PSA: Why Members Get Banned

"~~ If you choose to badger the administration about the rules and what you think they should be, you may be banned."

This always, always bugged me. I used to run a music forum awhile back that was pretty popular and sucked up a lot of my money. Nothing bugged me more than when people complained about my "rules." Bottom line is... Tammy is the one who pays for this upkeep of this forum and she can have whatever rules she wants. From experience I know it's a lot of $$$, if you hate the rules and want to change things the solution is simple, put your money where your mouth is, open your own forum and make your own rules.

Not trying to give you any competition Tammy, but I just think people don't fully realize how much of a drain (even though it can be fun in a way) running a message board can be sometimes and the amount of money it takes to keep it running, especially one that gets this much traffic.

i also have to re-iterate that you may not like the rules or think they are fair BUT if you chose to not follow them, DO NOT be surprised if you are banned.

I don't care why you didn't follow them. We have a bunch of great vendors tht do follow the rules and it is not fair to them if we ignore the rule breakers.

Thank you ladies, firstly for all your hard work and secondly, for ensuring that we are always up to speed.

Perhaps, when the decision is made to ban a specific vendor or member we could post this somewhere. Personally, I went insane trying to find a thread from a specific vendor...who turns out was recently banned (LisaMarkPhotography). Just a thought...

Thank you again ladies! I cannot express my gratitude to the forum enough (especially being a DT bride) I full endorse a "MOD APPRECIATION DAY"

Just an FYI, when a member gets banned, their posts remain on the forum unless there is some negative content. So you should usually be able to find any threads started by that vendor/member. However, I know that a few threads specifically were removed due to the drama that was contained in them. So normally a search can still be performed for threads even after someone is banned.

Also, the reasons for banning, or the fact that someone is banned at all, isn't public information. The only exception is sometimes when a vendor is banned.

I would also like to mention that when Tammy & the mods feel you deserve to know about a banning, we post. When it is really none of anyone’s business why a person gets banned, we don’t post any explanation, and we typically won’t answer questions about it either. But rest assured that every member (bride or vendor) who gets banned – there is a chain of evidence, so to speak, of their bad behavior leading up to the ban. Nobody ever gets banned “just because.” We don’t want any of you ladies thinking you will get banned for voicing any opinion, but often when it comes to banning, we just don’t air the dirty laundry. I know that sometimes that looks one sided, however, it’s in the best interest of the forum to not create any drama where it’s not necessary. If we don’t post why someone was recently banned, you can assume that it’s not your business to ask and it was done to keep the forum running smoothly because that person was breaking rules, harassing the admins or creating havoc in some way.

On a day to day basis, we deal with lots of vendors either breaking rules or spamming. This is something you as a regular member usually never witness, and so of course you don’t know the backstory when someone gets their first warning & what they did/said after the warning that may have gotten them banned.

Of course, I want to also address the fact that some of you keep in contact with banned vendors or members after they are no longer welcome here – let me just say that those who are banned know exactly why, and when they tell you that they were banned for “no reason” or that they “never got a warning,” that is an outright lie. Some of those people choose to write facebook notes or make facebook groups and things like that to “let everyone know why they were banned.” I have to tell you, I’ve read several of the notes that banned members have written both in the past and recently, and they completely twist the facts so people feel sorry for them. Don’t feel sorry for them. They knowingly & willingly broke forum rules which led to their priveleges being revoked. We run a tight ship with vendors so that you DON’T get spammed, solicited, etc. etc. We do this for YOU – to make this a safe & productive place for all members. When there are people who disrupt the community by breaking rules, plain & simple, they will be removed.

Also as Tammy stated above, please remember the following:

I also wanted to add that any attitude or snarky behavior to the mods or admins will not be tolerated.

this is a free forum. we volunteer our time to make the forum run smoothly and i am sure the way it is moderated is why this forum is so great. the LAST thing we need are pm's, posts from members being snarky. Especially about things they do not fully understand.

Good point, Maura. This happens quite often and it is inconsiderate of a banned member to put an active member in the position of having to choose sides or play one against the other. Don't fall victim to their manipulation of the facts and your feelings. They broke the rules and got banned. Period.

Thanks girls.

For me personally, this was a great tool for planning my wedding and an added perk was the building of relationships with the fellow members- which is why I still hang around. :) But seriously, I don't even understand why members get involved in all the drama- what's the point? I'm sure everyone has bigger fish to fry in their normal lives. Be courteous, chat it up, plan to your heart's content and you will see no troubles.

Vendors are here to build their business- first and foremost, just as we are here to plan our weddings. Don't get those roles confused. If someone messes up and got in trouble, they more than likely deserved it and broke rules. I'm sorry you Mods even need to explain this. If everyone went about their business and did what they needed to do, then we wouldn't have to have PSA's to explain why people who broke rules got what was coming to 'em.

But alas, you have to sad.gif so thanks for keeping our forum clean and happy. Woohoo to Mod day.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
