  1. Got it...the marriage register....5 months to the day! No gift though......think I'll send an email, but won't hold my breath
  2. Married 5/2, Haven't received either, but heard back from Julian that she has it in her hands at the resort and will mail immediately. We will see! Keep you guys posted.
  3. Re: Marriage certificates............Got married May 2 and in the same boat. New wedding coordinator is Julian Chang. She replied and expects to have an answer from the registers office by this weekend. She also cc the info to GP higher ups. I'll let you guys know if and when I hear anything.
  4. Got married 5/2/09. Jacynthia replied yesterday that she contacted the license place and the GP should receive the marriage certificate in 2 weeks. So I'm guessing it will take at least another month for us to receive. 6-8 weeks Jamaica time = approx 20 weeks our time!
  5. Has anyone received their marriage certificate?
  6. Petals What can I say......Absolutely Stunning!!! BTW, your TTD pics were awesome too! Unfortunately we didn't get to do a TTD in Jamaica b/c our photographer had to leave early the next day, but we will be doing one soon at home on the beach. I can't wait now that I've seen your pics!
  7. Jackie Do not go with the DJ unless they agree to play during dinner or later into the night. With the amount of guests you have, dinner will probably take 3 hours (remember Jamaica time?) It seems you must have a small guest list in order to take full advantage of the time you are paying for. There have been a few posts where the couple paid for 3-4 hours but only received 1-2 hours of music. On the other hand, one bride stated the DJ had all requested songs with the exception of one Heres a great link for Q & A about the resort itself to pass on to your guests Frequently Asked Questions About Jamaica Room requests: Jose E. 8. Imdels...that just sucks.....So sorry about your wedding To all other GP brides....Remember you are in Jamaica and most importantly on JAMAICA TIME. There is absolutely nothing that occurs promptly at the GP. Believe me, I am one impatient person, but you must learn to adapt or you will indeed have a miserable time. Service is very slow at some of the restaurants especially the poisedon. Expect at least 2 hours for dinner at the minimum. We just drank more!!!No problem!!! As for the wedding day....No, they are not the most organized. They steamed my dress & husbands suit the day we arrived, and 5 days later still no dress/suit. I had to get someone to track it down after I got my hair and makeup done. They did deliver it promptly once made aware. Flowers....yep had to make a phone call for them too! But once again, this is Jamaica...they are in no hurry. It is essential to have the "no worries" attitude at the GP. Then my maid of honor's roommate locked her out of the room(chained the door) while he laid unconscious from all his activities/festivities on our wedding day. She had just a few minutes to get ready when all said and done. Once again, just relax it will all work out! As for the rooms, they gave every one of our guests (59) oceanview. Most were in the building( I think 34) overlooking the gazebo with a great view and some others in building 26 right by the main pool. All thought the rooms were wonderful. One room had a small leak in the ceiling, but fortunately they were just concerned about partying. Our safe was broke when we arrived, but someone came to fix it within 10 minutes. We didn't have the best drainage in our outdoor shower, but it wasn't a big deal. The AC never gets super cold, but the temp is quite tolerable. This is not like a 5 star hotel in the states. Their rates are super cheap for an all inclusive. You will not find another AI resort of this caliber for this price. Check in.....don't think early check in exists so don't plan on it even if you request in advance Truly, our only complaint was we had lobster and filet mignon as our menu choices....lobster was awesome.....filet ended up being a ribeye not worth the $50pp price tag. All n all, everyone was pleasantly surprised with the resort with many of our guests planning on returning! Other exciting news....we just booked 4 nights at The Caves in Negril in July since we never got any time to ourselves after the wedding!
  9. We had a party at Carlito's a few months back for about 25 people with reservations far in advance. I WOULD NOT recommend!!! We were there over 2 hours still without food. Very slow, poor, poor service. Food OK. Jalapeno's is a good option...there is 3 locations around Savannah. Being Cinco da Mayo (free Tequila shots!) may be an issue reserving any Mexican place. IT is VERY VERY CROWDED this day at all Mexican restaurants in Savannah. The one on Whitemarsh island(closest to Tybee) does not have a private room, not sure about the others. There is also Cancun on Wilmington Island (less than 10 minutes from Tybee)....It does have a back room and the food is as good as Jalapenos. Margaritas are tasty! It would probably be a little toned down as compared to Jalapenos. Juarez on Broughton st. is a prime location for partying downtown! Food pretty good, drinks great, cheap prices. They have a buffet area downstairs you could probably reserve however I will warn you.....It is a basement and is definitely a far far cry from an upscale atmosphere. As for Marlin Monroes, I have lived here over 5 years, have never been there and have never heard any of my friends, coworkers, etc talk about it so I'm guessing this option may not be the best either, I'll see if I can find anything out about it. Let me know if I can be of any help. By the way Tybee does have a shuttle that runs downtown throughout the day but I'm not sure how late.
