I think it will really depend on the location of your destination wedding as well and the time of year you're going. My FI and I originally wanted to go to Antigua for the wedding because the FI's family is from there. We wanted a November wedding, but during that time, only 1 airline flew down there, and made the prices ridiculous. Close to $2000/person!!! So we changed the location and got a much better rate since Mexico is so much more common than Antigua, there are so many options. Good luck :)

Yep I know what you mean! But we were totally set on Antigua and it didn't matter.

I know the other places are cheaper, but we are going to make a day trip over to Montserrat where my FI is from :)

Last time we were there was 2005, so his family there has never met our kids!

Killing 2 birds with 1 stone!

I'm glad that you guys can make it there. I would've loved it, but even my FI didn't want to go back to Antigua for the wedding. We're on a tight budget and it would've been hard for his family in Antigua to come on the resort to attend the wedding anyways. So we decided to change. We were just at Jolly Beach this past September (2012) so we've promised we would go back to visit sometime after the wedding. But after the FI comes back to Hong Kong with me to meet my family. LOL

Oh that's awesome that you were just at Jolly Beach! How did you like it???

Yea the day pass for people to come on the resort is $97. Not cheap! But even harder for his family from Montserrat to come to the wedding, because they have to take the ferry, plus find somewhere in Antigua to stay. So no one from there is coming.

Hong Kong would be awesome! Have Fun!

Another Ontario bride here!  I too have had difficulty determining how to get the best price for my guests.  I talked to a TA right after we got engaged (May 2012), and what she was quoting me seemed WAY too high.  I waited a bit before I contacted someone else and she suggested that for better pricing I wait until closer to the date before booking - which has been quite difficult.  I just want to start planning this wedding!  I still haven't decided on a place and am getting stressed!  I have an appointment with a TA again on Monday and I am hoping it is going to go well.  I am glad that I am not the only one going through this!

Yeah.. $97 may not seem like a lot at first, but it adds up when there's so many of them. Plus, $97USD is a lot to the locals. My FI's cousin actually owns a business that does wedding ceremony and receptions on her property.. but it wasn't on the beach and it would cost everyone else money to get off the resort and go there, so there was no way to please everyone.

Jolly Beach was quiet when I was there. It was really low season (September) so it was not bad. There are so many birds everywhere though, which I'm sure you've experienced before. I saw a couple getting married at the gazebo at Jolly Beach while we were there, which was a reason why I didn't choose it either. It was too public, right over the pool, so all other guests can be watching from the pool in their bathing suits. The beach location was public (since all beaches in Antigua are public) so again, not private enough for my preference. But the resort staff was great and I liked the resort. LOVED the Indian a-la-carte there, and loved that it was so close to Jolly Harbor so we walked out to take the local busses all the time to All-Saints to see his family and go to the supermarket at Jolly Harbor to get junk food.

Where are you planning on going?

Playa del Carmen/Playacar - we have gotten lots of quotes but they are way too high. It doesnt make sense that groups have to wait for the best pricing, you'd think they'd offer you incentives for booking so far out in advance.

Oh well!! It seems things have worked out for everyone else here and I just need to be patient :)

Yeah. Seems like you dont actually get much of a discount for group rates.....only like $100 off or like a free flight after every 10-20 people. You think it would be better than that! Im still worried about pricing too.

Seeing travel agent on Saturday and hopefully I can figure some stuff out...like where to go!! lol

I cannot recommend this TA enough! I was referred to her by a coworker who used her for her own DW. She is very quick in responding to my emails and is very patient, knowledgeable. She is out of Burlington but since we only talk through email/phone her location doesnt matter.  We are still working on quotes but she listens to what we want and offers valuable advice.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
