At home reception?????

Hello everyone..I don't remember if I posted this in the past or not, but going to post it anyway.

We keep going back and forth on the whole AHR thing. I feel we should have it..my finance on the other hand isn't really feeling it. I know a lot of people will not be able to make our wedding, so I feel obligated to have a little something back home.

Just wanted to know who is actually doing this themselves and what the planning process is. We are getting married May 8, 2009, so I was thinking on having it in June, the first or second Sat.

Also, if we do go through with it, what should we do for the bridal shower then? Should I send out invitations for the AHR at the end of March so that I can have a bridal shower in April for all the guests(for Mexico and here??) Or should I not invite the guests from the AHR to the showerhuh.gif I'm confused!

Any tips/help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

We are doing the wedding at EDSS and then reception back here... I thought it was a good idea.. but the costs are really adding up!

Right now I am in panic.. we leave in just over a month.. gone Jan 31st to Feb 15th (marrying on the 6th :-) ) and then reception back in our home town March 7th.

The exciting thing.. is getting to wear the dress twice... and having a BIG BASH when we get home.. no pressure no jitters.. just a great big party with friends...

Our wedding will only be about 8 people in Mexico.. back home we are doing an evening reception... We are catholic so we are getting our marriage 'blessed' at 6:30pm and then having a reception (toasts and a slide show of the mexico wedding) at 7:30 - 8.. then party starts right after with a late lunch to be served about 10-10:30.

I can't wait, but the planning is driving me mad... One hint.. we are having all the rsvp's to be back BEFORE we leave to Mexico (Jan 29th) so we don't have to worry about it while we are in paradise..

We are going to ERC June 13-21 and then having a reception back home in Kansas, which is where we are originally from, on August 1. We currently live in South Carolina and we aren't going to do anything here. It makes it even more difficult to plan for a reception when it is going to happen halfway across the country.

Prairiegirl,

What do you mean by having your marriage "blessed?" we are catholic too and it is pretty important that we are eventually married by the catholic church for his parents. Could you give me more details on that?

Also, did you guys send out separate invitations for the AHR?? Did you guys have a bridal shower for both receptions before your Destination one? Sorry if that sounds confusing!

I'm from Texas and my fiance is from West Virginia. Most of my family is attending our destination wedding in Puerto Vallarta and a few of his friends and family are coming to Mexico for our wedding. Because his family is in WV, it was a lot harder to get to Mexico so we thought about having our legal ceremony in WV with his family and then having the ceremony in Mexico with mine. I'm not sure if I want to wear the actual dress I'm wearing in Mexico, although I guess it wouldn't hurt to wear it twice. I guess my question is who pays for the wedding in WV, I would assume his parents but they haven't offered.

That's a tough call. We will be paying for our wedding in Mexico and if we have a reception back here, we'll be paying for that as well. Our family does not have a lot money so that's why i feel like we should have something back here so that we can celebrate w/ the people that can't afford to come to mexico.

Sorry I can't help you out in that department, for us it was an automatic that we were going to be paying for everything. I've been saving for over a year for this!

I will just throw this out there as mind fodder.

Some people broadcast their wedding via the web for guests to watch and enjoy that can not make it or afford to go.

Now this does not really affect having an at home reception... and you will get to wear your dress again! But, it is something to consider if you concerned about sharing your day with guests that can't make it.

We're trying to decide b/w a reception or dinner when we get back. We have about 30-40 guests coming to Mexico w/ us which is getting more expensive by the day. So now I'm not sure what we will do when we get back, the reception is the most expensive part. It's mostly good friends traveling w/ us, so we were thinking nice dinner possibly for family that couldn't make it.....it's a hard decision.

Yes, can you please elaborate on having your wedding "blessed". A few comments have been tossed our way regarding the fact that we are not getting married in a church(bc we want to be married on the beach). However, we would not be opposed to something like this. Would love to hear more. Thanks!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