  10. Dana Be careful about the photographer. We brought our own but she was also a guest. This topic was discussed earlier in the forum. They do not allow outside photographers unless they are actually a guest of the wedding and staying at the resort. The fee is now $75 for a guest pass. I would definitely get this clarified before you go. It may just be they do not permit another Jamaican company to do the photos? The other option would be to book her a room for the one night even if she doesn't stay. You only have to provide a meal for her if you want to. Either way she will have access to all the restaurants. Zuzelh I did have my hair, makeup, and nail polish change done at the spa. It took less than 2 hours total. I must say they did a very nice job with my hair(very, very fine poker straight). I did do a trial run earlier in the week though just as a test. It was very windy on our wedding day(though sunny!) and it didn't budge much at all until about 930pm after we started the first dance, etc. As for the make up, I'd do it yourself. It wasn't worth the $45; however I went with a more natural look being that I usually do not wear anything but lipstick. I guess if you want to pile it on, it may be worth it. Nails....I had them done in the US before we left with a french manicure and had them do a polish change. I highly suggest this, otherwise you will be spending alot of time preparing in the am. I opted to get a massage instead! Yes, it was great! FYI...If you plan on buying some spa treatments as gift for your guests or for your wedding party, buy in advance online. #1 You get a discount. #2 they do not have gift certificates onsite. Yes, this is hard to believe, but dealing with these people was the worst part of our trip. I had more issues trying to buy my dad a massage than you could imagine. Put it this way, it was so bad that we ended up getting it comped! So we didn't have to pay, but it wasn't worth the hassle. If you have a problem, ask to speak with the manager, she was the only one with a brain cell! Petals.....Congrats!!!!!!!!
  11. Dana For the tropical package, you can choose any of the Ala carte restaurants. They will reserve an area for your wedding group for 2 hours. It will not be private unless you rent the blue lagoon or your group is so large that it takes up nearly the entire Ala carte restaurant. The tropical wedding package price includes the meal. I think that package was $30pp after 8 people. It was my understanding you can not have any form of entertainment unless you rent the Blue Lagoon so I wouldn't bank on being able to bring your ipod to the poisedon. You can still rent out the BL with the tropical package and save yourself $20pp over the Caribbean package which would help pay the $300 rental fee! It seemed that anything can be changed once you get there. They did want to know our meal choices 1 month prior to arrival but I don't think she really ever looked at it; hence why the filet mignon we were promised was a ribeye! Make sure you contact Jascynthia when you get there to arrange a meeting time! BE PROACTIVE! Once again, don't stress too much, Jascythia really did take care of everything once we were on site!
  12. We didn't hire one, but brought a HD video recorder with us and asked one of our reliable guests to do the video. No, it wasn't a professional job, but was quite sufficient. It was entertaining to hear her narrative! We purchased a massage for her at the resort in return. I will say we brought our own photographer so we knew we would have some great pics. It was definitely cheaper for us to buy a HD camcorder than to have the resort do the video(for ceremony &reception)
  13. Dana Blue Lagoon is $300 and always has been since the resort opened Poisedon is free, but you can not have entertainment there unless they agree to close it off to the rest of the GP guests. I think they did for one couple but only because the blue lagoon was already booked. I saw photos from the very first wedding at the GP and was not impressed at all, but I read that someone had used them and stated they weren't bad. Even though the photographer is included in the package, we opted to not use them at all to decrease the chance of choas.
