We were all on the Lady Hamilton side of the resort, this is where the honeymoon villas are. Only one couple was put on the wrong side of the resort, and they also had a leaking ceiling. This resort is suppose to be new, but you cold never tell. The fountains in the lobby and the room building were either empty or filled with stagant water just sitting there smelling up the whole building.

Believe me I can't believe it either!!! After every pboblem we kept saying this is our honeymoon/wedding, there is nothing WE can do lets just forget and and move on, but problems can't happening!

Petals and I shared the same photographer (who was amazing), I wanted to see Petals on her wedding day but I was stuck in the lobby until 7:00 dealing with accommodations for our guests that arrived that day.

Rooms to stay away from 3114 - Ants, 3208 & 3220 - leaking ceiling and Mold, 3021 - sewerage problem, thats the only room numbers I can think of right now..................

Awww, Linda, I'm so sorry you had such a horrible experience! The chicken situation is completely unacceptable. And that's terrible about the shower... I would've been upset too.

My group stayed on the Jamaica side of the resort and didn't have those complaints. My cousins, some friends, and friends of our parents are even planning a return trip! They had a wonderful time & can't stop talking about it. The most aggravation they suffered was waiting until 3pm to check in.

You're right, the resort is definitely not perfect (I think some of the construction was rushed- hence the pool tiles coming undone in less than a year), but overall our guests were happy with their accomodations, the resort grounds, and the wedding. (Maybe our different groups have different expectations of travel to Jamaica? Most of us usually stay at basic hotels when we go to JA, and we thought GPJ was nice.)

We were in a Junior Suite on the Jamaica side (Building 11) and our shower and jacuzzi tub were fine. Our ceiling fan and AC worked fine too. No mold either. We did see the tiny sugar ants, but only if we left fruit or food sitting out. Otherwise they weren't apparent. I've been going to Jamaica since I was little, and you really do see them anywhere you go if fruit & food are out.

Monica said that one of the days, she had a ceiling leak, but I didn't hear that complaint from anybody else in our group (we were 57 total). The breakfast buffet was good, the lunch buffet was okay, but we mostly ate jerk chicken at the Sunset Cove, and our wedding meal was good. I saw some of the missing pool tiles, and I remember power going down around 6am one of the mornings after the storm, but those things weren't enough to ruin our trip, or leave us with a bad feeling about the resort.

The only negatives on my trip were: the wedding coordinator lost my flowergirl basket & ringbearer box, the ride from the ceremony to the reception took too long to arrive so we walked across on our own, lobster was offered as a menu choice although it wasn't going to be available, and that it seems standard for the wedding meal service to take nearly the entire time slot. (not much time left for dancing)

But overall, I had a positive experience. Most days we went to the Sunset Cove beach (the farthest beach) and it was clean and nice.

I'm sorry you had such a bad time...

I can only speak from my own experience, and from what my guests have told me... and based on that, our guests were laid back, relaxed and happy during their trip.

(Getting bumped by Air Jamaica on the way back was a totally different story!)

Petals, I'm so glad you had a great time. it was nice to reread after the blasting of the resort. I know some people who stayed at the resort earlier in the year, and they had no complaints.

Also, I love, love, love your pictures. I sent the facebook link to my photographer for inspiration! I really like the fact that she made use of the beautiful architecture that the resort offeres, which I had yet to see done. Where did you honeymoon in Negril? We are staying at Sunset at the Palms in Negril following our wedding.
        20 days until we leave!

Imdels...that just sucks.....So sorry about your wedding

To all other GP brides....Remember you are in Jamaica and most importantly on JAMAICA TIME. There is absolutely nothing that occurs promptly at the GP. Believe me, I am one impatient person, but you must learn to adapt or you will indeed have a miserable time. Service is very slow at some of the restaurants especially the poisedon. Expect at least 2 hours for dinner at the minimum. We just drank more!!!No problem!!!

As for the wedding day....No, they are not the most organized. They steamed my dress & husbands suit the day we arrived, and 5 days later still no dress/suit. I had to get someone to track it down after I got my hair and makeup done. They did deliver it promptly once made aware. Flowers....yep had to make a phone call for them too! But once again, this is Jamaica...they are in no hurry. It is essential to have the "no worries" attitude at the GP. Then my maid of honor's roommate locked her out of the room(chained the door) while he laid unconscious from all his activities/festivities on our wedding day. She had just a few minutes to get ready when all said and done. Once again, just relax it will all work out!

As for the rooms, they gave every one of our guests (59) oceanview. Most were in the building( I think 34) overlooking the gazebo with a great view and some others in building 26 right by the main pool. All thought the rooms were wonderful. One room had a small leak in the ceiling, but fortunately they were just concerned about partying. Our safe was broke when we arrived, but someone came to fix it within 10 minutes. We didn't have the best drainage in our outdoor shower, but it wasn't a big deal. The AC never gets super cold, but the temp is quite tolerable. This is not like a 5 star hotel in the states. Their rates are super cheap for an all inclusive. You will not find another AI resort of this caliber for this price.

Check in.....don't think early check in exists so don't plan on it even if you request in advance

Truly, our only complaint was we had lobster and filet mignon as our menu choices....lobster was awesome.....filet ended up being a ribeye not worth the $50pp price tag. All n all, everyone was pleasantly surprised with the resort with many of our guests planning on returning!

Other exciting news....we just booked 4 nights at The Caves in Negril in July since we never got any time to ourselves after the wedding!

                  Hey everyone!

Just a few other general questions....

Did you all use the group coordinator to set up your rooms? I'm getting worried now because I decided to tell people to set up their rooms through expedia (because it came out to be cheaper!). Did you guys have suites that were close to each other?

Also - does anyone have suggestions on things to do on the island? I want to create a list of what's available to do/see while in Jamaica for all the guests and make sure they have a great time!!

                  thanks!

                    Hi Petals,

Quick question for you. I read in your prep thread that you got a groom's cake from a local bakery. My fiance's mom's side of the fam is Jamaican and they would like for him to also have a groom's cake to give out to guests. (I am freaking because the request is kinda in the 11th hour ) Is the bakery close to GP and did they deliver the cake? Would you happen to have the info if they did in fact deliver? BTW, thanks so much for giving insight into the table setup at blue lagoon!

                    Thanks so much!!

                      Hey,
Can anyone give me some insight on the DJ. The only part of my reception I'm having trouble with is the music. I want to know what type of music they play and if I give them a song list will they have most of it?? We have about 70 people coming (all big partyers) and I want to have them up and moving the entire time! I heard the DJ doesn't play during dinner, is this true?? Thanks for your help!

                      Thanks,
                      Jackie
