April 2010 Brides

Recommended Posts

i sent an email to my bridal party to book by a certain date, lol. let's hope they can follow this one simple rule for me.

on a different note, what are you guys doing for your formal invites? andrew and i are leaning toward something more elegant/formal than a destination theme (passports, beach, palm trees). we still have a lot of time before we send them out but we're also not trying to do it all in a 2 month span like the stds. i think i'm going to try and pace this one out. start with the design then the paper and etc.

in two weeks we're going on a cruise to the eastern carribean :) after we return we plan on visiting places for the ahr. fi's dad wants something low-key but i totally want to do it big lol. not big as in decoration/centerpiece fancy but i do want to wear my dress again and have the bride/groom's first dance a second time. i really think there won't be much dancing in mexico since my group will be a small one, anyway. so anything to resemble a local wedding reception would be nice for the ahr, at a budget of course.

i think ahr's are as widely varied as people's dw's! people can go really nuts or go simple. since the whole theme of our wedding has been "low stress", we're going for the whole bbq, cookout theme. a girl i work with and her husband brew their own beer so they are providing the alochol, and FI's a butcher part time so his butcher shop is catering. other than that i think we're just going to have a tent with tables underneath, some music, pictures from the wedding, etc. pretty low key. it's definitely cool for the people who can't make it to the wedding to have a more formal event though! i admire your courage tonya!! plus it's pretty cool that you would get to wear your dress again!

Hi everyone! I'm getting married April 14, 2010 at Iberostar Rose Hall Suites in Montego Bay. I'm excited I found this thread. You are all so ahead of the game. I do have the resort book and we do have 7 other people booked but we don't have a ton of people going with us. There's only a handful of people left to book. I have done anything else yet for the DW.

When we come back we are having a huge reception here in STL and I am more stressed about that. I have been trying to plan and buy for that.

I've read on a couple of sites where Brides had satin table runners...does anyone know where I can find those?

xoxo

welcome taylorbride!!

we are in the same boat as you... we have 9 guests booked so far and there really aren't that more for us to be completely booked! we figured it was either we invite just family or we'd have about 150 guests!

as far as table linens go, this site is incredibly helpful and has gotten some great reviews:

Table Runner

table runners are also pretty easy to make yourself (or have a crafty friend do it!) as long as you can get the fabric and have a sewing machine!

tonya, we're date twins! I've been MIA on this thread for a bit, but I found my BM dresses (phew!) and we just started looking at invites. We want to do a separate honeymoon but I haven't been able to figure out where to start! So many great places...

sperger... what do your BM dresses look like? where did you get them from? i'm letting my bridesmaids choose their own dresses and so far i don't think any of them have even looked! granted all they need is a black dress, but i told them they'll probably want it to be short or "beach appropriate" because it will be so warm and this is probably the best time of the year to buy stuff like that!

also, if you're researching for your honeymoon, BDW is great! i love that it's a one-stop-shop for TONS of locations... it's easy to read the reviews brides have written about all of the resorts.. so helpful!!

Taylorbride- I'm also having an AHR but haven't gotten anywhere near that topic in the planning yet. So far FI and I have thrown ideas at each other but we haven't had the time to do so. Good luck with that!! I'll need it soon :)

Sperger- Yay for a date twins!! What dress and what color are your BM dresses? I'm on the same boat as Erin. I'm having my BM pick their dresses. All I ask is that they be in the same color and fabric. As for your honeymoon, are you looking for somewhere in DR? FI and I are having our honeymoon just 40miles south of our wedding resort. We figure it would be less cost effective and hardly any time wasted when leaving the wedding resort.

Hi Ladies!!!

This has been a really good week for me... I picked up my dress two days ago, made my final decision on a photographer and BM dresses, got a TTD for $50 and received a few quotes on flowers. I even began my first DIY project!!!

Tonya, like you I also want to have a more elegant formal invite but I just can't justify spending tons of cash on them. I am going to try to semi-DIY these as well by having someone do the design, getting them printed at a local printer, and then having a invite assembly party.

I don't think we are having an AHR, but if we do decide to change our minds it will probably be more like Erin's BBQ idea. It seems like the most cost effective, less stress option.

Taylorbride, welcome and I am totally thrilled to have a fellow IRHS bride here on the April 2010 thread!!!

Christina- You don't have to spend lots of cash on your formal invites. Like my STDs I'm DIYing them too. What I did was download a program called GIMP (it's like Adobe but free) and designed my STDs that way. Then when it got down to printing them I had FI sneak a few at a time printing them at his office's color printer haha! Do you have access to a printer at work or anything like that? Hope this helps!

Thanks Tonya for the tip, I will have to get that program. I do have a friend who major in graphic design so I may have to get him onboard also!! I doubt I will use the printers at work, I work at the Pentagon and I don't wanna risk getting in trouble w/ the Feds printing wedding invites :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
