Am I being ripped off?????

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!!

I am getting married on May 5, 2010 at the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum!! I'm so excited!!! We fly out on the 2nd of May!!! I am just wondering if anyone from Vancouver have gotten prices on there flights yethuh.gif We are paying around 1800(with Taxes) for one week... Is this good?? This is through Signature Vacations. No one wants to go through our travel agent, because they all feel that they can get a better deal elsewhere. I had gotten two other quotes before going with her, and they we're all around the same price... But my sister in Law booked with a different airline, so they could use thier air miles, and they are paying around 1500 with taxes.

I don't know what to do... Is it to late to book with another travel agent?? Or is 1800 a good pricehuh.gif

Help Please!!!! lol

I don't think that you're being ripped off. What you have to remember is that the rates of travel do fluctuate on an almost daily basis, so it is very possible that your guests will have a different rate. If you're that uncomfortable, what I would recommend is calling around to a few area travel agents and double checking their rates to make sure that you're getting the best deal possible.

those could very well be the best rates but for May you maybe want to wait a bit to book? the prices will go down as time goes on.. HOWEVER -- it is your wedding and that's not something to gamble with so maybe it's just best to book now and maybe pay a bit more but have piece of mind..

No I don't think that you are being ripped off...you said that your SIL paid $1500 with using frequent flyer miles...I think that you prob got a better deal bc think about it, there is only a $300 difference, assuming it is the same amount of people for the same amount of time. The miles that they used were prob worth more than $300.00. In today's day and age people feel pre-historic using a travel agent, they feel like they can save a buck by searching on the internet, some will find cheaper prices, some will not. I wouldn't stress it. Since you have so much time before you leave, i would watch the prices, the day you see it go down, contact your travel agent and tell them that you would like for them to honor the new price. Most will do it, as long as it is 90 days prior to travel.

We are flying Air Transat and that have a deal that lets us change our price (1 time only) up to 60 days before we leave. So, our TA is watching the prices for us and when it goes down- and it always does- we will lock it in lower. Maybe your TA can look into something like that for you BUT i dont think you are being ripped off with the price you have now so take a deep breath and relax (and think of it as 1 thing checked off the list)

I'm glad you posted your concerns, as we were in the same boat. Most of our group are flying out of Calgary, and we have about the same pricing for the following week. Don't stress! I also agree with some of the earlier posts too... have your TA check for prices going down prior (if Signature will honor that). Our TA is checking before our deposits are due, and then again when the book prices are released this winter. Our tour operator said they will honor the lower price. I am thinking that yours would too? Good luck!

I dont think you are being ripped off.. but maybe if they offer it spend a few extra $$ on the insurance. The insurance we have is, if the rate goes down we will get the lowest rate but if it goes up we will still pay what we book it at.. I dont know if this is helpful, Im not from CA!! Good luck to you though!!

We are also having our wedding May 5 2010, live near Vancouver but are staying at Paradisus. I've looked at several different flights options for flying out on May 1st. We haven't booked anything yet but it looks like it's cheaper to fly from Seattle if your willing to drive down there. For 7 nights flying from Vancouver with our resort we are looking at $2000-2300 CAD. For 7 nights flying from Seattle it starts as low as $1300 USD. The only thing....I can't seem to find any direct flights from Seattle.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