  14. Hey Everyone I just got a preview slide show of our wedding pics from our photographer! Turn up the volume! Traci and Kevin Hope this will answer some questions. The last few pics are the Zuriekalama(however you spell it) show As for place settings as you see, we put a sticker of a lobster or cow for menu choices. Our set up was in the blue lagoon, there is plenty of space for dancing/ entertainment. The set up us in the middle due to our group size so the entire "cloverleaf" overlooking the pool/ocean was open. Petals....I can't find a downloadable pic of our set up. I'll post if someone sends me one As for sending documents, I sent by certified US mail in July 2008 and they never did receive them.....I suggest take additional copies with you just in case! Jascynthia......well, I will say she is extremely busy and until that other assistant starts, I'm afraid responses are going to be null and void. There are several Mexico weddings that are last minute transfers to the GP! Don't stress out. We had multiple unanswered questions when we arrived, we met with her for about an hour and everything was taken care of! It will all fall into place. Julie...We never received the fruit basket or additional bottle of champagne that we were promised, but I figured thats minute and we could go to the bar or buffet. It was irritating though. As for the marriage certificate, Jascynthia told us 6-8 weeks. Hope this helps, I'll be happy to answer any other questions Traci
  15. Hey all Imdels---Zurelimaka show somewhere around 45 minutes, not longer....was just added onto the rest of our bill so you can use a credit card. I'll post some pics as soon as I get them....there is some really cool ones out there We used our ipod for first dance, father/daughter, mother son. We only played 3 songs total, having everyone join in on the last. Worked out perfect. As nbro stated, a DJ will be a waste if you have a large group unless they pick up the dinner pace. They do not play until after dinner. The other option would be to start your reception earlier. I'm certain our dinner was not complete until around 9:30 and that was with the cake being served during the show. We tried to incorporate 1/2 hour of Jamaican dance lessons in between courses....it was fun while it lasted...once again, time was an issue so we cut it a bit short. There is a band that plays upstairs from the blue lagoon until 11:00-11:30p with plenty of room for dancing if you do get done early with the reception Petals..........that really sucks about the lobster....I would be pissed...Hope they offered you something comparable...I won't comment any further As for set up, we did like a square with a table in the middle. So head table with our backs to ocean, 1 table on each side, 2 tables along the back, and 1 table in the center (we placed our parents here)...so each guest table had 10-12 persons. Upgrades...We actually booked the honeymoon suites because of their limited availability and the fact I am only doing this once! I would not count on an upgrade to these, in fact Kevin's brother booked and paid for suite in advance and they stated there were none available.....after a few hours they miraculously came up with one. The jr suites are easy to upgrade to a 1 BR suite. We stayed in honeymoon villa 33........if you want sunset, you got the best view in the resort! It was beautiful! The 1 br suites actually have more space, but the hot tub is about double the size in the HM suites and the outdoor shower was actually nice FYI....Look at your marriage certificate before you leave the resort closely as we didn't........Low and behold we found a significant error when we returned....Still waiting to hear from Jascynthia?! Traci
  16. Hey all future GP Brides!!! I am officially a MRS!!!!!!!!!!! We are back and had an absolutely beautiful wedding and reception. I am not going to write much now until I get some pics from photographer (brought our own), family, and friends. Please feel free to email any questions. Jascynthia did a very nice job. I can clearly understand why she does not respond promptly to emails. They had 2-3 weddings everyday we were there(8 nights)! Good news though, they have hired an additional assistant who will just be answering emails starting soon!(hopefully not Jamaican time) Few quick words: 1. If you are planning a sunset wedding at 5pm, it is not quite sunset. We were fortunate though b/c the marriage officiant was in a car accident on the way(unfortunate) and had to go to the ER. So our wedding was delayed 45min-1hour while they got a replacement officiant named Vincent....he was the best...very enlightening! And it was sunset by that time!!!! 2. If you are getting hitched on the beach as we did, the sun actually sets on the opposite side of the honeymoon villas so it is not very visible in the direct background. I'm pretty certain if you choose the gazebo overlooking sunset cove, it would be a perfect view. 3. Steel drum band was awesome! However, they ONLY ACCEPT CASH! There is an ATM on site and we do not think there was a fee per say from Jamaica, but our bank charged us $15. 4. For those of you with a large group of guests....we had 59....be prepared to be very busy and not be as relaxed as you want to. Don't get me wrong, we were extremely appreciative of everyone making the trip, however, we literally could not walk anywhere more than a few minutes without running into someone from our group. It was impossible to spend time with everyone and found it difficult to relax ourselves. In fact, we were exhausted!!! I highly recommend leaving the resort after the wedding and staying elsewhere or make sure your guests are leaving the next day!!! But we were planning on doing a honeymoon later so we are sticking to it! 5. Food was great...although filet was more like a ribeye....lobster out of this world!! Slow service though so plan on a few hours, but it gave us time talk to everyone individually.Cake yummy!!!!!!! 