Pre-Wedding Mailer & When To Send Invites

Recommended Posts

Hi all, haven't been on here for a few months. Starting to get back into the planning swing again. My save the dates have been sent out, and I just ordered my invitations. The site we were looking at for the invitations had a 30% off sale for black Friday so we jumped and ordered them super early. The wedding is still about 7 months away.

I read that for traditional weddings you send out invites about 6-8wks before the wedding, and that for destination weddings you send them much earlier. How early? 3 months?

And did anyone do a pre-wedding mailer to the guests that RSVP? I was thinking of sending maps or information about the island.

Thanks!!

you can.  We sent our RSVP out really early about 10 mths prior to the wedding with info of our wedding website.  That way our guests could have an idea of how much to save.   I just sent out our invitations this month for our wedding in June - so 6 months prior.   The reason I sent mine so early is because by march they have to have 50% deposit down and soon after that if we need to release room blocks without penalty

Hey!

I didn't do STDs and just sent out our invites 8 months in advance. They had 90 days to pay their deposit. After final payment was due I sent out our pre travel mailers which was about 2 months in advance - I waited as we had people drop out inbetween. This worked well for us - you can see my pre-travel items in my planning thread (link below) but it was a brochure and a luggage tag.

What date is your RSVP deadline? Also do you have a booking deposit deadline with your TA? (I made my dates both the same). I would definately send your invites out before this date as it will serve as a reminder to book and give them some time/notice.

I would personally send your invites sooner than later as 7 months isn't all that far away :)

Hope that helps!!

Our wedding is July 10th and the last date before we have to release rooms through our travel agent is April 15th, it is also when the room has to be paid in full. We made the RSVP date April 1st just so there was wiggle room for the procrastinators and are mailing the invites out towards the end of January/beginning of February. That was it gives people time to book and figure out how to have it all paid for.

Well I guess I screwed this up :( just checked with my travel agent and last day to pay is May 7th and when I ordered the invitations I set the RSVP deadline at June 1st. Hopefully this doesn't confuse people!

@@jsparrow10 I see you are from Akron. I live not for from there near Cleveland. And go to school in Kent. Small world :)

We aren't even doing invitations! We sent out electronic STDs in August for our June wedding and we'll continue to send email reminders and information to our invitees. We're just trying to keep things simple and, with only a couple exceptions, our invitees are savvy enough to use our website.

So, I think you can do whatever you want!  ;)

We did our RSVP/formal invites at the same time as our booking deadline.... And then will send out pre-travel mailers to everyone once final payments are made. The website will keep everyone up to date with information between that time.

My wedding reservations are so confusing. I am the 1% of people on this board that is doing a cruise wedding...getting married in Bermuda. So half of my guests are taking the cruise, and the other half are booking on the island and both have different deadlines. I'm hoping that it was okay picking June 1st as the RSVP deadline. I'm pretty sure people would know if they are going or not by then.

Need to start researching how to make up my pre-travel mailers! I plan on sending a luggage tag and map of Bermuda, but I need to design some sort of brochure. I'm not that good at designing...hopefully it works out! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
