Hi redginer!  Thank you!  And yes, I did get legally married in Jamaica.  I am totally happy we did it that way.  We did consider doing the legal stuff beforehand, but it turned out not to be so complicated to get married there (just had to send our birth certificates).  So although I don;t think there is anything wrong with getting legally married before you go away for your DW, i did prefer for the day we had our wedding in Jamaica to be the day we actually were married!

The only complaint I guess i have is that we have to wait about 5 months for our marriage certificate to be mailed to us. I have no idea why it takes so long, but at the same time, I guess I am not in a rush for it!

thanks!  I wanted to share all the details on this resort because i planned my wedding there, i practically did it blind, i found so few brides who got married here! And NONE of them did a private reception, so i was totally gambling with how it would turn out!

thank you!  I got the OOT bags on theknot.com, they are the mini canvas bags that are regularly priced at $18 each, but i got them on sale for half off - and they go on sale ALL the time! don't ever buy them at regular price! and of course, you can embroider on them whatever you want.  I think on Black Friday last year, they were selling for as low as $5.99 each, but i only bought one to see if i liked them and they were never that cheap again!

thank you!  and i think you will be fine with that resort. i had a hard time picking between them because i couldn't really find any differences. i finally with MoBay only because i knew someone who got married there personally and could vouch for it.  However, sometimes i wonder if the beaches would have been nicer at Sunset Jamaica Grande (they were kinda small at Sunset Beach).  I did see a recap on here once of a bride who got married at Grande and i remember her pics were awesome and definitely got me excited for my Sunset wedding!!

I am getting married at the sister resort in Ocho Rios, and was worried about the grounds and how the pictures would look, if it's anything like the Montego Bay resort, I think we're good!

Thank you so much for your post!  I just booked my vaca/DW with Sunset Beach today!  My wedding is Feb. 29, 2012...Leap Day!!  Monday I will be sending out my wedding info to them.  Your pics and play by play has eased my mind a little bit about what the resort has to offer.  Since you now have become my go to girl, I might end up having a plethra of questions for you.  So I apologize in advance.

Which package did you pick?  I think I'm going with the Signature Sunset.

Did you decide on the upgrades before or when you met with the wedding co-ordinator?

Were the ceremony decorations incl. with your package or were they extra ie. chair covers/bows, toule around arbour.

Was your bouquet the one with the package or did you upgrade to the Delux Sunset Bouquet?  Your colours were purple/white, mine is orange and white.  Was the bouquet customized?

Which dinner package did you get?

Do they offer fresh flowers for your hair?

Did you use the photographer from the resort?

I know I've got more, but I can't think any more (you know how you get consumed with this whole thing)

Thanks for your time!

Robin

Hi! congrats on your booking your wedding at sunset beach!  first off, please dont ever apologize for asking questions! i loved planning my wedding and i love talking about it so i am super happy to help in any way i can!!!  i will certainly answer all your questions!  i will also refer to you to the thread i started a while back on this resort i have answered alot of your questions there already:

look through all the pages as i have answered several brides questions throughout all the comments!

http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/thread/68248/sunset-beach-resort-spa-past-and-future-brides-please-post-here

ok, so here I go:

- i took the most basic package - the free "We Do' package.
- as for all the extras/upgrades, i decided them all in advance and went back and forth over email with Natalie the wedding coordinator a million times! and before her, i dealt with two previous coordinators!

- as for the ceremony decorations, i paid extra for the arch ($550). it was worth it for me. if you do the ceremony on the beach, you get a simple arch included (see the thread i referred you to for pics), but i wanted the bamboo arch. the other option is to have the ceremony at the wedding gazebo on the grass. its a beautiful gazebo, but it was on the grass and i wanted to get married on the sand by the water!  the white chair covers were included. the purple fabric on my arch Natalie threw in as a surprise for me, i was expecting it to be all white.  the purple chair ties and silk flower petals i bought myself for super cheap at cvlinens.com and bridesbouquet.com

- my bouquet was included in the package. i did not upgrade. i was able to choose the colors and they have a choice of tropical flowers (see other thread for more detail on this). but all i cared about was the color not the flower type. same with my husbands bout.

- i did a private dinner reception and got the sit down meal for $30 - it was called Montego Bay a la carte i think. it was absolutely delicious and i am very happy i did not spend more as it really was perfect.

- i never thought to ask for fresh flowers for my hair. i had bought my own hair accessories before i went. good question to ask Natalie!

- i brought in my own photographer. i highly recommend her - Kim Chapman (kimchapmanweddings.com). i was lucky and she gave me a deal because she was already booked in Jamaica for another wedding the day after mine so she was able to reduce her fee to match my budget and waive her travel fees because they were already covered. whether you go with her or someone else (there are lots of Jamaica based photogs i researched that live there so you dont have to pay their travel fees), i recommend getting a photographer that gives you a DVD of all your pics since the resort one will charge per photo and you will get hardly nothing. Regarding the vendor fee - see my explanation for how i got out of paying it in the other thread.

thats all your questions for now, hope it helps and feel free to ask more ANY time!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
