When did you ask your wedding party to be involved?

Recommended Posts

Hi all! It looks like we are planning on a long engagement... about 2 years... and I already know who I want for my bridesmaids, but I was wondering, how early do you think is TOO early to ask them?

I think if you already know then its never to early to ask.  That allows them lots of time to save and what not.  We asked ours as soon as possible to allow them lots of time, which was about 14 months before our wedding.

Jaykay I could not agree more! We asked our bridal party about a year and 6 months in advance. Everyone was so excited that they could all attend since they has enough time to save up. We have 10 people not including us in our bridal party and only one bridesmaid.was unsure because she is currently trying to have kids. We were glad we asked as soon as we did.

I kind of went opposite.  There are a few people I knew for sure (my sister and best friend) who were coming no matter what, so I kind of unofficially asked them.  However for the others, and gm we kind of waited.  We knew it was a big financial and time commitment, and didn't want anyone to feel obligated to come because we wanted them to be in the wedding party.  So we were waiting until people had put down their deposits (which they all just did) so now we can officially ask them.

As a follow up - they all knew about the wedding and our plans way ahead of time, so they still had time to follow up.  Just no pressure.

I think 2 years notice to save is GREAT!  I asked some of my girls to be in my wedding before I was even engaged...lol.  Some of the girls told me they were in my wedding party and some I waited until they had already booked.  If your engagement is 2 years long, then they won't need to do anything for a bit so that could be great incentive :)

Thanks! I have heard people say to wait, because you 'never know' what could happen, but really... one is my sister, the other a very good friend of both of us! As for GM, I think we will wait more for that.... they don't do so much anyway :)

I didnt wait at all, i asked within the week of getting engaged, i was soo excited to have them be apart of our day.  I wish I would have waited just a lil bit, just to be able to ask them in a cute way.

This was the case for me too! I asked all of mine within a few days of being engaged and now kinda wished I had asked them in a cutesy/more formal way - oh well, I was just eager to ask!

I have asked all my BMs unofficially I guess but now think I should probably ask them in the "cutesy" way too!  FI hasn't really asked anyone and he doesn't know how to go about doing it? Any suggestions?!
