Hi cheepet!  It would be awesome if you could post pics of your wedding and share your experiences after your wedding in 3 MONTHS!!!!  I am a planner.....and since I am not getting married until November, I don't have direct experience with this salon.  However, they were the ones who did the fashion show Solstice (i think) recently and seem really cool and what I am looking for.  (a messy up do beachy look).  Rock Gorgeous Hair is the salon.  They also have a facebook page.  Let me know what you think!  They also did make up and hair for Miss Grand Cayman recently.  :)

Hi Kristin,

You are awesome!!! This place is exactly what I've been looking for. I've researched salons in the caymans for hours and most of the them had almost prom styles on their websites. I will definitely post pictures. Do you know who you are using as a photgrapher? And what decor you are doing? We are still undecided on the reception decor. Everything seems so expensive.

I just joined today. I am so mad I didn't find this site before. We are getting married at the Grand Old House on May 13th 2012 and are staying at the Marriott. Has anyone stayed at the Marriott before? For photography Rebecca Davidson was already booked so we are going with Aaron Rebarcheck. He's worked with Rebecca before. Where is everyone getting their hair and make-up done?

Hi Kristin!! Welcome! I know I'm a bit behind the ball here as its been like a month now but I just started a new job and can't get on here as often. Aaron does great work, I think he works within picture this... As for the Marriott, we are staying there 2 nights before Caribbean club so we can meet with Molly and our officiant before our families arrive. We we t down a year ago to check out the island and its a very nice property, I'll be looking forward to your review :)

How long is everyone staying? We are on gcm from may 22nd till 28th then going over to little cayman for a mini moon for 3 nights.

Cant believe how quickly it's coming!!!! 31/2 months :)

Hi Grand Cayman brides,

So many people were helpful to me on this board, I wanted to give back.  Here are my photos and recommendations:

These are the vendors I recommend (in order of favorites):
-Luca
-Hemingway's
-Caribbean Club
-Ritz Carlton
-Celebrations (rentals, florals)

Surprise lessons:
-Some people really wanted/expected a pick up from the airport
-Not all guests will be comfortable walking to get to places (even if they are as close as Luca & Hemingways)
-I thought everyone would want to share suites at Caribbean Club, but most of my guests chose to get private rooms at major chain hotels instead
-Plan for a lot of wind on the beach
-You don't need a full hour of pre-dinner cocktails for a small wedding (we had 30 guests)
-Luca's portions are large (and delicious), three courses is plenty.  We had five and wasted a lot of amazing food.
-Having a DJ in a Caribbean Club suite for a small wedding is awkward unless most of your guests are youthful/want to party
-"Island time" is a real thing, don't expect vendors and restaurants to operate with the efficiency and standards of quality you find in big US cities (I'm from LA)
-Related to the above note, the bigger and fancier your wedding, the more potential you have to be frustrated.  I wore an expensive dress and the cleaners burned a hole in it when I took it in for pre-wedding steam.  If I had just gotten a simple beach dress, I probably wouldn't have been so freaked out and/or could have just ironed it myself.
-Also related to the above note...a lot of weddings take place all the time on the island, so keep that in mind when dealing with businesses there.  It will help you keep perspective and look on the bright side.
-The best surprise is how truly, magically, beautiful the island is (especially the colors of the water).  Most guests are just so enchanted by the location that wedding details become insignificant.

For the welcome bags, I did a local flare theme with a rum cake, saltwater taffy, caybrew, rum, shot glass, and an adorable cartoon map (pic in 'Little Details')

I did makeup and hair myself and flew in my photographer and wedding coordinator.

Our big day was November 4, 2011 in the evening and weather was lovely.  Dinner was at Luca with a dancing following in our Caribbean Club suite.

Hope you all have just as magical as a time with your wedding in Grand Cayman.

Good luck and enjoy the ride!

So I was thinking of putting together a suggested itinerary for the 5 days we will be there. They would be in the welcome bags. It would pretty much be 1 activity or meal or drinking spot that people could meet up with us each day. I also wanted to make a map with all of those spots and anything else important.

Any thoughts? Does anyone have any templates?

Diane,

Im SO glad you like Rock Gorgeous Hair too!  You HAVE to post pics after!!!!

I'm working with Desiree from GOH.....but I also thought things were SUPER expensive!  We are having approx. 50-75 guests.  It is important for us to do something with the ceiling.....so I will probably do draping (so.....$1500 or so).  As for centerpieces.....I was quoted like $140 per centerpiece.  That cant be right......can it?  I was hoping to do a lot of it myself with sola flowers from www.saveoncrafts.com.  However, there is something to be said about not having to worry about doing anything else for my wedding.  I just don't know if I can afford creativent.  How much are their services.....anyone know?  Desiree is willing to get my anything I want....but I'm sure there is an upcharge for what she does.  Who knows.....maybe it is just super expensive anyhow.

As for my photographer, I am flying down a video/photo husband/wife team from Kansas City.  They are fairly new to the business, cheap, and dont quite realize how good they are yet!  Ha!  More bang for my buck....they are also filming my rehearsal dinner......all for $2600 plus cost of flights and 3 nights hotel.  Pretty good I think!  :)

I have a pinterest account if you want to look me up.  My email is [email protected] if you want to ask me anything personal.  So glad to have some brides to share ideas with!

Oh.....and we are looking at group rates for sunshine suites, westin, and possibly booking some condos at coral stone condos (RIGHT next door to the ritz....$600 for a 3 bedroom....awesome!!!)  Super nice people there too!

hi!

I'm new to this whole forum idea, but saw some great information so I'm hooked :)  My fiance and I just decided on the Caribbean Club in Nov of 2012.  We're so excited and happy to see that everyone says good things about Luca!

Thank you all for the suggestions about hair and make up, decor, rentals, etc.

Does anyone know of - or is anyone looking at any great cover bands on the island?

thanks!

hi Kristin,

We're looking at November 9th at Luca!  Small world!  We haven't booked anything yet, but everything would happen on Friday.

Are you doing everything at Luca?  Do you know how many people you're having?

We're thinking we might have upwards of 75 people.

Thanks!!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
