We decided on a DW bc we've lived in so many places that our guests will have to travel no matter where we set the venue. When we decided, I spoke to the girls I knew I wanted to share in my day, and I asked them to be bridesmaids in my 2014 DW. My sister was thrilled to be MOH bc her hubby loves fishing. My best friend from HS cried and said she wouldn't miss it for the world. My other long-time friend started immediately planning my bachelorette party on a red eye to vegas. Um, really?? I tactfully told her that's not exactly what we had in mind and our style is a but more subdued, like maybe spending a night at a local casino to catch a show and just have co-ed fun with both sides of the wedding party. Then when I told her we wanted to get married away, she immediately said there was no way she could afford to be there if we had a DW. I wanted her to be able to come with us, so I told her there are sometimes deals through travel agents and she might end up with a reduced cost or even free trip. Since then, I've text her repeatedly asking for her to call me or at least give me her address so I can get the engagement party invite mailed out. She's called exactly once to tell me she met someone new and she's in love. She actually said, "who knows? I might get married before you do!" While I'd love to think she's found her soul mate, I'm put off by her Vegas idea and I'm worried that if she comes to the wedding at all, let alone as a BM, she'll expect the spotlight. I regret asking her to be in my wedding but she's been a great friend up until I mentioned it. Is there a nice way to ask her to step down? Maybe I should tell her she will have to pay full price on her trip and the dresses I picked are very expensive? I don't want to hurt her feelings but now when I picture my wedding day, I can't see her standing next to me... :-(

Maybe she will back down on her own since she says she's unable to afford the cost of the trip.  I don' t know how to tactfully ask her to step down.  It's going to probably be an awkward conversation.

There are so many great ideas on here and I am happy to say I'm a 2014 bride as well! We've decided on the Dreams Puerto Vallarta in October! We have been to the Deams Cancun and loved it, and I completely trust this brand of resorts - which is why I feel so comfortable with it. My brother and sister-in-law went to Secrets Myan Riviera for their honeymoon last year, and they loved that location as well. For anyone still searching, you can't go wrong with a Secrets or Dreams (at least in my opinion!)

I did see that a few of you have chosen Paridisius Punta Cana as your location - We went there on a trip last year and it was a beautiful resort, so you are making a great decision! The food was awesome, the staff was friendly, and the scenery was gorgeous. We especially loved the fact that there was so much plush greenery and the jungle like atmosphere all around. If any of you have any questions about this resort (or the Dreams Cancun), PM me, I can tell you what I know.

I am going to be doing a lot of DIY myself - invites, OOT bags, decorations, everything!. I have already done my bridesmaid boxes, that I need to take pictures of so I can share. I am slightly obsessed with them and I wish I had made one for myself! Pics to come...

I am going to do all my stationary myself too (I am in marketing, so I have experience with graphic design..). My first project was the save the date. I am going with a mix of varying corals, blushes and a hint of light seafoam green as my colors....what do you think?!

These are wonderful.  Welcome to the board!  My colors are almost the same the woman who made my save the dates said seafoam I said mint I guess I'm not good with colors..lol.. Can't wait to see your bridesmaid boxes.  I wish I had more DIY talents gonna try at something though..

I wanted to hear from you all on your "timeline" for save the dates, invites and RSVP request, etc. I want to send mine early, but also fear that sending too early might cause people to lag/forget...

My original thinking for an October 2014 wedding was

Save the Date: July 2013

Invites: October 2013

RSVP request by date: January 2014

I am having a fight with myself right now, because I want to get everything out early to give people enough time to plan their vacations, and get responses back early to give me enough time to plan. However (and I very well could be over thinking things) I fear that sending the invites too early and giving too much time to RSVP will make people lag because they think they have enough time to think about it and then they will forget. So I guess my concerns are: is a year invite too far in advance? and is allowing 3-4 months to long? (coincidentally is asking for RSVPs almost 8 months in advance too soon)?

LOL tell me if I am crazy and thinking too much about this!!

I know destination weddings aren't following traditional timelines/rules by any means, so just looking to see how you ladies are solving this!

Wedding date is May 2, 2014

We sent out our Save the Dates May 2013 although we talked about a DW a year ago with friends/family we wanted to make it official and give them at least a year to plan.

Invites: not sure still trying to decide on DIY or purchase but trying to make up mind quickly thinking of maybe send out November December..RSVP around end of January or beginning of February.  I don't think your crazy. DW do follow different timelines so it'll be nice to see what everyone else is doing.

I had nothing to do this weekend and loved just lounging by myself doing wedding stuff (with a glass of wine of course) I had so much fun! HA

ha ha ha ofcourse a glass of wine...  did you check out the binder thread and cocktail thread?

The only thing I have to do is print wedding signage, menus, and escort cards. I'm not mailing invitations because all 50 of my guests have booked their rooms so no need to waste money or allocate it towards a photo booth! I must admit I may have an unfair advantage because I'm a wedding planner!!!

WOW!! 90% DONE!!! I AM WAAAAYYY BEHIND!!

We are starting early. Been looking and looking for the perfect song to walk with my dad down the isle to marry the love of my life. I found the song. "They Fell in Love."  Here is a video of  it, I love how they both stand at the top and wait for the violins to start. It's very moving. The music gives you time to hug your dad and for my love to shake my dad's hand. Ahhhhhh.  I saw the tears in the crowd. Those violins just move me and are going to move my guest as well. I downloaded it and it sounds AMAZING vs the video.  It's that perfect moment with the perfect music. here is the youtube video

and where you can buy it.  http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/christineborgeld     I wish you all the best with finding the music for your day.  HUGS and I wish you the best of love and luck.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
