I'm nervous about our resort being full now. I did get a room block, so at least we'll have most of the rooms we need set aside for us (we blocked less than we estimated we'd need, in case some people changed their minds in the next 14 months).

I'm also nervous that the non-wedding guests at our resort are going to hate us hahaha. It's a small resort, so half the resort will be wedding guests and half will be non-wedding people. All the reviews about our resort talk about it being a peaceful, relaxing vacation. But with our 80 wedding guests, about half of which are young people there to party, it definitely won't be peaceful! Oh well, I guess that'll be their problem and not ours:)

I had no idea that father-daughter and mother-son dances were an American tradition! I've never been to a wedding that didn't have them. I wonder if we have other traditions that differ? What about bouquet and garter tosses? I went to a wedding in Peru where the bride held out an opaque glass with ribbons coming out of it, and all the single girls pulled out a ribbon. The girl who had a little ring at the end of her ribbon was the next to be married. I thought that was very cute, and better than girls clobbering each other for a bouquet!
WOW..I really like the ribbon thing..that is a good idea! U know I hate the bouquet snatching thing, as there was always a few desperated chicks..and super aggressive to SNATCH the bouquet...then tiny and not very eager chick like me were like next to them and get very scared that I may get injured!

For example, I have a good friend (one of my BMs!) whose parents didn't give her a middle name, she just had a first and surname. She always hated that she didn't have a middle name, so a year ago she chose a middle name and legally changed her name to include it. Could she not do that in Quebec?

I'm not a huge fan of my fiance's last name, it's long and German, but I am still going to take it just because I'm a traditionalist. I'm a little sad though to be losing my short and simple last namesad.gif
Yes, u can't change ur last name or name..unless it is for extreme situation, like you have weird name like Pierre Ponce (Pierre is the equivalent of Peter in English, but also means stone) and Pierre Ponce means pedi-stone in French..other than that you can't change ur last name or first name. I guess we had too many jokers here before, that they put a stop on the name changing legal thingy.

Thanks Josietoms, This is a bit disapointing as we wanted to get married in our first week? I wonder if we fly a sunday that we can get married on the friday of the 1st week as that will be the 5th day there so falls into the 3-5 days? I will have to check this out i think.

Mexbride83, you lot will probably cheer the resort up :-) Im sure other guests will understand its a wedding and just get on with it, I know i would....
Yes its funny how traditions etc vary, Yes we do the bouquet throwing, but Ive never seen or heard of the garter toss..... I may have to do the garter toss out of the 2 though as this sounds more fun, i will have to get Stephen to take it off though ;-p
Wonder what else we do is different!!! Im sure we'll stumble on a few things over the next year or so :-)
Like Bonnie i love the ribon thing though as its different.

I think for us the the last week of May is the one to avoid if were looking for cheap... especially if its school hols here and school hols in the US. I think were aiming for the first 2 weeks in May, We talked about this last night and if we can get these weeks then, brilliant. :-)

barbiegirl27, I will be ordering my dress onine too, I have tried the dress on i want but it was £900 which is roughly $1370USD which isnt expensive for a wedding dress but i just didnt want to spend that amount on it, so i talked myself out of it even though everytime i talked dresses i know in my heart i wanted this dress, anyway before i joined BDW i was on a UK forum and someone mentioned a website they got their dress from in china, so i went to look and WOW there it was for a fraction of the price £119 To be exact or $181USD. Stephens a bit unsure me ordering it online incase its a crap dress but i think i would rather risk £119 in the instance of getting MY dress and some people i know have used the site and they are more than happy with their dresses so i though why not :-)
Im not ordering my dress untill ive booked wedding but when i hae and got it i will let you know if it was the right thing to do :-)

WOW i cant believe its that strict with changing your name (s) I supose thats something we all take for granted because we can do it at anytime!!

Nicyx- glad to know I'm not the only one out there that just couldn't justify spending thousands on a dress. I had decided to order online, but then did a google search and came up with a lot of negative things, so I decided against it. A week later I found the dress I wanted, but the real thing, and used....it was still $1700! My FI finally told me to just order it, and if it turns out to be crap, well it's only $250 that we've wasted, and maybe I could still use it for the TTD. I'm anxiously awaiting the email that says they have shipped it! Another lady on this forum has ordered and received her dress from the same website, and although she's not going to be using it (she hadn't tried on a dress like it, and doesn't like the way it looks) she said the quality and likeness to the pic were spot on! I will keep you posted when I finally get mine!

Thanks! I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I fell in love with the sweetheart neckline, but had a lot of trouble actually finding a dress with one here in the shops!

I'll let you know as soon as i get it! My MOH and I are going to open the box and have me try on the dress as we drink some wine, so we'll either be celebrating that I found my dress, or drowning our sorrows! lol

yeah...i'm gonna be ordering my dress online. The whole reason behind me having a DW was to save money...so that's exactly what i'm gonna do. Cause the dress I want is going to cost about $3000...and there is no way i'm going to spend that much on a dress.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
