My OOT Bags~ the big hits and the things that weren't used

Recommended Posts

Thanks Lydia1120  this is a huge help to find out what were the big hits and what wasn't. I'm starting to get my bags together and was hoping you could help a little.

For your travel mugs, were they the insulated type with the straw? Where did you get them?

Where did you get the luggage tags and room key/tip holders?

Did you ask everyone what their flip flop sizes were?

Did you make the passport book?

Prolly a very silly question but what is R.Y.F.K.M?

Thanks!

Good idea!

So, I thought it might be helpful for people who are putting together their OOT bags to know some of the things that people liked in mine and what they didn't really use.

My bags had a lot of different stuff in them. The things that people used most and were really excited for were:

The Find a Word Puzzles/ Sodoku books~ A Big Hit!
Decks of cards (a last minute addition that I'm glad I put in)~ it was cloudy for several days and these came in handy
First Aid Kits~ the bandaids were good for people who got blisters
and the Pepto bismol tablets and Motrin

The things that weren't used that I could've done without were:

The sunscreen with spf 30~ everyone knew they were heading somewhere sunny and packed their own
Mini beach balls~ I didn't see one of these used except by my FI who kept beaning me in the head and finding it hilarious! lol
Spanish for Dummies books~ as cute as they were no one read them
OFF wipes~ I never saw a bug and no one mentioned anything about them

I also would've added twice as many Motrins to the bags. I put in the 99 cent packs that had a total of 6 tablets in them. People used them and probably could've used more.

Hi there, if you look through my thread that I started, you will find all the places I bought my items from. I believe my planning thread also has that information (link below in my signature). Mugs were from Oriental Trading and I was able to personalize them with everyone's name... The luggage tags and key/tip holders I bought on ebay and printed the personalized tags myself..... The tip/room card I printed business cards off Vistaprint $10 for 250 and slipped in the holder. The title of my thread is: OOT - HELP!!!! I AM OBSESSED WITH OOT BAGS, lol ...LOTS OF PICTURES

Yes I made the passport books myself and yes I did ask everyone their flip flop sizes.

The button was "are you f%^#*ing kidding me". Lol my husband says that ALL the time, lol

Hi Ladies,

Looks like you have covered everything possible in this thread:)) amazing, sooo thankful to all of you...Totally changed my mind about putting sunscreen in the bags, someone will always have some to lend:) I have 2 items I haven't seen anyone using. It might be because we are having a Villa wedding in Tulum and all our guests are staying in a small bungalow hotels near by.

1) mosquito repellent coils and matches (great for using out on the patio or balcony at night. Made by Coghlans, it's a pack of 10, and it was very cheap...so I'm just gonna put 1-2 per bag in the zip lock and print my own instructions

2) we have a lot of people coming from all over Europe and Russia, so I'm only adding this for the ones with little kids and not very seasoned travelers. My wedding planner is sending me a few Mexican SIM cards, I can add to my hard copy invite I will be sending out a couple of month out, or put in the welcome bags. so people can just call us when they get in, and we know to expect them, or incase they need any help. You just have to make sure you know the SIM card sizes, mini or regular. The SIMs are $5-7 to start and they can always ad more money to it.

Just a thought

@@Torifire - I really like the SIM card idea!  Apologies for my ignorance but how does that work? Do they allow guests to use their cell phones while in MX without incurring charges from their cell service provider in Europe & Russia? If so, where are you getting them from?

No worries, I know it can be confusing. Basically the guests take out their current SIM card and put in the Mexican one. They might have to punch in a PIN code that come with the Mexican SIM card So they will have a Mexican cell phone number and can call local. You should to the same whenever you get down there. Most of the countries have GSM type phones (Europe and Russia included), so it's super easy to use. But for the US travelers it's not so simple...the phone needs to be unlocked for some of the providers that have a SIM (have to call the provider to do that). I believe T-mobile is already unlocked, but Att you need to call. But anyone that has a NON GSM sim provider (which is Sprint, verizon) will not be able to use it, since they can't get the SIM card out of their phones. Hope this helps...let me know if you have any more questions

You can buy the SIM cards in any OXXO gas station in Mexico and many other places, like markets. So I'm having my wedding planner ship me some, when I get a bit closer.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
