How Long Before To Legally Get Married If Doing Symbolic

Recommended Posts

Question we live in Texas and are planning on legally getting married 2 weeks before our wedding in cancun. I know texas only has 3 day waiting period after obtain license to get married. But how long after do we get the marriage certificate? What if we don't get it in time how do we prove to hotel that we were married so we qualify for the honeymoon package?

Is there not a website for the court house or wherever you get your marriage license that you can check for information? I know nothing about the processes in Texas so can't help out, but maybe there is another bride to be here that can help. Or take a look and see if there is a website.

Good luck!!

@@misbosox - If you are getting married at the resort, even if symbolic, that should be sufficient for the honeymoon package. We are not bringing our marriage license; we just automatically get the honeymoon package. That would be crazy if you went through all of that with the resort and still had to show a legal marriage license!

I live in Texas and we filed for our marriage license 2 weeks ago. You have a period of 90 days (from when you filed) to get legally married. We are doing a symbolic ceremony in Mexico (I call it a ring and vow exchange) and we are getting legally wed two days before we leave. I hope that helps!

Oh they also told me...the officiant (or whoever marries you guys) will mail in the marriage license. It said it should take a couple of business days for the courthouse to file your marriage license before they return it back to you.

How nice to see 2 other brides from Texas :) I just filed for our licencse. In my opinion (moved here about one year ago) Texas is very effecient so I am not too worried about the marriage license. Mexico has nvr mentioned having an actual document.. I nvr thought to ask that. I will def ask wedding coordinaotr and get it in writing. Good luck brides!

@@BecomingaRiggio We are getting married at Moon Palace in Cancun on June 23. We are doing our courthouse ceremony on June 5th. I know for the marriage licence there is a waiting period for getting married I think its 3 days after you get your licence then you can get married.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
