Did you put a deposit on anything when you booked the date in August?

Hello ladies!

I just returned last week from our amazing wedding at the Grand on 1/29/2012! It was truly the best 9 days of our life (so far!). We got married on the beach, with the Free Wedding Package and 22 guests total. Let me know if you have any questions! Will try to help in any way that I can. This site was such a huge help in all of my planning! Thanks Kendra. I have all the package info but I want to know the quantity and quality of the bouquet and decorations that come with the free package, so I know how much to provide on my own. I know the free package essentially comes with nothing, no flowers, no aisle runner, etc. but it does come with a few items: arch, chair covers and ties, bouquet, basic table set up.

For the private reception you're required to have 30 people minimum.

I'm just looking for a nice and simple wedding; wedding on the beach, cocktail hour and a dinner. I'm torn b/t a private party or just having folks meet at the night club (is that crazy?). I'm just not sure how many "partiers" I have that will dance and and really make the most of a private reception

DeAngelis2be, how was the food at Port Maria (variety/ taste)?

Leah22, the free wedding package includes minister fees, arrangement for official license, bouquet and boutonniere, wedding cake for 10 people, one bottle of champagne for a toast, room upgrade depending on availability, late check-up on departure day, one romantic dinner during stay. The package is for a maximum of 10 people or $20 extra pp. The "grand" package had a few things that didn't appeal to us, but as I keep reviewing it, it might look better once our a la carte options are added up :/

Heather, you can't put down a deposit. They won't charge you until the end, after your wedding. There's no way to lock in the rates, so you may be subject to a rate increase in 2013.  Have you talked to the WC?

DeAngelis, thanks for the feedback!  Did you have to pay for the party on the beach (minus the bonfire)?  Did you bring your own tiki torches or did they provide them?  I wanted to have a beach bonfire party but they doubled the price for 2012!

I had my ceremony on the beach. My picture link should be working now. It wasn't private, however there is a location to the far west of the resort that is private. The only reason why I didn't use this location was because I had my wedding in December and the sun sets early so there would of been a lot of shadows from the trees. Yes I had a private reception at the Port Maria with a buffet and open bar. For set up check out my pictures and let me know if you have any additional questions. Yes, you could do long rectangular tables. I went with large round tables.

The new policy is your only allowed to bring in your own outside photographer, videographer, and make up artist. Any entertainment or flowers must be through the resorts vendors. Yes this is affecting my April wedding and I'm currently arguing with the resort. I used alot of outside vendors. I used Tia Flora for my welcome party arrangements and she did a great job! I'm using her for my brides upcoming wedding. She's a bit overpriced but you can negotiate with her.

I had a beach party, no bonfire, we had a reggae band and tiki torches set up.

I had the Grand ceremony package.

The information I have is showing that dinner groups over 30 people have to use the Port Maria, however for groups under 30, there is an additional cost for a private dinner and /or for a dinner lasting more than 1.5 hours at the Beach Restaurant. Then there is the Mango Walk Disco w/ a 20 person minimum....decisions, decisions...I have mailed off my message in the bottle invitations (profile pic) this week. After sitting down with fiance, we estimated more RSVP's than previously quoted, but we shall see. We agree on wedding ceremony details, cocktail hour and dinner, but a reception/ party...ehh, he wants a "first dance", which is not a requirement for me, so I'm trying to find a medium...

Kendra 6303, I went with the Grand package, but I am fearful I will have over 30 guests. I was not aware that if you have 30 guest or more that you have to have a private reception. I tried to switch my package to the free package but Janielle would not allow me. She has not been too helpful and I am getting very frustrated. My travel agent keeps ensuring me that things will be fine and beautiful. We are just sticking with the dinner that comes with the Grand package. I would of loved to have a private wedding reception, but I do not feel like spending that extra money. Things are beginning to add up and we still want to do several of excursions while in Jamaica.

My fiance and I talked, and we both agreed that being in Jamaica is a nice place in itself. So, we are going to do the semi-private reception and then meet at the nightclub afterwards. We are already having a non traditional wedding, but I feel by having the private reception with a dance floor and DJ that we are trying to turn it into something traditional.

Hi Jen,

Thanks for sharing your photos!  I love your dress!  Mine is similar (deep V with beading at the waist).  I do have a few questions.  Did you bring your own bouquet or upgrade from the one one that comes with the free package?  Did you work with Tai Flora?  If so, how much did she charge you for the flowers on the arch?  Also, what color are your chair sashes?  White or silver?  I think Janielle said that she has white, silver, or lime green available.

Did you check out the alternate beach location for the wedding?  The spot that's private?  I haven't seen any photos of that area yet.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
