2013 Gran Caribe Real/ Royal Cancun Brides

Recommended Posts

You can always try to give her a call. I've called her a couple of times to follow up on things. She was on vacation until 1/14 (and I only knew that because I called and someone else told me that) so on the 15th, I emailed her again and said I know you were on the vacation until the 14th can you please respond, and she responded and called me within minutes. Also, are you working with her through the Basecamp program. That's the only way I communicate with her now but at the begining I had sent her a regular email and she said not to send it that way because she doesn't see it? Not sure how true that was, but still.

At the Gran Caribe Real is there any good spots to do a Rehearsal dinner or meet that would be free? They are trying to charge me for a rehearsal dinner and there is no way im giving them any more money. I asked about giving the welcome bags at check in instead of in the rooms to save money and she still quoted me $5 per bag! ughhhhhhhh.

My fiancé say he doesn't think its needed since we are at an all inclusive. I have mixed feelings because I understand where he is coming from, but at the same time it would be a little extra time with just our group. I'm torn!

During October, the latest reception could only end at 9pm because of the turtle laying egg season.  For you, Emily, even if you ends the reception at 10pm, I feel that you and your guests are still going somewhere else after.  If that's the case, why pay for an extra hour if you will be going somewhere else afterwards anyways.  Just my 2 cents.

She is pretty quick to respond but does stick to the books for almost everything which is quite a bummer. I will definitely give you more details about the visit as soon as I return and I will be taking lots of pictures to share.

Hope she responds to you and accommodates, when is your wedding?

My date is 10/19/13.  I want to put in the deposit already.  I'm scared that I'm missing something.  I have not gotten anything more than what are included in the package or would she work with me on other things.  I feel so bummed.  Hope you have a great time there!

Any information on the photographer that the resort uses? Do they allow/charge for outside vendors?

I have to agree that the chapel is breathtaking.  You're allowed to bring your own photographer but there is an outside vendor fee that the resort charges you.

I have been really disappointed about how rigid they are on their fees, timing, rules, etc.  You'd think there would be some negotiating, but there is NONE.  For instance, we have to pay $5/room to put the welcome bags in them for our guests.  We too had to pass on the chapel because my finace's anullment won't be completed in time, even though he's already started the process and we're both Catholic...  We also are paying the "discounted" outside vendor fee for my guests that are staying the WEEKEND at the hotel but are doing my photography.  So on top of everything else, it's $280 ($350 discounted by 20%) for my friends to take my wedding pictures.

Well, my wedding is on Saturday and we leave to head to GCR in 2 days, so I can let you girls know the details very soon!  They have two pools, so I wasn't real worried about one being small...not to mention the large beach they have....

Have a great time for your wedding.  Let us know how awesome your wedding is.  =]

I actually contacted a baker for a grooms cake. We were going to do it for the rehearsal cocktail hour so I'm thinking about meeting her outside and trying to avoid the fee. When I explained the fee to her, she suggested that most resorts don't charge this anymore and that I should fight it. She even suggested it might not be legal... Well I'm sure it's not illegal, but it certainly is frustrating... But I do feel like there is nothing we can do about it.

Also, my WC contacted me because she said the DJ had been trying to email me and his emails keep bouncing back, and could I please respond to him... clearly if they are bouncing back I'm not receiving them... so if you need me to contact him then his email address would be helpful! Ugh, sorry, just needing to vent!

So frustrating! I didn't think to call i just figured everything was via email. I will try to call her tomorrow! We  correspond through the Basecamp as well. I just want to sign the contract so its 100% confirmed i have the reception location I requested. After that I'll leave her alone for awhile LOL. I haven't asked about OORT bags..but $5 a room seems absurd. That was my next question to my WC. I wish we were able to see weddings the WC have put together in past.

I am a little weary about doing anything over the phone because then you don't have it in writing. I've heard that sometimes when people get down there they have to show their emails to prove that they were told something when they are trying to say differently once they are there.

Also I'm wondering where everyone is getting ready on the day of. We have the Presential suite at the Royal, but since most of my bridesmaids, my parents, and aunts are staying at the Gran Caribe we can't get ready there. I will probably have about 12 people with me and I don't know if the regular rooms at the GCR are big enough. They said even if I bought them day passes, which would probably be too expensive anyways at $65 each, they aren't allowed in our room!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
