Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

I'd recommend putting on your strong man pants ladies. They are giving us different stories. I explained I didn't want the band and I didn't want the cost included, I was quoted a price under $300, explained the cake and was told that I'd have to pay a vendor fee if I didn't want what was in the package for the outside vendor to come on and THEN was told to use the comp package and add on what I wanted which I was fine doing as the cost seems much less.   These folks are playing with the wrong women!  WE HAVE A FORUM!!!!

Thanks everyone!

I feel kind of strange being a groom on the "brides post here" - but my fiance is a full time nursing student and caregiver so I have to take the lead :)

I will keep you all posted... talking about swapping out things... We decided to go with La Luna photography - and not use the adventure photo or videography. I am hoping that somehow when we get down there to use the photography session that is included in the package to be used towards a Trash the dress session the next morning, but there is no guarantee of that.

Apparently when you decide not to use a service from your package - your 'electing' not to use it - so they don't have to substitute it for something or allow you to use that value towards something else. Perhaps we can swing a deal when we get down there. One thing that I am learning is that Dreams sticks to their packages and maybe sometimes they will hook someone up or do something extra.. but you have to go into this with the expectations of the preset package.

We just found out that we will be the only wedding on our day, we also got the seaside grill for our reception! just like this couple had a year ago... I love this slide show  http://delsolphotography.com/blog/content/galleries/?gal=290  - whats amazing to me is that this is a very small wedding but the photography makes it so rich you don't even notice..I have looked at this slide show at least 20 times now.

Hey Sarah-Jane,

Its a roll of the dice with the weather... I have been watching the webcams for the most part it looks good... I know that its HOT! HOT! not just hot!.. but here is the plus side of being late August - Most kids are going back to school and it is technically the off-season. As I mentioned before - we just found we are the only wedding that day and  looking at the webcams now - it looks quite vacated compared to May or July. Screen shot 2011-08-20 at 3.51.45 PM.png

Is it worth booking the plunge pool? I have heard mixed reviews... lots saying the water is so cold you could barely use it.  Do most of the rooms have ocean view?  Our TA is basing our package prices for our guests for the cheapest room, the Premium Deluxe Garden View.. we all have the option to go with a different room if we would like.  Just don't know which ones are worth the money!!!

Just wondering if anyone knows how the location on the beach for the ceremony is?  I read some older posts saying that the location wasn't the greatest and that they were trying to find a different spot... have they done this yet?  I know that getting married on the beach will never be a "private" affair, but I would like it to feel as private as it can!  Also, do they comb the beach before the ceremony, to get rid of any seagrass??

Good job Rick!  Don't feel funny, all are welcome! I'm starting to agree with you guys on them not dropping prices, I'm just such a pain in trying to get what I want, that they basically told me to use the comp package and add on what I want. I did ask if I could use the cake that comes with it as a grooms cake instead and they said that I could because it would still be in the package and THAT'S what i did and took it as a drop in package price.  What is the difference anyway? Anyone care to elaborate on what I'll be missing from the comp package to the others?

Hey Rick

So are you guys going with Del Sol Photography?  After viewing that slideshow again, I'm thinking of going that way because the photographer catches things and I like what is captures vs. Adventure photography which is who I was going to go with.  Have you spoken to them yet?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
