Barcelo Solymar- April 2010

Recommended Posts

Hey,

My first day on the forum!! I am just starting to plan my wedding in april 2010 (14-15) at Barcelo Solymar. I see that it doesnt look like one of the most poular resorts in Varadero.. is there any reason for this? I have never been to Cuba before so I am not sure.

Is there anything I should be aware of about getting married there? I understand that all I need is my passport and Birth certificate and no translation is required since this is my first time ever being married.

Does everyone on here book through a travel agency or has anyone ever just booked individually online. I have a lot of family back east as well in the west so we are flying from all over and the cheapest rates seem to be for us to book all online on our own and flights are only spaced one day apart for some! I spoke to a travel agency but I found the rates to expensive and this the easiest way to do it!

I emailed the Hotel to speak to someone about booking the wedding. Are they usually pretty good at replying to your e-mail in a timely fashion!!!?? Lots of questions I know but I am ready to get this ball rolling :)

Thanks,

Jules

Barcelo is really great and wedding coordinator is super nice. Very laid backwink.gif

It's pretty popular resort - they have a wedding there everyday. Gazebo is nice and big and surroundings are pretty as well. We spending few weeks of April in Vardero every year - weather is great as well.

Resort is close to the town and basically you can walk there - which is great:)

you can see pictures from this resort here , this was a very short wedding coverage, unfortunately we didn't went for a session out of the resort - but you can see resort very well (password Varadero):

If you've never been to Cuba before you'll love any resort you stay in. You'll be so amazed with the Cuban people and listyle that you won't notice most things more experienced Cubagoers notice.

Two things I would recommend for that resort...

1) BRING BUG SPRAY! There are a lot of mosquitos there, especially April/May. We got eaten alive when we went in May. The Barcelo is a beautiful resort with tons of folliage and therefore tons of mosquitos.

2) The service at the bars, especially at the lobby bar, is notoriously slow. I definitely recommend bubba kegs. At least you can stock up when you finally get service.

The great thing about the Bracelo is that you're walking distance from almost everything. So pack your walking shoes!

Congrats and have a great time!!! :)

Congrats on choosing a great resort, you'll love where the Solymar is geographically on the Varadero strip... Walking distance to town and to a favourite tourist hot spot Calle 62! Enjoy!

    • Hello Vernicula - Congratulations on your engagement! I agree with everything MarieSam previously posted. One of the most important things when choosing an agent is there experience and their level of  expertise with destinations and resorts.  All of the Wright Travel agents have years of experience working with wedding groups, we have built excellent relationships with many resorts and we have visited, toured and stayed at many resorts in several different  destinations.  Email is one way of communication so you have everything in writing and can access this a anytime, but phone calls can be just as useful. • Hello!! My fiancé and I are planning on a destination wedding and we are wondering if there are any recommendations for a travel agency to use. I’ve emailed some I found online, but find it tough just communicating through email before we decide where to book. After we book, obviously email is convenient! We are in the Niagara Falls On area and would love to sit and meet with someone but don’t know where to start. Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thank you
    • I’m getting married next May at the Azul Sensatori  in Cancun, I believe they have a hotel specific DJ. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on that versus spending money for an outside vendor and if so any recommendations on a good DJ in that area? Thanks for the help.
