I'm 5' and petite. I went shopping today and I must admit I had a hard time imagining how the dresses would actually look with all the clips... I bought a dress at the Brides Against Breast Cancer Charity (size 4) but I'm definitely having thoughts. Like Murmel said, a good seamstress is essential!

As for dress shopping it can be hard, but just take your time and be open to trying on things you would normally not think about trying. What I had imagined wearing and what I ended up buying are very different. But I love my dress! (Be note the lovely model wearing the dress is very tall...I am not LOL...unless I stand on a box!)

I am a street size 4, and my dress ended up being a 10 because their sizing is so weird! I'm 5'2", but love heels, so I wore 4" heels and STILL had to hem! Good advice though, paying attention to detail- Some of the detail on the bottom of the dress (above the lace) got lost because of the hemming. I actually liked how it looked better though.

OH and other advice- I paid 150 or so for the correct 'hollow to hem' measurement from the manufacturer, only to be told AFTER I paid and the dress was ordered, that they don't do it in that size- so I had to pay for hemming twice. Long story, a little drama, but it may be good just to double check if you decide to go with the custom hollow to hem.

Where did you take your dress as I see you are in NJ too!!
Congratulations on finding your dress!

It's a small alterations shop/cleaners in Bayonne.

You may want to consider how hemming a dress would affect it's shape and effect; for example, if there is beading that extends past the waistline down onto the skirt, it may look odd if quite of bit of the skirt is hemmed.
Happy dress shopping!
True. I didn't even think of that when I was trying on dresses. Luckily, my matron of honor is my 4'11" friend I mentioned earlier, and she remembered to ask about hemming when I tried on each dress!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
