How frustrating! We just started looking at airline costs and it is going to be $1,069.00 for the two of us round trip from Seattle to Cancun for August 2010. We are so excited to get everything finished and booked but at the same time we are wondering if we should wait and look at tickets the next couple of months....??

Prices in Canada are stupidly high for airline fees usually. We get bent over all the time when it comes to pricing because there's just not the competition that the US has. As for the OP... honestly? Its a crap shoot and there's just no way to know. For our weding, the best thing we did was hassle our guests to book immediately on the group rate. The regular rate was 300-400 more per person (depending on departure location) after our group rate expired. We looked online on our own for ages trying to get a better price and there wasn't one to be found. In addition, because our group is (almost) all booked with Signature, we get 1 free trip and the peace of mind of knowing that our TA has the whole group's bookings done together in case of something crazy happening to our trip.... like the swine flu craziness from earlier this year that cancelled flights!

I'm wondering how far in advance you sent out your invitations and travel information? Did you wait until 6 months before to start booking your guests?
I found that if you wait until about sept-nov to book than its usually the cheapest... But of course you want you secure your room. Find a TA that will offer a price match... mine did. PM if you like to get in contact with my TA.

I would wait, I scored 250 CAD tickets return from calgary to cancun. Flying continental airlines. They have sales you just have to wait if you can.

We still haven't booked our travel yet for our July wedding at Dreams Cabo and I am starting to freak out!!

I've sort of been talking to 3 agents. It seems that if there is any kind of early booking bonus, we have only about a week or two to pay in full. Or the latest quote I got allowed us 3 days to pay in full! WTF? I wouldn't have even been able to get the info out to my guests in that short of time.

The one agent seems VERY confident that we should NOT book with Sunquest and that if we wait, we will still have no trouble booking Dreams for July through another tour operator.

I am seriously doubting it though ..... I don't know what to do. Obviously the cheaper, the better. Right now, it's going to be about $2000 per person, maybe a little more. If waiting means even $200 less, that is at least something, but I am not sure it's worth the risk.

Blaaaahhh.... thanks for listening to me vent!

Booking terms vary greatly between resorts and tour operators so you have to ask your TA what will happen in each instance.
Thanks for this info...so booking directly with hotel & airline would not give us this benefit??

Booking directly with the resort does not always offer you the option to make adjustments. It depends on their cancellation policy. you need to read the terms carefully. Also note booking directly with a resort outside the US usually means that your credit card will get charged an international fee when you pay, you have no one to argue on your behalf should something go wrong (tour ops sell these resorts all the time sending thousands of customers to each resort each year rather than just a one time group so a TA and/or tour op has both bargaining power and pull to get results), and that if you are booking a resort that does not include complimentary airport transfers you will have to also purchase those seperately. So that means you will be making phone calls to resorts, airlines, and transportation companies and handling your guests travel questions.
Something I'm not preparted to do! I was just curious...that's the first I'm hearing of insurance for price changes. I'll send you a PM about riu....thanks!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
