ROR Wedding Planning

Hello Everyone,

I am getting married at the Riu Ocho Rios in Jamaica on February 2, 2011. I have spent hours upon hours of searching the forums on this site reading information and reviews of ROR weddings and I feel more lost then knowledgeable. I am completely lost and confused. I thought having a destination wedding meant I could just book the wedding, forget about it until I get there and plan with the wedding coordinator upong arrival. I have been in touch with the new wedding coordinator and the only thing I have preplanned is having a private wedding reception on the beach at the Seagrapes after the semi private dinner.

I guess I am just wondering what everyone did to plan for their wedding before they arrived at the resort? I have read some people planned what the minister was going to read, ordered flowers and their cake, all before arriving.

In terms of the flowers, can you just order what you like when you arrive? Are the free ones nice?

Is the free cake good/pretty looking or do most people upgrade? Again do you have to upgrade ahead of time or can you just decide when you get there?

If your ordering from different companies off the resort, should you be communicating with them before you arrive?

Does the Salon fill up fast or do they reserve spots for you on your day? Or do you have the book the spa ahead of time?? I have opted to go with the Caprice package that include hair, nails, etc, I am nervous of arriving and there being no openings for them to do my hair on my wedding day.

Do you have to book the filmographer ahead of time?

I probably have a million more question but just can't think of them now that I am writing this thread.

Again I was hoping to just book it and forget about it until I got there, but that doesn't seem to be the case. What planning needs to be done before you arrive, and what planning gets done when you arrive?

Thanks for your help!

Congrats and Wecome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would start by reading throught the General Wedding information on the forum.  You will find all the info you need there exp in the- to do section.

I thought the same way like i could just pick the destination and not worry about much else.  But i am glad i found this site, becuase now i get to make my DW more personalized and unique :)

I feel the same way. You are having a private reception on the beach? I hate when i email the coordinator and she answers one out of 6 questions that i have sent her. I asked about a private reception and the only info she gave me was the plantation and mamme bay. The manager gave me info on a beach reception but she totally ignored the question and just gave the above to answers, What is the name of the wedding coordinator you have been talking with ? Good Luck

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
