Hello everyone - I need some advice and am not sure who to ask!! FI and I have always wanted to have our dream wedding in the Dominican. The problem is... we don't know if we should elope or not. My dad will not fly.. like he just can't - he is THAT terrified.. to the point that like he almost can't even talk about it.. and my mom thinks if somehow he did fly (which he can't and won't) that he'd have a heart attack or something! So def can't have that. My mom said she would still come if we didn't elope. I thought about warmer destinations in the US.. but Dominican is my first choice - and FI's mom's boyfriend is banned from the US (real winner) so she doesn't want to go without him. So either everyone goes to Dominican but my Dad.. (keep in mind too that this would probably be SUPER tough for him (and me) because I am also the youngest and only girl of 4 kids) or we just elope (but maybe bring a few couples of our closest friends..) Anyway, if anyone has any advice or words or wisdom, I would greatly appreciate it!!!

Thanks!! :)

wow. this must be very difficult for you! I would definately look at having your wedding where your dad can attend, and maybe do a little symbolic ceremony on the beach on your honeymoon... best of both worlds. Are you attached to his mom's BF? If not, forget him. Your FI should understand and be supportive. period.

Ouch...tough one.

I couldn't walk down the isle without my Dad so I imagine how difficult this is for you. Can you do two ceremonies? Maybe a ceremony locally for family then a ceremony at your dream destination with a few friends and your FI's family. It doesn't really matter which one has the paperwork attached and how lucky you would be to get to have your dream day with your dream man twice!! That might also open the door for local people in both locations that might not otherwise be able to make the trip. Or how about a cruise that originates somewhere your parents could drive to? (I don't know exactly where you live so that could be completely impossible).

Good luck and keep us posted on what you end up with.

Sounds like your Dad has a huge phobia about flying - poor guy!! My Dad's ex-gf had that, and she had to take 2 Xanax to be able to fly. Is that a possibility?? If you have him go to see his doc and explain the situation they should be able to prescribe him that. If he is THAT worked up it shouldn't knock him out, but rather help him cope with it. Is there some trauma there? I know with my Dad's ex-gf there was... something like she was once on a plane that either did crash or almost crashed.

Thanks for the advice ladies! The more I think about it, the more I just can't leave my dad out of it.. I would feel awful and I'm sure he would feel the same.. everyone off to my wedding including my mom and he's at home.. wow that's bad!! I'm thinking maybe do the symbolic ceremony with just us in the dominican and then do the legal stuff back home afterwards with everyone there...now just have to convice the FI!! :)

My grandparents and the FI's grandparents are not able to attend our DW so we are actually having our legal ceremony at home a private event for just the parents and the gp's. We are going to have a symbolic ceremony down in Riviera Maya, but we're not telling anyone we already are married and we're treating that as our real wedding. It's a little odd to have to go through the wedding twice but oh well everyone gets to be part of it and then we get 2 anniversary dates.

I think this is a great idea. You can do the symbolic at a low cost and still have your dream wedding on the beach, then you can make it legal with your dad and the rest of your family there! Good luck with the FI! What guy wouldnt want 2 wedding ceremonies!?? hahaha

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
