Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

Recommended Posts

I'm having my reception on the beach as well.  I am buying some paper lanterns to take down.  The only problem is since it's on the beach I don't think I have anything to string them to. I was thinking of just putting lights in there and placing them around on the sand.  The resort charges soo much for lighting

I remember hearing a previous bride say that they won't let you have a dark reception on the beach, and will actually bring down lighting without charge. I'm going to try that route by not ordering the lighting and see what happens. For the lanterns, I had the same question about where to hang them. I like your idea do putting them in the sand! I would also like some of the stand alone vertical white fabric. I don't know what they call it, but I've seen them at other resorts on the beach and it's beautiful!

My dress is from Blue by Enzoani and is very light feeling even though it doesn't look like it would be. When I went dress shopping I told them I only wanted to try on light dresses.  Marisa dresses are also very light. There were some Maggie sottero  dresses that I liked, but I was told they were heavy so I didn't try those on.

I've actually changed my ceremony to the beach and the reception to the pool deck. I liked a lot of the pictures I saw of receptions on the pool deck. I hired Ivan Luckie as our photographer because I loved his photos and found that the additional packages from Adventure were actually pretty pricey. We are having a pretty big group . . probably about 75 people. I'm trying to figure out what I can bring down for decorations too. And I may end up doing a single stem flower for my bridesmaids .. I only have 3, but the bouquets are so expensive!!  Glad people are starting to chat again on this board. I love hearing everyone's ideas!!Oh right forgot to say. . we are going to El Dorado Maroma for our honeymoon after the wedding. It's also in the Maya Riviera. Our wedding was originally at the Dreams Cancun and not in the riviera so we thought we would be moving to a bit of a different location and now our 2nd hotel isn't far from the Riviera Cancun, but the El Dorado looks awesome. The food is supposed to be great, and it's a smaller boutique resort with less than 100 rooms, adult only. We also have this mini infinite pool on our balcony which seems pretty cool.

Thanks for the dress ideas! We wanted to have our reception on the pool deck, but we don't have enough guests to reserve it. All of the photos from receptions there are gorgeous! I did not like the pool terrace because to me it would feel like people would be walking through the reception. On the beach I think it would be a little more private.

I've heard good things about the El Dorado! We go to Mexico (riviera maya area) every year so have seen or talked to many people who have stayed at many different resorts.

It's all very exciting!

Anyone having their ceremony at the Gazebo...what are your thoughts on the privacy?  I'm getting mixed impressions from the pictures and videos.  Some make the area look more private then others. Do insight on how they section off this area for ceremonies?

I remember reading the same thing about not having us sit in the dark. I thought it would fun to party on the beach, What white fabric do you mean? The one that is draped over the hoopah/arch on the beach? If so, it comes with it.

What kind of wedding do you want? Do you have a theme in mind?  We're doing the free package and adding the other things we want.  It's cheaper that way for us than upgrading to the next package.  We're doing natural touch flowers since I want to keep my bouquet.

I got ceremony decor figured out, but not reception.  I know it won't be much. I can't decide what I want and what will be easiest to take. I am doing a lot of stuff myself like invitations and program fans.  I get a lot of wishy washy answers of who all is attending and its hard to plan without knowing the number of guests, My budget depends on it.

HI Ladies I haven't posted on here in a while but I am getting my paperwork together for the 3 month send in. I have a couple questions I haven't seen answers to while reading throughout all the posts. I have about 70 people coming for my wedding and opted to do the buffet because I did not like many of the meal options.

1.)does anyone know does the buffet include all the options listed? or do I have to pick items?

2.)also I unhid some of the rows in the budget planning form and found that there was an option for Sushi bar as well, has anyone done this and know how much that is?

3.) I also saw an option for an ice sculpture, has anyone ever had that? if so what are your thoughts and do you know any pricing.

4.) I originally wanted 5pm for my ceremony on the beach but they said that wasn't available and gave me 6pm, will it be dark by then? my date is May 4,2014.

Thanks Everyone! I just heard back from the resort that the Pool Deck is also available so I guess I need to decide soon if we want beach or pool deck.  .so of course any opinions are appreciated.  I also am glad I ended up at this resort over the Dreams Cancun. It was a bit of an ordeal having to change everything over, but worth it I believe. Congrats all.

I highly recommend the pool deck :) It looks amazing in the pictures!!

We had our ceremony at the gazebo and while it wasn't private, I didn't notice the people at all. I didn't realize there were so many people watching until I saw our video. But they do keep it blocked off so no one will interrupt or walk through anything. We saw about 5 or 6 weddings while we were there and even on the beach, they weren't private. Same with reception - you are outdoors so there will be people around watching.

Any opinions on photography? I've heard the Anel and Santiago are great at the resort, but I've seen some great pricing and packages from outside photographers as well.  Looking at Juan Navarro and Ivan Luckie. . any thoughts? So many great photographers.

We used Anel and I really have nothing but excellent things to say about her. And the resorts prices for photography in my opinion are great. She was with us almost all day and made us both feel so comfortable. And we did the TTD the next day. A llink to our pics are in my sig.

Hey Brides! Is anyone getting married anytime between April 25-30th?? Hubby and I will be back at DRC for vacation and I'd love to see y'alls weddings!

We were married there 12/17/12 - loved it so much we're going back :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
