Bridal Shower

Recommended Posts

Back to the original question...I was just remembering that I have been to a "shower" that was a couples shower. It was actually very cool, not very shower-y, but very much like a fun coctail party with presents. The gifts were very diverse. The couple registered at places like Home Depot and Lowe's for things they needed for their new house. So it was fun to give a card saying "I bought you 50 lbs of cow manure" (just kidding, that's not what I got, just thought it sounded funny!!)

I've also been to a combo bachelor/bachelorette party - total disaster! Vegas + strippers + alcohol + 2 insecure engaged people + all of their closest friends =1 pissed bride, 1 grounded groom and 10 very uncomfortable (if not completely drunk) guests!

That's so funny! We had a dual Vegas bachelor/bachelorette party. It went well. All of our friends that were attending the bach parties are couples so it didn't make sense for them to double up on the cost of hotels, etc. It was tamer than my standard girls Vegas trips, but really fun. I kept trying to get everyone to go to a strip club, but it didn't happen.

HI!
I really didn't want a shower or bachelorette but my friends and family were INSISTENT. So I had a bachelorette a few weeks ago where my girlfriends and I got together at a northern wisconsin cabin for a low key girls weekend.

This past weekend Aaron's parents threw us a coed shower in Madison. It was set up at a wine bar with hors d'euvres and a wine tasting and had a kitchen tool theme (inexpensive gifts). We ended up having a great time and got lots of fun gifts!! Many of our guests said it was the most fun shower they had ever been too. I would definitely recommend the coed option if you are going to do it. ONe of my bridesmaids put together the most thoughtful gift I think I have ever received in my life. She had all of our close friends send her a recipe or two and a few pictures of us and them. Then she put together a recipe book that was set up like a scrap book and called it a "Recipe Book for a Successful Marriage." It literally brought tears to both of us.
This Sunday my Mom and her friend are throwing me a "personals" shower which will mostly be my Mom's friends and a couple of my girls. Can't say I am really looking forward to it but will be there with a smile on my face anyway.

I'm not so sure about the shower thing either. My sister got married last year and I threw her a surprise shower, should have seen the look on her face, the poor thing thought she wans't going to have one. Anyway, so I know since she's my maid of honor she's going to want to throw me a shower, but I feel bad because I know she's coming to the wedding and it's going to cost her money for that. I don't think a lot of our extended family will come to the wedding so I think they will be disappointed if I don't have a shower, but who knows.

I also feel strange about asking people who are spending the money to travel to Mexico to get us gifts as well. We are having immed family and close friends come down and have subtly told them not to get us anything. However, we are having receptions in our home towns after the wedding for the majority of our extended family and parents friends. We are still having showers and are registering for these people. I'm not looking forward to the showers because I hate being the center of attention. I am also uncomfortable registering because I hate asking for things, but I know these people are going to get us stuff anyway, so it might as well be stuff we need.

Ok need help with this one...

Do you still 'register' for gifts? We plan on having a small reception/dinner when we return back home from our DW and his Mom thinks that all the women coming to the DW as well as the home reception would want to go to a shower. I don't expect people paying to come to the DW to give gifts and I don't expect people coming to the reception to give gifts because technically they weren't really invited to the 'wedding'. My FI still thinks we should register for some gifts. Doesn't that just seem rude?

Yeah...his sisters want to throw me one. Only me though...Eric doesn't believe in "couple" wedding or baby showers :) We had a REALLY horrible "couple" baby shower once (which was his first expierence) and it ruined it for him! The places I registered at offer cards to include in shower notices, so everyone will know where we are registered.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
