Seriously I only have my Mom, sister and my MoH coming. FI only has immediate family coming and no friends. Im past the angry, sad stage and moved on to the "Im partying in Jamaica with my new husband for 2 weeks and dont care who's coming with me" stage.
Seriously, this is the way to be Kayte totally hit the nail on the head .... I turned all my heartache and headaches of this mess just into this ... WHO THE F CARES NOW!! I'M GONNA BE WITH MY HUBBY!! I went orig when we started booking from 36 people... and they all had booked flight/rooms... but because of whatever reasons they had ... I ended up with 13 people including Jay and I. In the end it matters only who comes because they are the ones that truely care about you and made it a point to be there on your special day... even with the economy... they wouldn't miss it for the world!!!

I was going to second this... when we first said we were going to have a DW, everyone was kind of shocked. Then they all started saying they couldn't come. My own mother even said on the phoen that it wasn't like she had to be there. WFT!?
Within a few months, most of the immediate family had come around, but FI's brother's wife and kid aren't coming and FI's grandmother backed out a few months ago. My 2 sisters were gung-ho from Day 1. My mom got excited soon too. My dad literally just booked yesterday and the wedding is in 13 days... smile41.gif

I went through the same thing in the fall: thinking that we sucked, it made me feel like a big fat loser that no one would care enough to come to our wedding. Starting in the summer, about 6 months before FI had a pair of friends book their family in on a whim. Then about one month ago (so like 6 weeks befoer our wedding), FI organized 3 of my friends to come down by basically bribing them... (he's helping pay for one couple). Now in the past 3 weeks, we have 3 more potentials. We're up to about 18.

My point is, people are weird and will annoy you, disappoint you, and surprise you. Once you get past the stage of being really depressed that no one is coming but your immediate family, maybe more people will book. If they don't, you'll still have a fabulous time. Keep your eyes on the prize!!!

I am so in a similar situation! We have sent an email with deposit info, etc, and have only had ONE couple put one down so far! I keep trying to remind myself that it is about FI and I, and no one else, and that it doesn't even matter if anyone else comes...but it is definitely hard. I'm sure whatever happens, your wedding will be beautiful! xo

  • 2 weeks later...

I have the same concerns. Everyone says they're coming but you never know until the deposits are sent in. We originally booked 15 rooms at the resort but I was able to call and decrease our reservation to 10 rooms before any penalties were charged. I think I can book the 10 with bridal party and family and everyone else will have to hope that rooms are still available. Incentive for them to book ASAP I guess.

I am glad to hear people have the same concerns. We have had many back out, most we expected wouldnt make it, but some we did expect would are now backing out. I am getting over the mad, sad stage and moving into the "good, the less the more intimate" Which is really the reason we were having a DW instead of one at home anyway!

I totally agree with everyone. My fiance keeps telling me that it doesn't matter that everyone shows up, as long as it's us and our immediate family we will have a good time.

Question for you ladies:

Any of you having a party back home when you return? We keep going back and forth on it. If it's worth it. We know not a lot of people will be able to go to Mexico, so we figure why not do it? That way people won't feel left out and also would be nice to celebrate w/ friends/family that weren't able to make it.

What do you guys think?

We too are slightly stressed about people forsurely coming to our June 2009 DW wedding...right now we have 23 people (and us) who have put down their deposits ($250), but really that doesn't mean they won't cancel last minute before final payment!! I'm just crossing my fingers that they pull through!! Also, our travel agent has a deal where if we have 26 people we get one free trip....so we really want ONE more person to sign up so we can get that deal!

We are having a Wedding Reception and Dance back home 2 weeks after come back from Mexico. We are inviting EVERYONE, all the extended family, highschool friends, college friends, work friends, etc..... That way everyone feels included. Our plan is to have a slideshow of our wedding in Mexico so its like they were there, i'll wear my dress again, he'll wear his suit ...the whole deal!! I think it will be fun to have 2 weddings!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
