Hi Gail. I think everyone goes through the same thing. I would suggest finding a good travel agent and talking to them about your wedding and they can suggest places. I've been to a couple resorts in the area and we picked one I have never been to for our wedding. We wanted to keep costs down but still have the option of a nicer resort. We picked the Barcelo because it had a couple resorts in one. It's funny, we made that decision to cut down with costs but so far about 30 people have booked and they have all booked at the luxury resort so I guess in the end I maybe shouldn't have worried about it as much as I did. There are some great travel agents on here who can help you!

Choosing the resort is definitely the hardest thing that we had to do so far. Our priorities for choosing a resort were pretty much the same things that you listed. We chose the Iberostar, mainly because it offers several resorts in one to meet different peoples price needs and also because they do only one wedding per day (2 things that were important to me).

We staretd by spending a lot of time just looking through books/reviews and then we narrowed it down to our top 5 favourite resorts. From there we found ourselves a good travel agent and got info and pricing from her. I would recommend narrowing it down to a few resorts that you really like and then get a TA to find pricing, etc. Good luck!

Hi Gail,

Have you tried tripadvisor? The site has all kinds of first-hand reviews on resorts, and provides so much helpful information! You can also search the resort reviews for only those reviews by brides and guests at weddings, which I found really, really helpful when I was trying to make a decision.

Good luck with whatever you choose! :)

I ended up at the Grand Palladium Resorts. The only thing that it doesn't quite meet on your list is that its 15 minutes away from Playa, and the nightclub on site is not supposed to be that great. However, it meets a lot of your other requirements- I was also trying to keep costs low for my guests, the resort has several gorgeous pools, and there is 1.5 miles of private beach.

I would definitely look at trip advisor reviews- they can be useful in the decision making process. Good luck!

I was looking for exactly the same things you are! We just got married at the Hilton last week and it was perfect!

Thanks for all your input, you guys are great. I loved cancun, we have vacationed there the past 3 years with friends so wanted something diff for wedding. Narrowed bet Palladium/ iberostar tucan or del mar. So any insight into those/contrasts/pros/cons/ that would be great.feedback.giffeedback.gif

The best way to start off is check with a travel agency. They can give you a few resort recommendations based on your budget and interests. Check out Iberostar Paraiso Lindo, Dreams, and RIU Yucatan. They are kid friendly. I believe Iberostar has more things to do for children. RIU Yucatan is close by to 5th Ave (Playa Del Carmen) for night life and shopping. Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
