fiancé and now husband wasn't offended is still surprising. I was embarrassed just listening to her story lol

@@acw271011 thank you so much. I'm so happy to hear another successful online dating story. 14 years? Wow, so happy for you guys. You truly did find a good one ;)

@@vancouverpetunia thanks fellow Vancouverite! I'm really hoping for no rain, we get enough of that lol Except this summer, I'm actually hoping for a good downpour. It just doesn't feel like Vancouver with all the brown lawns and the closed trails. Plus, the smell of smoke from the forest fires was really eerie

So glad you started your planning thread! I love your dating story, but your engagement story is the cutest!

I think your colours will look amazing and how great that you were able to find a colour compromise that you're both happy with!

Yay! Glad you've started your thread too! You get married one month before me!!

I love your story! Its so cute and the whole experience from online dating, picking out the ring, to the unknown proposal will be an amazing memory for you both! I love that your ring has sentimental value too. Its cute that he wanted to incorpoate his grandmas diamonds into your ring. You must be very special to him! (obviously haha).

You've chosen a great resort. We had strongly considered the moon palace. My FI thought it looked like a super fun resort and was ready to book it. But we got nervous about the "big" resort feel. I'm glad that will work out to your advantage!

The color shceme is amazing! I had briefly considered coral. but more so love it after having already picked my color out haha. I think it will look amazing on the beach with your setting! Congratulations!!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
