Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?

Recommended Posts

I am having a mini meltdown today!  We had booked our wedding date, a Tuesday, awhile back after our travel agent told us that Transat flys to Jamaica on Fridays out of Calgary.  Well she just called us and told us Transat is changing their flights to Mondays out of Calgarys and now I have been forced to change my wedding date!  I just called down there and the only day I could change it to is Friday the 13th.  Maybe I'm being crazy but I don't really want to get married that day!  My FI says 'its just another day'. Our only other option is to go with a different vacation company but then we will lose our group rate which was really good!  Ugh, I just want to cry!!

On a happier note, I bought my dress a few days ago!!!

Congratulations on getting your dress JayKay!!

Dont worry about having the wedding on Friday the 13th, you can have your dream wedding, and then for the rest of your lives Friday the 13th will always be a good day and hold good memories for you. You can turn it around! And I've personally never had any bad luck on that date. haha

holy crap!  I feel so bad for you!!  My travel agent warned me before booking that Transat is infamous for changing the dates they fly on so I went with Air Canada Vacations instead...but apparently whenever you book far in advance there's always a chance that the tour operator can change their dates regardless of who you fly with.  On the brighter side, I agree with your FI, the 13th is just another day.  It'll be beautiful regardless of the date and you'll be so overwhelmed with all of the hype from the day you'll forget that it's Friday the 13th.  But go with whatever makes you happy  :)  Perhaps we'll run into each other, we fly in on the 14th!

the other thing I was just thinking of was that you could always get married by a JP before you leave, that way you can keep your tuesday date because the 48 hr rule won't matter.  Just a thought.

I just finished ready all 119 and the advice on here is amazing. I am planning my wedding for 2012 and I was having trouble deciding between this resort and the RIU Ocho Rios. Reading this thread has made the decision easy. Thanks everyone for the helpful advice.

Great choice going with GBPJ!  I think the Bahia is a better choice as I was also previously debating whether I should go with the Riu or the Bahia, but my travel agent advised me that the Riu has recently been having a lot of trouble with their groups department and as such she has stopped recommending that resort to her clients.  All of the ladies on here are super helpful as I'm sure you're aware after reading all 119 pages (yikes!)  lol!  Anyway, welcome to the forum :)

Maybe that day wont be so bad.  It turns out my grandparents were married on a friday the 13th and they have been married for over 55 years, so maybe it will be good luck!  I have never had any bad luck either.  Although, when I told my dad we had to change the date he was kind of upset, but he will get over it haha.

Yeah its a bummer but at least I know with 10 months to go then a few months before and have to change everything.  We will probably run into you!! We will be leaving the resort on the 16th to go to a different one for our honeymoon!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
