My FMIL is throwing me a bridal shower this weekend...i saw the invitation at FI's cousin's house and I nearly cringed. On it, it says "in lieu of gifts, a wishbox will be provided" I know it doesn't sound bad but it sounds like asking for cash. We do have a registry so I am not sure why she didn't put it down.

Register online with Site Requirements for Honeyfund.com, the free honeymoon registry or a registry where people give you money for your honeymoon and other things that you need and then register somewhere like Target where you can return gifts.

Sorry but I think it is tacky to ask for money only as a gift. Alot of my family will not be able to come to the wedding so I will register at 2-3 places so they will have a variety to choose from. I know right off there are some that will just send a check. It is up to them to choose what they want to do.

We are pretty much in the same boat. We ended up registering at Sandals that way if someone would want to purchase something, they can have that registry. For the at home reception I'm not sure if we are going to register anywhere or not. We're thinking of just stating that we are not registered anywhere and that their presence is present enough. If they would like to bring something then, that's up to them.

i started this thread and didnt know it would get so many posts lol...well i just had my wedding and it was amazing. my mom threw me a lingerie bridal party and it was a blast. it was catered. i ended up doing a small registry on bed bath and beyond. i got some gifts from there along with money at my shower. also other gifts not on the registry and also each person brought a peice of lingerie which was cool!! for the wedding, i deleted what was left of the registry becuase i didtn want that anymore. in DR everyone gave us a card with either a check or cash which is what we originally wanted and didnt have to ask :) and as far as the stds and invites and website...i had a postcard std which had my wedding website (i never put my regsitry info on the website) then the shower invites had a business card i made from vistaprint with the registry info. then i made message in a bottle invites and also put the business card with registry info. after i gave them out i had wished i didnt since i deleted the registry stuff anyways lol all well, everythign turned out fine anyways :)

I think asking for money is pretty tacky, but my FMIL continues to tell me to get rid of my registries so that people will just bring $$. :S I keep telling her that some people like to buy something off of a registry!

fyi, for bedbathandbeyond, if you register with them and people buy you stuff from the registry, if you return it you get cash back, only if its on ur registry!!! i registered for towels and ranmdom stuff i actually didnt want just to have a registry and when people bought doubles and stuff, i ended up returnign alot and got cash back which was great! we put that towards the honeymoon :)