6. Entertainment....we chose the Zurelimaka show instead of the DJ.....Let me just say, it was a hit! Everyone enjoyed it including the GP staff!!! We were the first couple to use them and we highly recommend it. Just unbelievable!!!!!!!! We used our ipod for dinner music and it was just fine.....remember people are going to be talking and enjoying themselves so the focus will not be on the music at that point....We had some rowdy guests but it was easy to hear the music. 7. Flowers.......Ours included in package......Cost $125 for 3 extra bouquets....one for our single bridesmaid and one for each of our mothers 8.Zuzelh....price pp depends on which package you choose (tropical, romance, Caribbean). 1st 8 guests(including bride/groom) included in package price, others additional cost Gotta run, will post some pics soon
  17. NO FREE UPGRADES!!!!!!!!!!!! I have asked more than one person at the GP and my TA who interacts with them frequently......You would think they would do something for bringing business to them! I decided not to bring centerpieces and leave the decor up to the resort......and I refuse to pay the exuberant amount charged by the flower people. I figured what will be, will be. I leave on Monday, wed on Sat, be back tues may 5th. Not sure if we are taking the laptop, but I will definitely post other details when we return if we don't. Panda....our wedding scheduled for sunset as well, but I was told the absolute latest time was 5:30, but they really want to stick to 5pm so we will see how it goes As for the photographer, I am still bringing my own....it is my understanding you may as long as the photographer is not from a Jamaica location. How about the Hijacker?
  18. Panda, Posiedon is an outdoor restaraunt with a roof, not sure if you knew that, but is cozy and quaint overlooking one of the beaches(can't remember the name, but the furthest one on the LH side) Snow Angels Did you bring your own centerpieces? I wasn't going to take any mostly due to size. I thought they would decorate the tables without an additional charge unless we opted for the florist which has exorberant pricing. Hope you are having a blast!
  19. Galiagirl Reserved the same. 58 of us!! It is private! They do NOT serve dinner there in the evening. That's why we are paying the $300 for extra staff and service! My wedding is in 2 weeks so I'll post if it is something different.
  20. Petals We have one vegetarian and not sure what she will receive. Children under 12 have same menu choices as adults......however, they are accommodating one picky child with a special request not on our menu. They seem a little flexible. I can't believe how time is flying by! We leave in 11 days! UGH!!!!!!!!! Time for a drink I'm finally getting a bit nervous! Anybody have a list of "Must Haves" meaning absolute necessities we must not forget to take to Jamaica for the wedding? I feel like I'm forgetting something important, but it is Jamaica so I guess we will just wing it! Snow Angels....CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. The communication is nonexistent so we all must put our "no worries" attitude forward and keep updating each other. I did find out if you are requesting special menus such as filet and lobster for the Caribbean package......you must let them know the final count 1 month in advance! I leave in 20 days and haven't received any type of verification. I'm understanding you meet with Jascynthia when you arrive to discuss flowers, cake, etc.....takes an hour Anyone got info on group tours? Ziplining, Dunns River, etc? Casino open finally No tables though
  22. IMDELS, I would get the required info and deposit to her ASAP. This is indeed the only way you are confirmed as I was told. Also, I would not send by standard mail even with delivery confirmation and tracking. I sent mine back in JULY and they have yet to receive it! FAX if you can. Jascynthia was told the casino should open by the end of the month, although I have heard the same thing about the past several months As for the children under 12, they choose from the same menu options. She said they would accommodate any children that this would not be feasible.
  23. Panda, There will be plenty of room at the Poisedon. It overlooks sunset beach/cove in a secluded environment. It is a covered outdoor dining area with a nice view, although the view will also include trees. When we did a site visit the gazebo wasn't there, however the area and view is absolutely stunning! In fact, we considered it for a moment even though we always said we would wed on the beach! ANYONE, I know children under 12 are free when it comes to the extra $pp fee. Does anyone know if they require these children to have a separate "children's menu" or can they order the entrees we request? Of course, I just thought about it today as I am mailing the invites. By the way, if you choose the Caribbean package with different entree choices, they require a count a month ahead of time! Did we ever find out if the microphone and speakers were included?
  24. Thanks for the update Hilaryerin, I was getting a bit concerned especially when since I still haven't gotten a reply from Jascynthia.
  25. Congratulations Mrs. Storms. So you glad you had a beautiful time!
