Asking guests to adhere to a dress code for wedding?

Recommended Posts

Hi, we are getting married next week in Cancun with a guest list of 40 people, and we did it! We just sent out enough warning, and asked everyone to wear some sort of casual white. We explained that it could be beige, white, off white, linen, kackie, and even prints just with a white back ground. We haven't gotten one complaint yet!

If you want, pm me and i can let you read our email letter along with the welcome letter we just mailed out.

Good luck... I say do it!

Leigh

I'm going to go against the grain on this one. Personally, I wouldn't like the fact that I'm being told (or politely asked) what to wear. Is it more important that your guests are all uniform or that your guests are comfortable? The way I see it is your guests are paying $1000+ for your wedding (and vacation) you shouldn't ask them to go out and buy specific clothes for this occasion.

Not trying to start an argument, just pointing out the other side. :) Either way, good luck with whatever you choose.

I see both sides. Cuz the pics do look nice with all the same shades, however, I LOVE color! But I am not sure how I would feel if someone told me I HAD to wear a certain thing. It is hard enough to find something that looks good, let alone put a restraint on what color guests should buy as well. So personally, I am all about color in my wedding, and I probably wouldn't be thrilled to be told to wear white or tan, but I would do it, cuz like someone else said you'd "stick out like a sore thumb" among all the other white/tan wearing guests!

I asked my guests to wear white or beige dress for women and white guayaberas for men.. some of them complained, some didn't do it.. but most of them did it and the pictures look great.. well I like how it looks..

We talked about this last night and both Tom and one of my BM's think it's not a good idea for us since we are having a large guest list attend the wedding. So, majority rules and I'll just ask that they wear "beach chic" -- no shorts or t-shirts ...

I felt this way originally when i'd see weddings where all the guest are in white. It thought I would be annoyed if told to dress a certain way just so they have good pictures. I don't want to feel like a decoration, but more like a guest.

But, after seeing several people's wedding albums, I thought maybe it's fun for the guests, too. I enjoy going to black & white new years parties etc. It's also fun at a football game when you are all in team colors. And it's not just the wedding pictures that will look cool, but also the guests snap shots. So they might enjoy the theme just as much.

I think including beiges makes a big difference too. Most people have khaki pants, but not white pants. I also think saying "everyone where yellow" would be too much. Anything that most people would have to shop specifically for may be asking too much. But just about everyone has something neutral.

    • Hi all, My younger sister is 5 months carrying. She is suffering from hearing loss now. She was perfectly alright before she got conceived. But once she got conceived her hearing ability started getting reduced. Is it quite common now? What would be the reason for hearing loss during the pregnancy period? After scanning the doctor said that the baby is underweight. Since she is suffering from severe vomiting, she is not eating any food. Hence she seems to be very weak. The doctor has prescribed a lot of medicines for her to stay healthy and to deliver a healthy baby. In the midst of all these she is also undergoing the treatment under a hearing aid audiologist in order to improve her hearing ability. Will she completely regain her hearing ability?
