Flying With Rings

Recommended Posts

Ok so I have traveled a ton thus far in life and I know the do's and don'ts of luggage and all of that. Any time I have travelled with jewelry I have been wearing it.

Our wedding bands??

I get it, the pocket, the purse, the carry on etc.

But I've also heard stories of people getting things taken right out of their carry on without catching it during routine luggage check, right in front of them.

Has anyone just bit the bullet and wore your wedding rings until you got to your destination and then securely (hopefully) locked them into your lock box?

Thoughts? Experience?

We had planned to do this up until the morning of and it just went into my bag and didn't cross my mind. Thankfully we were ok -- my bag was done up and went thru the xray machine that way so I would have seen them open it. I get the fear though but it's that fear with everything - visa, iPhone, iPad, camera, etc. Etc.

I don't think it's taboo to wear them and if that makes you more comfortable I would do it :)

@@LisaAnthonyPoppy, I never even thought about this, we were planning on just having it in our carry-on. Sorry for my ignorance but who would confiscate it? Border officials from which side? These are important things to be aware of so thanks for asking this question!

I read it more as theft than confiscation.

@@calgarybride2015 theft at the airport in Mexico? I've never even thought about this.

Anywhere really.

I've never had a problem. It's no different than any valuable really. My electronics cost way more than our rings. It would suck to lose anything.

I was more nervous having them in our safe than our carry on lol but both were fine.

Do what you feel comfortable with.

My FI and I have had this discussion, and we both agree that we feel more comfortable wearing them until we get to the resort. I would constantly be checking my bag to make sure they were still there. Better for us to just wear them down, and know they are not going anyway. This is the stress free way for us, even if it isn't the traditional way for others.

Yes, theft that can happen anywhere. And it happens. Anything small that could have potential value regardless of actual value could be subjected. Your carry on is being searched as standard procedure sfb they see a ring box, next thing you know your being waved over to get patted down or wand do they can take what they want.

Not sure how often this can happen but I surely don't want it too.

I don't feel weird wearing my rings for the trip, I just don't want the new feeling to not be there when we place them on each other's hands.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
