OkayI have to vent.. FB is a terrible thing. lol.. My fiance's best friend and wife said they could not attend our wedding due to not wanting to travel with their children and didn't want to leave them home.. I just got on FB and see that one of them posted that they are all set for their trip to Punta Cana in October. This is totally random as they never mentioned to us they were planning a trip to the same place as our wedding location. I didn't want to tell my fiance bc he really wanted this person to be his best man, but understood the travel fee's and children. I'm just totally blown away at the moment.

        Hello Ladies,

We LOOOVE signature cocktails and sorry if I don't have the names or ingredients but I really liked these ideas and wanted to share them with you all:

Ooooh sounds tasty!! Margs are a good idea since we'll be in Mexico as well. One of our colors is blue so maybe we could just add blue curacao. We tried making a few different drinks tonight and they were good but they weren't WOW! So we'll keep trying. Oh shooooot more drink tastin for us

There's no shuch thing as "off topic" in the May 2013 Thread, that's what make us so great!

I will actaully have two signature cocktails to represent both of my colors, chartreuse and sangria. The first will be a pomegranate mojito and I want to think of a name for this, The second one I found online and purchased all the ingredients to test it out...love it! It's called "Lucky in Love" and uses honeydew melon, mint, lime juice, cointreau, vanilla vodka and champagne. I want to experiment a bit with the ingredients because I don't really want two mint drinks.

Wow, there's a slap to the face.  I'm sorry that you and Alex have to deal with this disappointment. It sucks that they couldn’t be upfront and honest with the two of you.   Destination weddings will show the best and, unfortunately the worse in people and really tests the strength of your relationships. In the end, those that truly love and support you will be there and that’s all that matters.  Your day will be amazing and it’s their loss if they choose to not be a part of it.

Thanks Tova for responding. He's been friends with this guy for 7 years and lived together for 4. I have only met the wife a few times so I wasn't too concerned, but I know alex wanted this guy to be his best man. It was just a totally slap in the face to him I feel like. And even worse, they had never even heard of Punta Cana until we chose it for our DW. From what I heard this guy told some friends he was going to our wedding no matter what bc he couldn't miss his best friend getting married. So I'm guessing the spuratic trip was determined by the wife. I talked to Alex and he is making excuses for them and saying he understands, but you can tell he is soo upset. Maybe if they would have picked a different location I would be set a ease a smidge more but not the same exact location. It just seems soo wrong on soo many levels.

But you are totally right, the ones that truly love us and support us will be there, and that is truly all that matters. :o)

Whaaat?? Sounds like the type of people that you wouldn't want involved in your wedding anyways. They don't sound very honest or dependable. I think you should let you FI know the truth since obviously they weren't honest with you in the first place. You wouldn't want him to find out and feel like he was the last to know. And you can bring it up to him with out throwing anyone under the bus and let him come to his own conclusion. I'm sorry! That is a tough pill to swallow

It is interesting how people's true colors really do come out when it comes to weddings and, in particular, destination weddings.  My former best friend (she has become a former best friend through this process) told me right after getting engaged, "you better not be doing a destination wedding."  Then, we picked a date and place and she goes, "I guess I will have to come by myself and it will be so expensive because [her now fiance] may have job by then and probably wont be able to get off of work."  BTW, this was Jan 2012 and I still don't think he has a job.  Then, we change the date because we wanted to find a cheaper date (it was like $100 cheaper per person to switch from April to May for a three night package), and she goes "I can't go.  I will have finals then."  She hadn't even gotten into law school by then!   So long story short: I no longer consider her a friend.  I don't mind if people can't make it because of a legitimate excuse: (1) money; (2) illness; (3) what not.  But, she was looking for an excuse not to come.  And, after all of this, she got engaged and of course is going on a super expensive honeymoon to Mauritius and Tanzania around the same time as my wedding.

My point of this story is (1) we will all find out who our true friends are and (2) we have to do what is best for us, which is a destination wedding.  I am truly not that sad about the loss of her as a friend.  Instead, I am so happy about finding my true friends - the ones that told me "what are you doing looking at venues in the U.S., we know you have always wanted a destination wedding."  They knew me better than I knew myself.

OH MY.. :o( It's sad to see things like this happen with our own people that we consider best friends, or even fmaily. I'm very sorry to hear what happened in your situation with her being soo flaky. Def not a true best friend and I'm glad you were able to find your true friends in the process!  I too totally understand the money issues, and I wont ask anyone of their financials, if they want to be there, then I will be overjoyed and very appreciative. I'd rather them tell me they are sorry and the honest reason why they can't/don't want to come. For all I care they could say they don't want to save up and spend that kind of money for a place we chose. I just hate to hear everyone fall back on the excuse of "we can't afford it that kind of thing" when they have had well over a years notice.

I've suggested to my friends who want to honestly come, to save $100 a week from their paychecks. My FI and I have done this and we have come up with soo much money soo fast. Booked our travels $3011, Photog $2600, My Dress, $1000 and the best part we haven't even missed the money.
