I think you are technically supposed to have it apostilled, however the girl that took care of everything at the social security office seemed to have no idea what she was doing. I really went there that day to find out what I needed to have done to be able to change my name, and she just did it- she couldn't even read the paperwork (I had to show her where our names and dates were) but she still gave it to me...lol
I think I just lucked out...then when I went to the secretary of state they started to give me a hard time- until i showed them that the s.s. office took it- then they let me get a new dl without any translation or apostille...like I said- I think i just got lucky!

Make sure you ask her about the judge fee...she didn't mention that at first, only that the 975 included her handling everything so that is why I specifically asked her what the cost for the judge is and she said it's $300 for the judge and doctor. So then I went even further to have her clarify that the $300 is in addition to the 975....she said yes! Plus apparently now there is another $90 fee? I don't get why she didn't tell me that in the beginning. Oh well...i will put it in my budget too.

She also told me that I have to coordinate the location but she will be there for me to help out if I can't get ahold of them or something and if she needs to physically go over there and find them! So that's good!

I think it's good to have a planner that is there in Cabo. I don't know if your planner in texas is a family friend or just someone you hired there. If there would be no hard feelings, I would just hire maye and have her do the rest of your planning. For instance with the photographer I am going to use Tomas Barron and i haven't actually talked to him or emailed him. (I don't know if I should??) She just said that she would coordinate him and have him work up a contract for me (I requested that) and then I would send her a $350 deposit and she would get it to him...so I am doing everything through her...less i have to worry about.

Michelle, looking back on it, I should have engaged an event planner at the site of my destination, but when we hired her, we were getting married in Santa Fe, NM and so it made more sense. We are now finding that we're having some difficulty getting in contact with vendors in Los Cabos, so a local contact would be great, even if it's just to set up appointments.

But no, I can't switch now...she's too expensive!

But I will make sure and have Maye detail out the costs associated with the ceremony...I don't know if $1,500 (I'm rounding there) is worth it, especially since I already have a coordinator here!

        UG!

          Michelle,
I've emailed Tomas and talked to him, he doesn't speak much english...
He is taking awhile to email me back...I emailed him last week seeing if he received my deposit and signed contract....hasn't emailed me back....So if he decides to talk a long time responding I'm going to have Maye call him to see if he received it and know where to be on our wedding date.

So the apostille is to have the wedding certificate translated from spanish into english?? That makes sense. I should probably just do it just in case. I would hate to get home and start changing names and realize I screwed it all up!!

              Jill,

so you already have paid money to the texas coordinator...that sucks! Well maybe you can just not tell your guests that it's not the legal ceremony and then just go on your own..It can be your little secret!! (and ours!

                Drea,

That's good info. It's probably not even worth my time to contact him though. I will just have maye deal with it. I just really hope that I actually have a photographer (and everything else) on my wedding day! :)

That's exactly what we were planning on doing...but apparently I have nosey guests! They all want to know all about the ceremony, who is doing it, etc! I crack under pressure!

I have a feeling we'll end up doing it legally in Cabo, just to make it official and more destination-feeling anyway, I like incorporating it into the ceremony, but I just don't want to have to deal with the hassle. So I guess maybe that is worth the $1,200 it's going to cost!

                  Why are weddings so expensive?!

You are funny!! I can't keep secrets so well...I am actually really good about keeping them for other people but not for myself!! :) Can you cut off the texas gal and not pay her any more than you already have?? Maybe you can try and contact the judge yourself?? I am not sure how to go about that though...the problem with Fiesta Americana is that they don't have the wedding coordinators there..not like dreams...

I know! I can't really cut her off, and I don't want to either! She is helping with so much here, like flowers, invitations, OOT bags, etc!

I might just see if I can hire Maye or Fiestas for the ceremony & maybe as a contact for my event planner here, so she can delegate & find things in Los Cabos she might not think they have...might work best!
