Tinkersofi's Planning Thread - Azul Fives August 13, 2015

Love them!!!!  where did you get them??  How much were they??  So tropical and pretty!

I got them off ebay here:

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/361000819749?var=630338980358&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

They were around $3.50 each. They had a sale where they'd give you 10%off every second one you got but I'm not sure if they still have it. With the exchange rate I ended up paying about $100, the shipping was free and there were no custom fees :D

@@TinkerSofi I love the sarongs! And if they're silky, even better :)

I don't know why I didn't realize they were silky when I opened the first one. I guess I was too excited haha. I think some of them are silkier than others. The nice thing is that they are silky without being shiny, so they're perfect for the beach

I tried on my dress again today and I every time I'm just like "wow, I look great in this" hahah. I guess that's when you know you got the right one :). I'm starting to think about hair and accessories.

Hair

I definitely know I want an updo. I'm a huge fan of half up half down hairstyles and originally that's what I was going to go for, but then I started thinking about how hot it is over there in August, even at night. To that I need to add the wind at the terrace and the sweat of me partying too hard haha (ew?). Basically I will end up looking like a hot mess if my hair is down. I know the hair on my back will bug me and I will end up putting it up in a lame ponytail. So updo it is! I will probably end up looking like a hot mess anyway, but my hair with humidity turns into a lion's mane and that's definitely not the look I'm going for hahah.

I thought I wanted a hair comb for my updo and had found a couple of faves on etsy. Then I went into David's bridal and tried on a few hair accessories. I decided that a headband is the way to go. Even my friends call me the headband lady haha because according to them they look really good on me :). I had bought this headband at Forever XXI a couple of months back. I only wore it for New Years and today when I tried on my dress I made like a "mock updo" (mock is another word for crappy haha) with it. I decided it looked good so that's what I'm going to wear instead of spending $120 on the one I liked at David's Bridal.

Jewellery

I had seen this etsy store a while back and saved a few things but today I think I'm ready to pull the trigger haha. I'm only wearing earrings and a bracelet because I feel like my dress is busy enough with all the embroidery. I knew I needed something like pearls if i were to have a bracelet because I was afraid that if I got one with crystals that it would snag my dress (a tulle skirt).

Tackling the to do list:

by the way @ thanks for the whiteboard idea. We've been using it and I love that the fiance has access to it from home. It makes it a lot easier to communicate. For those that don't know what's going on, veryvalero has her own planning thread and she uses a board to put stickies of things on the to do list, that way both her fiance and her can tackle things and take things off the list. My fiance and I don't live in the same house, which sometimes makes it a bit hard when it comes to planning and keeping each other in the loop.  She suggested this website www.realtimeboard.com so we make sticky notes of things to get done and my fiance can log in and see/edit it as well :D. Very useful indeed.

Beautiful. I agree that the headband looks great :)

Ps - you will not for one Milli second regret an updo. My hair would have no held had I have done the curled style I once thought I would.

That's a beautiful headband, I wouldn't have guessed that it's not from a bridal store! And I agree that an updo will have the most staying power for the whole day. I've seen beautiful long curly hair at beachweddings and I'm always in awe of how beautiful it looks but that's from a single pic. Knowing me, my hair will probably stick to my sweaty neck which would not look great in pics!

And that jewellery with the headband is a great combo :)

Thanks, I think it will look better than the one I had seen at David's Bridal because it's simpler. I'm a pretty small person so I never like wearing too many things at once :)

I agree about the hair, and MOH #2 said she will get an updo as well for the same reason :D

I know right? The nice curly hair probably last until the party begins I'm guessing, but I still want to look somewhat presentable after that haha.

Thanks. I kept searching for other jewellery to see if I liked anything else more but I can't, so I guess that's a sign that I'm ready to commit :D

@@TinkerSofi I love your hair piece and what a steal that is!! I would totally do an updo and they look so nice, but I hate my hair up for some reason. I'm probably going to end up with flat hair by the end of the night haha.

thanks! I thought about the headband for the legal ceremony here, but once I tried it with the dress I decided it looked quite nice :)

I don't think there's such a thing as flat hair in Mexico! haha. Some brides look great all night without having their hair up, unfortunately I don't think that will be my case. I have tons of pretty thick hair and it goes all frizzy in humidity haha, not a pretty picture :P

I'm sorry for being so MIA this week. Let's just say TGIF haha. I've been sick this whole week (and still am) but had so much work that couldn't call in sick. I don't get paid if I don't work, so I kept thinking every morning "think of the amount of wedding things you can pay off if you work today!" hahaha. The strategy worked pretty well but i'm glad I can rest now ;). As a reward to myself today, I bought something for the guestbook.

