opinions on punta cana?

Recommended Posts

So, I was set on going to punta cana for our destination wedding.... but I was reading some reviews and listening to people I know that went there, and they are making it seem like its a bad place to go.

I know I just need to stop looking at reviews but, its so hard to do! lol

So, main complaints people keep saying are:

1. the food isn't good?

2. it's a long drive thats bumpy and scary?

3. the beaches aren't nice?

Maybe these people had too high of expectations or weren't aware of what they were getting themselves into, I dunno.

For any that have been to the area or have been married there, can you share your opinions? I know things are different depending on the resort, but I'm just curious of other brides opinions.

Thanks in advance!

1. The food there is great. Lots of seafood,if you are into it.

2. It takes 30 minutes by a bus or about 20min by taxi(about $30-40) to most resorts in punta cana.

The ride is not worse than any other place.

3. Punta Cana is considered to have 1 of top 5 beaches in the Caribbean actually! I also found them better than Mexican. Not as good as Thailand or Aruba though...

Good luck

I absolutely love Punta Cana.

The food is not like home.. but you certainly dont starve! I'm also super picky so for me to say that means alot. I don't eat seafood but my boyfriend LOVED all of the seafood he had down there. In reality, you don't go on vacation to eat food just like home!

The roads are not great but the drive is not super long or bad.. its nice to the country and you're there before you know it!

The beaches are unbelievable! I honestly think it's one of the most underrated places to go!

I have tons of pictures of my last two trips.. one to Dreams Punta Cana and one to the Grand Palladium Punta Cana. I'd be happy to send them.. if you want just PM me your email.

Happy planning!

I was in Punta in August 07 and fell in love with it! Ice been to all kinds of islands throughout the Caribbean and this location all in all is my favorite! That's why we are going back there to get married! That being said, we stayed at Excellence, which was truly unbelievable. The food was amazing, drinks were plentiful, service impeccable, and it just seemed every detail was checked and rechecked. I loved the personalized service that we received.

I guess it's hard to give an opinion about the whole country, but that resort was awesome!

And the ride wasn't THAT bad! Those drivers do that drive every day so they know what they're doing!

There's a reason that the DR has become such a desirable destination over the last few years-- check it out, you'll see!

I have been to Punta Cana twice in the past 2 years and I am going next year for my wedding. I LOVE Punta Cana. I have been to a few islands: Mexico, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Bahamas..and I by far like the DR the best. The weather is always nice, the beaches are great, everyone is super friendly, and their all inclusive hotels allow you to eat and drink the whole time you are there and the food is good. Not 5 star dining but you won't starve that is for sure.

I would recommend Punta Cana to anyone for vacation and especially to get married!

Good Luck!

I have been to Punta Cana twice and loved it. The beach is very beautiful we had a blast. Both times we stayed at an all inclusive and we were always able to find something good. I think you would have a great time.

I got married in PC. And i LOVED it there and so did all of my guests. The beach was absolutely gorgeous. Better than any others i've visited. The food at my resort was really, really good especially for an AI. The people were super friendly and spoke great english. We had no communication problems. The staff at my resort went above and beyond making sure i had a great time and when they saw my bride bracelet they would ask about my wedding details, like they were really interested, it was really sweet. My resort was only about a 25 minute from the airport and it was a little bumpy but i think that's pretty normal for a lot of places outside the US. It wasnt like i got car sick or anything.

The food in Punta Cana while not like it is in Canada or the US is still very good. You may want to bring extra snacks with you because things like chips are very expensive.

The ride to the resorts is basically like it is anywhere in the Caribbean. There are a lot of speed bumps, there are little to no traffic rules but I wouldn't say it is scary. Especially because most of the time your transfers are in big busses.

The beaches are some of the best I have seen in the area. The only better being some of the small islands like St Lucia.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
