Ashhtayy's Planning Thread - Azul Fives - June 7, 2016

Recommended Posts

Zazzle.com got us again!

I received an email that said they were having a 60% off flask sale that ends at midnight. I showed Mike a few and he picked one that has the text I like and a colour that goes with our wedding - shocker! ;)

Kind of a cliche gift for the best men and groomsmen but they'll make for cute photos :)

$26.95 each on for $10.78 each (US of coarse)

@ashhtayy  Ok so another thread I'm trying to get caught up on! You think you're behind??? lol Aack.... I'll never get caugt up!

First off, congrats on the new job and the new house!! Sounds like you're loving both!!

Your dress is absolutely gorgeous and looks beautiful on you!! The belt definitely makes it!! Score on the price and the alterations! Wow!

For belts, 2 suggestions:

www.lastminutebride.com  and www.preownedweddingdresses.com  Both have a pretty good selection, and even though they're US sites, the pre-owned one does have people selling stuff in canada so you might find something. Good luck!

The bridesmaid dress is beautiful too! I LOVE the colour! Have you decided on a flower colour yet to go with it? With the ocean colour in the background, your photos will be fabulous!! And the necklace will definitely pull it all together! Great deal on them too! Can't beat that!!  And another score on the flasks!! Not cliché at all but you're right - definitely cool for photos!!

You've definitely pulled a lot together in a short time! I've seen so many brides to be here at the six-month mark and the next thing you know, their wedding is around the corner so the time will definitely fly by!!!  Love that your mom texts reminders! My renewal dress was a light satin and I wasn't too hot in it at all. Granted, it was October but it was still pretty humid and the satin didn't bother me (even with the tummy sucker underneath! lol) so early June I think you'll be ok.

@@acw271011 thank you!! i miss my dress and can't wait to see it again :) appreciate the tips for belts. i haven't looked on those sites for belts but will definitely check them out.

i was nervous about the BM dresses but appreciate the kinds remarks. i love them and all the girls look great in the dress. the necklace adds that little bit of bling the outfit needs. so excited to see it all together.

i cannot believe how fast time has flown. crazy to think that soon we will be the ones leaving for our wedding. until then we'll take it one day at a time, create a solid list of to-do items and then work through it all one-by-one.

Emailed my WC at 1AM this morning and she got back to me at 5PM tonight with this information - so quick!

Posted in the Azul Fives 2015 forum but reposting here in case this helps any other AF brides-to-be.

I am hoping to buy runners and a cake table cloth from someone on here and made it my goal to get the dimensions of all the tables before she got back. Done and done. I hope they work out :)

Flask Update

Ordered on the 9th and arrived at our door on the 15th. There isn't much to them but I'm happy with how they turned. They are exactly as shown and will serve their purpose.

After shipping, the exchange rate and import charges they weren't as much of a steal as I had planned. In total we paid $142.63 CAD, so $23.77 CAD each. Not bad, not great.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions...

I had sent about 10 questions to our Wedding Designer and instead of responding to all of them she felt we should schedule a call. Maribel and I spoke from 4:30 - 5:30 last night and she filled me in on everything I needed clarification on. She was so lovely to talk to.

Dinner -

My mum and I found the menus so confusing. Really they're not but we couldn't believe you get as much food as you do. We couldn't understand why it didn't say "pick two of five options" but that's because we don't have to pick - we get it all. Because we are getting married on the Sky Deck we cannot have a plated meal. Initially we were pretty bummed but now I am grateful because it limits our decisions. We've settled on a family-style dinner. One thing I dread when going to a restaurant is having to pick one meal from 75 and luckily now it doesn't feel that way. Our options are international, mexican or italian. We're deciding between international and italian. Both options are attached.

Welcome Drink -

We picked the bellini. My fingers were crossed it was served frozen but they don't have a blender on the sky deck so no luck. Our WD said it was her favourite drink and that it is a soft pink colour. I like the idea of it matching our wedding colours lol We're going to try it the day we arrive and if for some reason we don't like it we can switch it the next day when we meet with our on-site WC.

Hor D'oeuvres -

Very confused. Way too many options. I've attached the two we are considering - mexican donkey bar and white glove service. Apparently we can mix between the two.

Timing -

Initially we were getting married at 4PM, cocktails 5PM to 6PM, pictures 5PM to 6PM, reception 6PM to 10PM and paying extra to keep the bar open until 1AM. The WD recommends switching this up - one to save costs and two to give us more mingling time with our guests.

New Plan: married at 4PM, cocktails 5PM to 7PM, pictures 5PM to 6PM then join cocktail from 6PM to 7PM, reception 7PM to 11PM and pay for only one additional hour of bar service.

Ladies, what do you think of the new plan? Any suggestions or feedback is appreciated.

GI Freebie -

Although our TA said the cocktail hour was the best value the WD says the voucher to the spa is more valuable. The spa voucher gets your hair and makeup trial, hair and makeup wedding day, mani and pedi for bride and for one other member of the bridal party. I haven't priced out spa services but once I do I'll decide where to spend the voucher.

@@snswedding2016 - what did you do? I think @@TinkerSofi took the spa voucher.

Other -

- Do we need a cake? They cost a fortune. And no way I'm subbing cupcakes in for cake - they're $7 US each. I laughed when I read that. Outrageous.

- Need to decide between bringing silk florals or purchasing from the resort.

- Waiting on DJ prices

That's it for now. The ball is rolling :)

Glad you got some info!

Personally I think a 2 hour cocktail hour is too long. We had an hour and by the end I think everyone was thankful it was over lol. Maybe it would depend if there was music and lots of seating for people -- do they have to stand? We had a mariachi band too but like I said people seemed restless by the end.

I personally would probably take the spa voucher too!! That stuff is also super pricey.

We didn't have desserts with our meal so I really wanted the cake. I didn't pay for mine though. Not only was it nice for pictures but we did eat the entire thing. It was like an evening snack. We ate dinner around 530/600 ish and cake around 815!

Good luck! It will all work out great!

You're making me hungry Italian menu sounds amazing and I am cracking up that you can have canapés passed around by a white gloved waiter and a donkey at the same time. Hee haw.

@@ashhtayy I decided to get the spa credit instead of the cocktail hour. It wasn't really important for me to have a formal cocktail hour especially since the bars will be open, we were planning on just setting up an informal cocktail hour by letting all of our guests know which bar to meet at. We also have a bunch of kids coming and we thought some families might want to take a break and go back to the room etc. I also knew that I wanted hair and make up from the spa for sure so that made the choice easier.

We only set aside 1 hour for cocktails but that's more to do with the fact that we only have our photographers until the beginning of our reception (we have a smaller package) so we couldn't really afford to push it back and further.

Sean and I are not really into cake...we love dessert but cake isn't really our thing plus I agree they are super expensive at AF. I always find at weddings I eat the dessert that comes with the meal and never eat the wedding cake. We decided to just go with the dessert that comes with our meal. Totally personal preference though.  :)

I also find the prices for the flowers at AF to be too expensive. I went with real touch flowers but it all depends on how important they are to you. Some people need to have fresh flowers but on the other hand the plus side of real touch is that you can bring them home and they'll last forever. If you want the name of the vendor I used for real touch, let me know. She's based out of Toronto but unfortunately you can't go and pick up the order - I tried to avoid shipping costs but couldn't get around it. She did a really nice job with my bouquet.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Can't believe I'm leaving soon!! Also let me know if you have any questions you want answered while we're there.  :) Looks like things are really moving forward with your plans!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