Guestbook:

I really had, and to some degree still have, no idea what to do for a guest book. One thing was clear, if there's one thing I hate at weddings is staring at the blank page of a guest book wondering what to write. I'm so not creative when it comes to writing that it is almost torturous for me. In the end I always end up writing the same thing and I hate it because the message doesn't express my true happiness for the couple. I mean, I might as well just write my name, considering how bad my messages are haha. I definitely didn't want to put my guests through something that I personally hate doing.

My first idea was having a polaroid guest book. One of my best friends had this at her wedding and I loved it. Someone would take a picture as guests arrived and you could write a message at the bottom. This idea is not totally scratched out. My friend still has the camera and she said I could borrow it. I just need to get the film.

Then I thought about doing a DIY photobooth! I love these things but can't afford to pay someone, so it has to be DIY. I'll post more on what I have planned for this later. I thought I could combine the photo booth with the polaroid guest book. Then I saw how much film is for a polaroid camera and I obviously can't afford to buy 100 of them. I thought that some people will hog the machine while others don't get to take a picture before the film runs out. If I have a digital camera set up for the photo booth (which is now the plan), people won't be able to sign them, so I made the decision that these two things need to be separate.

So that brings me to the third point. I thought, if I don't do the picture thing, then what? I saw this on pinterest and I thought they would be pretty cool.

Basically people won't have to stare at a blank sheet of paper and they can fill out any of the lines they want :)

At any rate, despite which way I decide (because Juan said he's basically fine with either choice), I needed somewhere to put the final product. Which finally brings me to what I bought today! haha. I found this box at Home sense. The writing has advice for life, I guess you could call it, like "enjoy the little things" and I thought it would be perfect. It also has a vintage feel which goes with the wedding. It was only $6 :), and I can use it to store some of the the more fragile things to bring down to Mexico, such as some of the center piece flowers.

What do you guys think is better? the polaroid idea or the pamphlet with message cues? or maybe both, since polaroids tend to fade with time? Do you think having a polaroid guest book and a photo booth is kind of redundant?

At home reception

Ok, so this isn't an AHR, more like a mother land reception haha. Since none of my extended family in Argentina will be able to come due to financial reasons, my parents are paying for a family get together for us over there. Juan isn't close to is extended family, so that's why we're not having anything in Colombia.

I just bought our flights this week. Yay!! We're leaving on December 26 and spending New Years over there. I'm really excited because I haven't been in 3 years, it will actually be 4 by the time we go, and my whole family will be there. It is tough for all of us to go at the same time and as the family grows it becomes more and more difficult, so I'm going to enjoy every single moment. Juan has never been to Argentina so I'm excited for him to see where I come from and for him to meet my grandparents and the rest of my extended family.

Now, it's time to start looking for locations to have this party. I've seen a bunch of places online, some of them are probably too expensive, but I think this one might be around our price range and a friend said that she went to a wedding there and it was good. The page is in Spanish but at least you can see the pictures :)

So your guestbook!! I love the idea of a photo booth and I love the idea of a sheet to be filled out... I did this for my friend at her destination wedding in Vegas! I took pics of everyone in the photbooth and then had them fill out a sheet I had made with questions like... What was your favourite part of the trip? What is your one wish for the couple? How many children should they have? Boys name girls name? When you are married you should always.... Or you should never..... I can't remember the rest right now.

Once I got home I scanned the sheet and created a photo book for her with photo book Canada .. I had a groupon... One page had a picture of a person or couple and the opposite page had their message.... At then end I put in all the random photo booth pics in a heart shape collage ... She loved it!! The pics were so fun and the info sheets where all different and funny. I might repeat it for my wedding... Maybe

I can send you an example tomorrow if you want I'm in bed right now :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
