Hi there!! welcome to the group. I'm in Fort Worth :)

Our wedding will be about the same size as yours, and in the same locations. Natalia is my coordinator with Lomas. I hope you enjoy working with Claudia!!

We are planning to stay at EDR for our "honeymoon". We will be there a total of 10 nights. We figured we'll be in the casitas, and most of our guests are leaving the day after our wedding anyway. We are planning another trip for our first anniversary in 2013, so that will probably be more of a honeymoon.

Good luck and have fun with the planning!

Hi there! We are having our ceremony and reception in the same locations as you on June 30. I'll make sure to send over lots of pics when I get them so you can get a feel for the space at Tucanes :)

How big was your wedding? Were there a lot of other weddings on the same day as yours?

Our wedding had 33 people - there was another there that day that had 30 and another that had 150. Those were the only ceremonies I heard about that day, but there may have been other smaller ones.

We were pretty unhappy with how the rain alternative situations were handled. We were originally booked to have our reception at the Mexican Gazebo but were told we may need to move or risk losing our food service if it started raining. At our prior meeting with the WC, she had told us the Health Bar was the alternate location for the reception, which we were totally okay with. Then less than half an hour before the wedding (seriously!), the WC calls my room and tells us that the 150-person wedding is right across the sidewalk from the Health Bar and does not plan to move to its alternate (indoor) location, so we have to move indoors to accommodate them. I told them that was unacceptable, and we would stay where we were unless they came up with a suitable alternate since we didn't have indoor-appropriate decorations to move the wedding to an indoor location (not to mention we didn't want to have our reception indoors).

Luckily, my husband and MIL ended up speaking to the WC and informing them that we would be having the reception at the Mexican Gazebo. The rain held off except during the first dance (presenting lovely photo ops), and the weather was great. For some reason, the WCs at Lomas and EDR were extremely against doing a reception at the Mexican Gazebo from the beginning and continuously tried to give us excuses as to why it would be a bad venue.  (Of course, they weren't offering any alternatives that didn't involve shutting the reception down at 9pm or moving indoors).  Very odd.  My MIL decided the reason for all the pushback was that that location was farthest from the kitchen, so food service was inconvenient. We really couldn't recommend that location more though. With only a small, quick rain shower, the only area that even got wet was the dance area (we didn't need to rent a dance floor because the ground was flat). The palm trees served as a canopy over our tables, and the area looked amazing.

Argh... I don't see them in the list. I'll e-mail Valeria about it! It would give me more confidence in choosing someone knowing that you've seen pictures and were happy with her! :)

I'm pretty sure Claudia is no longer on the list. I believe it was taken off there right before we booked our wedding because we had been interested in Claudia as well before that.

We're actually probably going to get married pretty soon so that I can get on his health insurance :-( So romantic, I know. Ugh- life. But, again, not telling anyone. For photographers, I am super nervous. The only one that says they do any Photoshop editing that I saw were Sarani and Mexican Wedding... so we will definately be going with one of those if we don't work something out and decide to bring someone with us. I think such a big reason prof pictures look so nice is the color toning and all the other enhancements that are done in photoshop, so to me that is a big priority. My priorites tend to keep evolving as we go, though... so this is a more recent priority of mine! :)

Jill... as for the luminary bags... I found some online cheap, too, and e-mailed Valeria to see if I could bring my own. I think you could get some cute punchers fromt he scrapbooking section to even add a little special touch. I saw on Etsy they sell customized ones, too. Did she say it's okay for you to bring yours? And for lanters... do you know how you're doing them for centerpieces? I'm torn between doing the rope lighting on the poles around tucanes versus the lanterns around the edges... i don't know how they'd light up, and the pre-lit lanterns are pretty expensive...

Thanks ladies! We'll see what happens. I haven't had a chance to talk to her yet so I'll let ya know how it goes.

If she already knows how you feel about him, and still wants him to go to Mexico with her, then you will be risking the friendship if you tell her she can't bring him. I don't know her, but her reaction might be to tell you she isn't going if he can't go too.

Another option may be to tell her that while she is a cherished friend, and her being MOH means the world to you, you're concerned about his ability to behave himself given his past behavior, and thus he's not welcome at the wedding events. I still think that would go over pretty poorly, but if you really want to address it with her, that's how I would position it.

The other alternative is to leave it alone to preserve the friendship. Have a close guy friend or two - preferrably big, husky fellows - act as security and keep an eye on him. If he can't behave himself, get the onsite WC to call hotel security and have him escorted away from your event. You could even discuss it with your onsite WC when you meet with her before the festivities begin.

My future FIL is the expected troublemaker for our wedding; I didn't want to invite him, but my FI insisted even though they are not close, and my FI always tells me how much he can't stand the man. So fine, he'll be there, but if he starts acting like an ass, we will have him thrown out! (this is the man who asked my FI last month if we wanted to wait another 3 years to get married...uhm, no. No we do not want to wait until 2015 to get married).

Is it too late to say that you're trying to keep numbers down and only serious significant others are welcome? Tell her they raised the costs or something?? Ugh. Keep us posted, and good luck!

I told her we were bringing our own and the WC asked why and I flat out told her because of the price. She hasn't said anything since. The lanterns I'm putting in the middle of the tables and within them just putting a simple tea light candle, some sand and mini shells.

I like the rope lights. The only thing I would double check is the outlets around so you don't have cords everywhere.

I still LOVE these lanterns Jill!!!! I had popped into our pier 1 to see if they had any, but ours didn't. It's ok - we'd need 8 (as of now) and that's a lot to haul down there lol Good luck talking to your MOH. Noone deserves that kind of drama.

Thanks Allie! Im trying to figure out how I'll pack the four I have. Hello bubble wrap! If you really wanted them I wonder if you could order them online. I was going to tell you I found an interpreter and (SURPRISINGLY!) I won't get charged by the hotel for this as long as the interpreter leaves right after photos. Yay! One more thing off the list. I just got an email from Natalia warning me that my reception site (chapel terrace) is right by the swing bar and that the music might overpower my music for the last 30 min of the reception. Do you guys think this will be a big deal? She offered to move up my wedding to 3:30 but that seems so early!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
