Hello. I'm new to tala talk. I posted a question but got one reply to search the forums.

I'm planning a DW for May, 2015.

I've met w a travel agent and have been reading forums.

I can't find anything on Westin Lagunamar Cancun for wedding experiences. How was it ? Any advise?

Welcome,

I did a quick search on the Westin resort you mentioned above and noone has reviewed this resort. It doesn't seem many people have even posted about it - so not sure how to help you there.

Otherwise I agree about searching the resorts you are considering because there are threads on them and you will learn sooooo much from past brides.   Also the board here in general will give you a lot of ideas for your wedding.

Congrats!

New Bride here!  Well we have been engaged for almost a year, but the wedding planning is still just starting....again.  I originally wanted a destination wedding but after discussing it with my parents (who are paying) it changed to a Chicago wedding, until they realized it would be at least $20,000 with a miserable daughter/bride planning it all! So back to the drawing board.

Unfortunately I think I lost all my excitement for the wedding.  I am having a hard time keeping track of different resorts and pricing and am getting depressed by the thought of my wedding, which, of course makes me sadder! AH!

We want to have it on the beach.  Mexico-Mayan Riviera (would like to see ruins) or Hawaii.  About 20-30 people.  Beautiful?  Easiest?  Affordable?  Am I crazy? I need some help.  I would like the wedding ceremony/reception/my parents flights/ my parents hotel stay all for under $10,000.  Is that possible????

Any responses would be appreciated.  We haven't set a date, waiting to find the resort!

Hi @goldammarpayne. I'm in Chicago, too, and $20k for a wedding here would be a total STEAL. My friends who got married in the city paid upwards of $50k, which to me is just absolutely insane. I think it is completely possible to do what you describe for 20-30 people for $10,000! We are expecting probably 50 people for our wedding in Jamaica and our budget is $15,000, including our travel, my dress, photography, etc. While we really wanted to get married when the weather is horrible in Chicago, prices were much more expensive January through Easter, so I would avoid those months to save money if you can.

The good thing is most all inclusive resorts make it really easy on you with on-site planners who work with you on all the details. (And this site will help you get a lot of questions answered.) You can make it as simple or complicated as you want. We aren't doing a bridal party and we're bringing pretty minimal decorations to keep it easy.

I've been to a few resorts in Mexico. We really liked RIU Palace Riviera Maya and my sister got married at Catalonia Riviera Maya, which was a very affordable option. But definitely browse around the forums here and you'll get some great ideas. Have you reached out to a travel agent yet? They can definitely help you narrow down your options!

Also, I completely empathize with NOT being excited about your wedding. I actually had a meltdown just this weekend and tried to convince my fiance that we should skip it all and just elope. (He laughed at me! Ha.) We've had a series of crappy things happen since we got engaged last December and I guess that is probably why, and I'm just hoping as we get closer to the date I'll get more excited. I better!

Thank you Becky!  I will check out Catalonia for sure!  This forum is a godsend, and although I have been a lurker taking the plunge into posting will hopefully help me get organized :)

Yes, the $20k chicago wedding was for a backyard wedding, needless to say it was more than what I wanted to spend for one day of incredible stress! The $4,700 tent quote was what killed it.

I hope you get more excited too!!

Does anyone have a travel agent they would recommend?  I'll keep looking!

I think it's hard to go wrong with the Riviera Maya, but I might be biased since that's where mine is :)  All of our guests have been SHOCKED at how affordable it is, especially those who haven't been on a "tropical" vacation before, and still lots of history and activities, and travel (from Cleveland, at least) has always been a piece of cake.  My resort is the Now Jade--beautiful, affordable, and AWESOME food (we've visited several times).  I'd definitely recommend it!

Hello!

I'm marrying at the Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya and my wedding for 46 on the private beach and reception in the private palapa is about $5200.

After our booking bonuses with the airline our package for 7 nights (flight/hotel/transfers/tax) for 2 adults and 2 kids was $3100 (was $5100) so with that said I think $10,000 is very doable.

If you want more info on the resort let me know. Good luck.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
